Hi, I have a customer running 3.2 of ALL-IN-1 on a VAX and an Alpha. Both systems are not clustered together. The VAX has IOS 3.2 and the Alpha has 3.2 Client Services. There are two SYSUAF's on each system. Both files point to the same VMS directories. Customer did mention having a disk pool. There are also different shared disks and different ALL-IN-1 environments on both system. There are about 1500-200 users. Customer states the VAX has been overloaded. They have run out of channel count. He would like to have his users access ALL-IN-1 on the Alpha. Customer did try and copy profile.dat and partition.dat to the Alpha. After profile.dat was copied, the profiles could be seen. Access to ALL-IN-1 on the Alpha will be from TeamLinks. There should be no interactive login access to the Alpha. After partition.dat was copied, customer stated he could only see the server information from the VAX. From TeamLinks, user's drawers were not found. My questions are: 1. Is this configuration supported/unsupported? 2. Is there a way to have the user's ALL-IN-1 environment set up on the Alpha? 3. Should these systems be clustered together? What I will ask the customer is does he intend to keep the VAX and have some load balancing or does he just want the Alpha and get rid of the VAX. Thanks, Melinda CSC/AT

Spoke to customer and he does want to remove the VAX. He wants his users to log in from TeamLinks to the Alpha. He did install ALL-IN-1 Client Services on the Alpha. Suggested he copy the following files from the VAX to the Alpha: pending.dat profile.dat the SDAF's partition.dat sm_sdaf_master sm_shared_dir_master the shared directories Melinda

If you have 2 systems with 2 different ALL-IN-1 environments, why would you be copying ALL-IN-1 data files from one system to another? This means trying to merge data files. Transfer user is the tool you want. Dave Zaniewski

RE .0 <<<< Access to ALL-IN-1 on the Alpha will be from TeamLinks. There <<<< should be no interactive login access to the Alpha. You are completely missing the point about how TeamLinks works. As far as the file cabinet, SYSUAF (and almost everything!) is concerned, it's irreleveant whether they are using the VT or TeamLinks, it's exactly the same account and files that are being accessed. Consequently, this *WILL NOT WORK* and is *COMPLETELY NOT SUPPORTED* RE .1 <<<< Spoke to customer and he does want to remove the VAX Oh good, that simplifies things. Re .2 <<<< If you have 2 systems with 2 different ALL-IN-1 environments, why <<<< would you be copying ALL-IN-1 data files Absolutely! <<<< Transfer user is the tool you want. .0 said that there were 1500-200 users. If this was supposed to be 1500-2000 users, then XferUser will take a very long time. A merge is what you want, but this needs to be done by an expert. |
