2600.1 | Is this the DDS lookup problem? | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Wed Apr 02 1997 15:37 | 3 |
| Are they using DDS? This may be the problem that we've recently patched
where looking up the DDS Area Route fails. Look for notes by Elin about
this.

| Can you be more specific about the Notes by Elin, I have had a look and
did not see anything which was pertinant. Have I missed something ?
(Yes they are using DDS).

Ivan,
The problem was thought to be the fact that a number of AIDA servers
were being started simultaneously, and all of them were (at about the
same time) invoking the ALL-IN-1 image to determine the value of
the DDS area route (via a symbol). The fix in V3.2 was to change the
AIDA Startup procedures, and obtain this value from an OA$
logical instead. This of course also speeded up the overall AIDA
startup somewhat.
There wasn't an official ICF for this, only *possibly* a paper patch
supplied to the customer. I'm afraid that's all the details I have...
-Kevin.

| I thought I remembered reading about the problem that Kevin has now
described in this conference, but clearly I was dreaming! You'd better
ask Elin directly if the fix worked for them.
The change was to remove the code in SM_AIDA_START_SERVER.COM that ran
ALL-IN-1 to get the OA$DDS_AREA_ROUTE special symbol, and instead set
the DCL symbol DDS_AREA_ROUTE from an F$TRNLNM of OA$MTI_AREA.
