ALL-IN-1 V3.1 on an AlphaServer 2100, OpenVMS V6.2 I have a customer that asks if there is anyway to relocate the image OA$WPL_ALL_TV.EXE from SYS$SHARE to another disk ? When his users log in (about 1,000 of them, all at 7:30 AM) the system disk is getting hammered and the main hot-file is this image. The system disk has a queue of nearly 100 (!!) on it until the log-in activity dies down. The image appears installed correctly but is still being read from the system disk. He has now set up an EXEC/SYSTEM logical that is called OA$WPL_ALL_TV which points to another disk location. This works fine and has found no problems in doing this. However he would just like to check if this is a supported way of achieving this, if not why not and how else can he achieve it? I did read him the article 2084 in this conference as well, Any feedback, Regards, Richard Simpson.

Is the file $INSTALLed /OPEN/HEADER ? If so, I agree it's odd that it's still taking all those I/Os. Perhaps you should consult an OpenVMS heavy - maybe you are one :-) I think that the logical is, indeed, a supported method of redirecting the image activator's attentions to an alternative location. I'm fairly sure that we won't be accessing the file directly, only the system will be doing so. | |||||

Upgrading to ALL-IN-1 v3.2 will help spread the timing out for this file. Dave Zaniewski |
