2512.0. "Qualified children. Eh?" by GIDDAY::JOYCE (Andy Joyce - Digital CSC Sydney) Fri Feb 07 1997 09:51

    ALL-IN-1 V3.2

Does anyone have any idea what the following error message is all
    about?

"No more qualified children of this card"

This message appeared today as a couple of ALL-IN-1 users finished a
WPS-PLUS edit session. As far as we can tell all changes were saved
and no other problems have been reported.

We have not seen this message before but, maybe significantly, last
night we had to restore the entire ALL-IN-1 system (all disks) from
backup due to a disk hardware failure.

    Thanks,

2512.1File Cab ErrorNETRIX::"Karl [email protected]"Karl StrongFri Feb 07 1997 10:4210
Check your file cabinets. Does it keep happening ?

Its a FCS Error Code. I'm guessing, but was your restore from a backup that
was taken while the File Cab was running ?

Regards,
Karl.

Very likely. With the full backup taking over 8 hours the customer
refuses to shutdown ALL-IN-1 while it is happening (it's a 24x7
    	organisation).

So, what does this error actually mean?

2512.3Doesn't help, but....IOSG::DUTTNigel DuttFri Feb 07 1997 12:316
You don't really want to know this, but - the file cab server has a
generic, implementation independent view of the file store and it
defines an internal interface to the actual store. This interface is
called the "card storage interface", and refers to individual entries
as cards. The generic hierarchy is defined in terms of parents and
    children.

Hmmm. What puzzles me is why the FCS is getting involved when a
character-cell user is editing a WPS+ doc. I suppose, if the doc is
in a non-MAIN drawer, the error could be at the point that it is being
    replaced (and unreserved)?

That's right. Reserve and unreserve are the two operations that IOS
doesn't have code for, so it has to use FCS. However if it has a
problem with FCS then it normally goes ahead with the edit anyway, as
    .0 found.

Okay... so I guess the next question is... what do I do about these
errors or do I forget about them as they seem to be self-repairing?

    Thanks,
    Andy
