2508.0. "How to stop ALL-IN-1 from attempting to use IP port" by ALFSS2::BEKELE_D (When indoubt THINK!) Wed Feb 05 1997 22:55

    Greetings!

Customer has ALL-IN-1 V3.0a with FC configured to use *only* DECnet.
Since he installed TCPware V5.1, ALL-IN-1 tries to talk to the
FC server via TCP/IP first. In the process it gets in "LEF" state
for a full minute while a pending IO to a BG device times out then
it uses DECnet (Customer does not want FC to be configured to use
    TCP/IP).

Is the existence of UCX$DEVICE sufficient for ALL-IN-1 to attempt
to connect via TCP/IP? If that is not the case what else can I suggest
other than deassign the logical so that ALL-IN-1 will stop its attempt
    to use TCP/IP?

    Thanks!

IF they don't want us to use TCP/IP to connect to the FCS, then isn't
it enough to not put a TCP/IP port in the server configuration file? (SM
    MSS MFS E)

During installation, I fill these fields in if UCX is installed,
although I thought I asked first!!

    Dan,

I'm somewhat confused by this, as ALL-IN-1 VT never uses TCP/IP as the
transport to connect to the FCS, this is always done via DECnet.

But I agree with GAP, if your customer doesn't want the server to run
over IP then just set the port to "0" and restart the server.

Customer assured me that this is how it is currently configured and the
source of my own confusion as well!. Customer also stated that only
one node in a cluster behaves in the manner discribed eventhough it
is said to be configured the same way as the other nodes. I asked to
get access to his system to see it with my own eyes but...in desperation
I suggested that he delete the config record and recreate it. He was
not impressed by that suggestion either. I am in a quandary on this
    one!

    Dan,

    Well, the customer's always right ! :-)

But really, there are no VT->FCS connections done over IP, unless
they're written their own app which I very much doubt. TeamLinks on the
other hand will of course do connections over IP, but not to manage the
server as there's no GUI for that...yet.

Well, let me know if any more comes of this,

    Kevin.

These records are per node, so the fact that it is different on one
node seems to support the previous replies. Deleting and readding the
record should only take a few minutes - less than the time it takes to
call you. Perhaps there is something in the record that looks ok but
    is confusing the startup.
