2484.0. "File protection on Share Area" by STKHLM::LUNDSTEDT () Fri Jan 24 1997 15:13

    Hello,

    My customer has a problems with their share areas where the regular
    mails are set as

    System:RWED, Owner:RWED, Group:, World:

    but all mails send by Teamlinks have file protection

    System:RWED, Owner:RWED, Group:, World:RWE

    The default is System:RWED, Owner:RWED, Group:, World:

    He has tested to create a file in a share and it gets
    System:RWED, Owner:RWED, Group:, World:

    We have checked the SDAF and they are correct.
    OA$DAF_A.DAT     (RWED,RWED,,)

    ALL-IN-1 3.1 (Swedish)
    VMS 5.5-2

    What is setting the file protection on his Teamlinks files??

    Regards,

    Anna

    Anna,

    Messages from TeamLinks are placed in the shared area by the File
    Cabinet Server. The easiest way to determine this is whether the
    filenames in the shared area start with a Z (ALL-IN-1 generated)
    or I (FCS generated).

    Back in the midsts of time I remember a bug where the FCS would adopt
    the default protection mask of the process that starts it up. So,
    perhaps the first thing to check is the default protection mask for the
    ALLIN1 and SYSTEM accounts, plus any other accounts that your customer
    might have created in order to start the FCS. I thought we fixed this
    problem at some point, probably in V3.2 although I haven't checked
    yet.

    If that doesn't show up anything, let me know and we'll take it
    further... Perhaps the next thing to do would be to stop and start the
    server from what appears to be a valid account, possibly by running
    A1V31START from the system account...

    -Kevin.

2484.2protection looks OKSTKHLM::HEGNELIUSMon Jan 27 1997 15:1620
    Hallo this is Eva taking over the case since Anna is on education
    this week.

    Talked to the customer today and found out that the protection for
    SYSTEM and ALL-IN-1 is RWED,RWED,RE and it is ALL-IN-1 who runs
    the file cabinet server.

    It is only messages created from Teamlinks who gets the weard
    protection being RWED,RWED,RE,RWE. This started to happen after
    they created a new share area. We have looked at the protection
    on the share directories but there everything looks OK.

    I will ask them to restart as you said and see if that helps.
    Ill tell you the result tomorrow.

    Can you think of anything during the creation of new share directories
    that could change the protection like this?

    Regards
    Eva Hegnelius
2484.3restart did the trick.STKHLM::HEGNELIUSThu Jan 30 1997 09:535
    After a complete restart of everything it seems to work.

    Thanks for your attention.
