2474.4 | OA$MTI_AREA | ICS::BONVALLAT | | Mon Jan 27 1997 20:51 | 4 |
| The OA$MTI_AREA logical is defined systemwide as
"A1 at NEMAIL at NQO". That seems to be the same format
as on the other CCS managed clusters.

2474.6 | Can CCS look at the gateway logs? | ZUR01::ASHG | Grahame Ash @RLE | Tue Jan 28 1997 11:36 | 9 |
| (Our system uses the AT format, and my return address includes the area term)
Isn't this something CCS should be fixing? (You didn't say if you were in
CCS!). It would be handy if someone with access to the Gateway could see the
addresses as they are translated there.
It certainly doesn't seem to be anything to do with ALL-IN-1.

2474.7 | CCS can change the logical if it is a solution | SHRMSG::HOWARD | Ben | Mon Feb 03 1997 21:31 | 16 |
| Does AT still work or not? I think whatever value is in the logical
will be in the return address, but will it get back to the user?
I don't think CCS is paying much attention to VMS these days since it
is "going away". Although we did turn on SMTP a few months ago. You
should log a call if you somebody can verify that it is a problem. I
guess we could try to get MTS support to send something out requesting
that this be changed, but people have a way of ignoring their memos.

Anybody can look at the entries in MR if they know how. Not sure if
that's what you mean, Grahame. The logs are a different story.

2474.8 | I wonder if the Originator has reported it? | ZUR01::ASHG | Grahame Ash @RLE | Tue Feb 04 1997 11:29 | 14 |
| Hi Ben,
What I was trying to say was:
- if " AT " didn't work, I don't believe MTS-only mail would function. So I
don't think it's important
- the problem would be easier to identify if we could see exactly how the
gateway mapped the names. I imagine a logfile will be created which shows
this, and I also imagine that only CCS has access to these files.
All pure guesswork, as always!

2474.9 | | MAIL2::KMAHER | Un clavo saca otro clavo | Fri Feb 14 1997 15:29 | 14 |
| I believe that PMDF by innosoft is the gateway in use. PMDF routes
incomming mail by applying rules to the domain name of the address. It
also includes a facility for foward and reverse mapping of usernames.
For example it equates
real address alias
[email protected] [email protected]
The address "reverse alias" is substituted for the "real address" as the
message passes through the gateway. My guess would be that this user's
name is not in the reverse mapping database. This is possible if he
has a relatively common name. eg: john.smith, and the database is
configured to reject duplicates.
