And a few months later ...

I am in technical support, and once in a blue moon I get a customer who asks
"ALL-IN-1/TeamLinks or Exchange?" Most have already decided "Exhange or bust!".
Why should any IS manager invest on a product that Digital's upper management
is not betting their business on any longer?

Last week, we - the US Technical Support Organization - have received orders
from above to migrate to Exchange. All the sales reps have already received
their orders, and most started moving over.

As much as Signe in her previous reply wants to be positive about the quality
of our products - which I completely agree on -, there is no way, to any more
convince customers not to go to Exchange.

Besides folks venting out in this conference, I do not see anywhere else in
Digital a fair comparison of ALL-IN-1 and Exchange. Nobody makes that big of a
deal of Exchange's incapabilities, that it cannot justify selling AS 4100's
until next December, and that it just is not Enterprise quality.

It simply is not enough to talk to my customers about the solid capabilities of
ALL-IN-1/TeamLinks vs a junior mail system which can support 500 users per
server now, instead of the 200 that its PC based predecessors did. Digital did
such a grand job internally as well externally marketing Exchange, that nobody
(except the few readers of this conference) anymore believes in the future of
ALL-IN-1/TeamLinks. How come we never succeded to market our own software as
well or received any public endorsements from senior Digital VPs, that's
another discussion.

I am helping out the local SI organization next week. They and Microsoft
invited ALL the local installed base ALL-IN-1 customers to attend a 1/2 day
Exchange symposium. Agenda includes Digital's internal experience with the
migration, and demo tools such Exchange-to-1 to prove once more: Why bother
with TeamLinks/MailWorks or ALL-IN-1! Messaging Practices consultants are full
force recommending Exchange, and pretty much see TeamLinks and ALL-IN-1 as
dead.

So much for the soap box. But I would appreciate an update on the future of
Office Server and TeamLinks, and whether we will actively market it.

Also, My question is, who from Digital is funding the engineering efforts for
Office Server and TeamLinks? And realistically, for how long will they fund
it?
