My sister had the following dream last week and is curious about what the meening of it is. Any interpertations? My husband and I were in a truck going through a subdivision and there was a garage sale ahead of us. I did not want to go but my husband insisted and stopped because there was something there that he wanted to see or was looking for. There was several long tables full of books and as I was looking through them I noticed a paperback book with a yellow cover. It was fairly thick and the size of a regular hard cover book. When I picked it up I noticed that the title of the book was "Letters by Hahn" (maiden name). It was written in script. I opened the book and started looking through it. There were many letters in it and many variations of the spelling of Hahn. Half way through the book I saw my Grandmothers house and the letter was signed by Donald Hahn (my Grandfather). I was floored at seeing this and started reading the letter. The pages inside the book were parchment and seemed very fragile. I do not recal what the letter said but throughout the letter were several mentions of the "confederacy and my parents". The writings of this letter was in script with lots of swirls and curls. (This would not be consistent of my Grandfathers time frame but more of the confederacy time). As I was reading this letter all of a sudden I was back in time to when my father was a small boy. I was the same size as my father and he was walking down the driveway towards me and asked, "Do you want to play with me?". I am amazed because although I am his size I am the same mentality as I am now. I started thinking in my dream that he is my own Dad and that he is asking me to play with him! I play with him. He wants to build a fort and play around it all of which we both know for some reason it would get us into trouble. Being kids, we didn't care. In the dream, my father and I are having fun and all the time that we are playing, I keep thinking that I am seeing my Dad as a kid and that I am playing with him. His clothers are from the 1930's as well as mine. He is not aware of who I am but I know who he was. I was just another kid to him. My Grandmother starts walking down the driveway and she looks as she looks today (age wise). There is no recognition that my father did not realize that she did not look as she should had at that time. All of a sudden, my father was out of the picture and I was talking to my Grandmother as adults. I do not remember our conversation. Suddenly, I am back at the garage sale and it was as if time had stood still and the other people that were there did not notice that I was gone or had returned. My husband also didn't notice that I was gone. In the dream I am aware of what had happened and I am standing to see if anyone had seen my disappear. No one had. I was very much in shock about what had happened. When I woke up, I felt like I was at the garage sale and had just returned after playing with my father until I noticed it was just a dream. Background info: Our father was strict and stern. Not much attention was paid to us in child activities. We were well provided for though. My sister does not like color yellor or garage sales. She was currently looking for a job at the time of this dream. There was no emotional stress in her family at this time. Any interpertations?

Offhand, I'd say that your sister has some repressed anger about a lack of a playfullness your dad denied his relationship with her. Although he may have been just as stiff and distant with you, your sister may have placed you in the dream, playing with him, as some jealousy she harbors as if you might have been treated gentler by him than she. Are you the younger? Is she older? Did he mellow between children? Try confronting that issue is you feel comfortable with your present relationship with your sister. the yard sale and the yellow book and confederacy angles may point to some anger on her part that your family's history may have been disposed of arbitrarily without her consent. Was there a general estate sale or a complete cleaning out of a deceased family member's house that entailed the loss of family heirlooms or records? The yard sale may represent the trivializing and devaluing, by a family member, of items that your sister would have cherished, if given the chance to keep them. I have no thoughts on yellow, other than the connatation of "Tainted", "aged", or weathered, or perhaps even "cowardly"? BillM

Thanks for your reply. You have some good insight. I should clarify, though, that the dream I wrote is in her words. It was my sister who was playing with our father. Does this put a different twist on your interpertation? Thanks!

Only that the sibling rivalry stuff is conveniently tossed out the old Id window. The play sequence might then stand for her yearning to have played with him, but he never offered. Did family items get lost in the liqudation of a household? BillM

The one thing that comes to me to add, is that yellow is the color of the solar plexus chakra - that's in the midcenter between the second chakra (reproductive organs - color orange) and heart chakra (color green). Cindy

OK, now lets see what anyone can make out of this. In my dreams the last few weeks has been a reoccuring phenomenon. I will be at the ending of a dream sequence and find myself in a large open space, usually outside in a yard but once in a large cavernous auditorium. This is commonly after a running scene from a house where most of the past dream sequence has taken place. Suddenly, I find myself grabbing a rope?, vine, branch? (It isn't clear in the dream) and I start swinging and soaring throughout the air, similar to the feeling of a flying sequence in other dreams, but the difference here is that each oscillation is higher, faster and more scary but also more turbulent and dangerous! I find myself capable of bouncing off building walls etc. When they started I'd be able to sense that this was a dream and stop the dream by partially awakening. Now, when I sense this, I try to stay "in the dream". Last night, this occured and I stayed with it until I was flung so far and fast at the end that I was literally tossed out of the dream! As the dream ended, I awoke in bed, but had my entire body jump and contort as I felt like I was about to fall into an abyss. We have a new boxspring and mattress that's about 6" wider than our old set and about 2" higher, but that's the only sleeping difference of late and I'm no where near the edge of the "bed abyss" when I awake. Also, mostly the dreams are about myself with past family members or friends from the past. Yes, as a child we had a big tree swing. Yes, I used go high up in it. Yes, we even used to jump from it into a huge pile of autumn leaves! So, the sensory feelings for the starts of these sequences are familiar to my brain! Frankly, I much prefer the omnipotence of flying and soaring dreams. BillM
