| yes, of course, cindy - for at least 11 yrs now...
i didn't know he did new age stuff, though; i thought he did
sentimental, old standards. maybe it's a different franks - or he's
entered a new dimension i haven't heard yet...

| I like Michale Franks too, have several of his CD's. He has been
around for many years according to the blurb about him on the inserts,
but I first discovered him on that New Age radio station in Boston that
was sold a couple of years ago.
Some of Michael's phrases that tickle me --
Popsicle Toes
"Peaches" (what he calls his girl)
How did you discover him, Cin?

Hi fellow MF fans (;^) Wonderful!
I think, judging by the progression of the CDs, that somewhere in the
last decade or so, he tapped into other dimensions. Yet it's not
really 'new age' per se...rather they're extremely subtle references
and unless you comb through the lyrics, you won't really notice them.
A former DEJAVUer named Brian MacKrill introduced me to him a
few years ago with a tape sent from Australia. But only in recent
months did I play it through again and become a real fan of his work.
Since then I have purchased just about all of his 12 CDs or so, and
am really enjoying them. He's quite the romantic. If time permits,
I may enter some of his lyrics here...and feel free to do the same if
you'd like to.
Cindy
PS. I was hoping Brian would make it up for the DEJAVU party, however
his business trip was canceled. So he'll be with us in spirit.
He noted here in the 1990-1991 timeframe, as a then contractor in
Digital Holland.

| "That's why I practice and practice,
and I chew on some cactus,
and I give my pistols a twirl;
Roll up a load, Roll down the road,
I go Downtown, wrestle a live nude girl....
I go Downtown..."
I think that was from Birchfield Nines.... I've been a
Michael Franks fan since about '78, when KKGO (L.A. jazz station at the
time) was playing his music, The Art of Tea. M.F. has always been
renowned for excellent backing musicians & clean engineering. Trivia:
on the Art of Tea, he was backed by 2/3 of the Crusaders; Jow Sample,
Wilton Fender, and Larry Carlton (honorary Crusader)...
And, of course, the deeper metaphysical meanings of his music is
apparent to the most casual observer, as evidenced in the above
excerpt.... :^)

Is that 'ditto' on the music, or 'ditto' on the eggplant recipe? ;^)

How I Remember You, by Michael Franks
If it's true from the Start
That the names of those we love
Are written on our hearts
And we search 'till we find
In this jungle of confusion
Something that reminds us
How we love each other
Then I think I've found the clue
Because I'm certain I remember you
Through my window I see
How the seasons change like notes
Within some Harmony
But the love in our eyes
Is an endless summer
Is a joy that magnifies
Each time we touch each other
And it feels like DEJAVU (;^)
As my heart reveals
How I remember you
Day after day I'm amazed
How our love intensifies
In every way it resembles Forever
Abandons us never
Like the sunlight that shines
Like the fragrance of the rose
No single word defines
We are tuned to the Sound
That displays creation
That our lives revolve around
And searching for each other
From a million hearts we choose
You remember me and I remember you
A chorus of sparrows in summer
Is how I remember you
The fire of maples in autumn
Is how I remember you
The silence of snowfall in winter
Is how I remember you

Soul Mate, by Michael Franks
I know whereof I speak
Believe me
When it comes to the subject
Of loneliness look it up you'll see
There's a picture of me
But that's ancient history now
Completely
Now when it comes to the subject
Of happiness I'm the man to see
And my advice in summary:
Look for a soul mate
Someone whose love will go the Distance
Stop collecting only temporary hearts
Just find a soul mate
And then let go of your resistance
Youll live happy ever after from the start
You'll need a soul mate
Before your house of cards collapses
Whose devotion's like a candle in the night
Locate a soul mate
To help you navigate the rapids
That rise up along the river of your life
It's you or do my eyes deceive me?
Like divine intervention
You gave your heart to me for keeps
I knew I was in deep
This feeling I have it never leaves me
What a perfect invention
Love is. It soothes the savage beast
These words of wisdom I repeat
* This song from his "Dragonfly Summer" CD
