One of the more interesting differences between eastern (oriental)
religions (philosphies) and western religions (so called civilization)
is the concept of duality of the universe (western good vs. evil) and
the oriental concept of ying/ yang (the universe as all emcompassing
of mixed forces). We western Civvies are always very tough on
ourselves as to conquering over evil, the devil, original sin! Talk
about a no win situation, original sin: God's Catch 22!

;-) The east never really thought the west has reached any
level of civilization yet ;-) Mainly because of the European
approach of conquering and converting any civilization that
the Europeans could not understand and manipulate, be it Asian,
African, Australian and Native North & South American. Pretty
barbaric, naive and sad. The European religion is a convenient
scapegoat for carrying out the invasions and genocides.

| Re: .2
Hmmmm, well let's not toss out the western civvie baby with the bath
water. Remember, the Judeo-Christian influence started in the Fertile
Crescent and basically swept into northern Europe only after being
Romanized. Prehistoric Europe remained fairly peaceful peopled by
earth worshipping hunter-gatherers until the mobile tribes from the
Asiactic steppes brought the horse and domination to Europe. Amber,
tin, and other trade goods were traded from the Baltic to Sardinia.
That old culture was swept away and lost much like the way the
indigenous peoples of the Americas were conquered. BillM

Hahahaha!!!!!
Well then, just for you, I'll enter #69 just before you depart. (;^)
Or send it offline. As the Master might suggest - it is necessary to
first practice the discipline that the ones preceding it give. [Sounds
good, yes??? (;^)]
Btw, I'm going to start deleting the earlier ones here soon due to
copyright laws, etc...can't have significant chunks of a book in a
conference at any one time.

| Well, I finally found a copy of these teachings. remember, Cindy, I
told you that I couldn't find it in Barnes & Noble? (or anywhere else)
You suggested the Hobbitt Doorway to order it. (Sneaky plug there :-) )
I was in B & N last week and there it was. (A not unusual occurence for
me to find a book that wasn't readily available a few days before.
However, with the $17.00 price tag, I couldn't get it at that time.
Promising to come back the next weekend. However, I happened to be in
the Booksmith in the Nashua Mall on Sunday, and there it was again. A
little cheaper but not much. What I did find was a different
translation. This one by Hua-Ching Ni. Published by Shambhala books.
The format is slightly different. Instead of verse style, it's done as
lessons from a Venerable Master/Teacher to a group of students led by
an Exalted Prince. I've been comparing my book to your entries and they
are much the same in content, while being different in style. The
message comes across though.
Bright Blessings,
PJ

| By way of comparison, I'll enter #'s 24 and 25. I know that you've
already deleted #24, but #25 flows from #24 and may help.
Please don't delete #25 right away, so that folks may compare the two
styles. Thanks, Cindy.
#24
"The prince addressed the master once again. 'Venerable Teacher,
according to the Universal Way, when one attains subtle universal
awareness he should not label it an achievement. Is that correct?'
the master kindly answered, 'Yes, this is very true, dear prince. I
have received nothing from the attainment of unconditional awareness.
Awareness of the integral nature of the universe is indescribable; it
cannot be contained by any word or name. If a person thinks in terms of
attaining something, that means he believes there is something to
obtain or achieve external to his own nature. It means that he fails to
realize that his own true nature is the integral nature of the universe
itself.' "
#25
"The master continued, 'Moreover, kind prince, the Integral One in the
equality of the nature of all things. In reality, nothing is high or
low. To be aware of this is to know the Universal Way.
'When one has no awareness of self or others or of life and death, and
when one lives one's life with sincerity, then every moment and every
activity are an expression of the bondage-free truth. It is no longer
necessary to attain a transcendental awareness of the integral nature
of the universe.
'Kind prince, all spiritual paths are not true paths that can lead one
to the Integral realm of universal oneness. People may call them
spiritual, but in reality they are only mental constructs. Follow only
the Universal Way, enbrace only Oneness, and ignore all divergence."
It goes on from there with sometimes the Prince making observations and
sometimes the Master teaching lessons.
Bright Blessings,
PJ

eternal question of which came first, the chicken or the egg. :-)
At last, at last, an answer.
