| It's my personal belief that all "coincidences" (in fact, all events)
can be interpreted as "having an ordinary explanation" (that is, being
a product of the laws of physics as we generally understand them) or
being caused by some form of extranatural intervention (i.e.,
supernatural, divine, etc). What the ultimate truth is doesn't actually
matter (if it could even be known). What matters is that any person is
free to interpret any event in any way they wish, providing that
they're not lying to themselves for some reason. All that's necessary
is that your framework for interpretation be consistent and sincere.
Make sure that what you choose to believe is not chosen just to make
you feel good (or bad), but because you "feel" it to be true.

RE: .0
I don't know that "6th sense" is the ultimate appropriate label, but
it will do for now.
From what I know at this time, based on hearing and reading from others
far more intelligent and knowledgeable than myself, there are many
mysteries for which we do not have answers for - today. Most of the
mysterious activites have to do with the brain, and many people
knowledgeable in this area feel that what we consider "6th sense"
or psychic - in effect, mysterious - is really just a normal function
of the brain. It is not generally "common" due to our present status
in the evolutionary plane.
For me, "6th sense" activity runs in my mother's side of the family.
It is not a frequent event, and when it does manifest itself, it is
usually in regard to a negative event, usually a passing of someone
to the next plane.
I seem to have inherited some of this gift, and over the last year or
so have been inching toward developing this gift. The experiences so
far have been interesting. Unfortunately, they have been inconsistent, but
nonetheless interesting. They have not all been negative either; more
like what you experience, but there have been some negative.
It's interesting and exciting activity, but also a little frightening.
I have been taking the very sage wise advice of this notesfile, and
been proceeding very cautiously with much testing (as best I know at
this point).
Whether or not the activity is real, it is for me, and so therefore I
accept it. Where does it come from? Perhaps the brain, another plane,
a "6th sense", whatever. Does it matter? To some, I suppose. To
me the source is a point of curiosity, but is not really that
important. What I consider important is that this "could be" another
whole new dimension which helps define who I am. And, if it goes
the way I would like it to, there is the possibility of helping other
people, as well as myself. I would enjoy that despite the heavy
burden such a gift would bring. Time will tell.
Peace.

1924.3 | I've got it too.... | BOSDS1::CONNOR | | Wed Mar 09 1994 10:49 | 12 |
| This runs in my family as well, on my mother's side. Every since I was young,
I've had an ability to "pick up" on things - like traits of one's personality,
or occurences in their past, who's calling on the phone. In 1989, I had one
major premonition (the murder of a friend) that came true the following day -
every since then, my intuition has been poor, although it's slowly coming back.
At the time, I didn't really take it seriously and I was in some ways afraid
of it. But I believe this is a gift and that it could be used to help myself
and others. I'm presently creating a lifestyle that will inspire me, and I
believe that my natural gifts will soon begin to thrive.
I agree with the idea that it's not so important what it is but just to
recognize that - it is - and to enjoy it.

| I think this 6th sense is more developed or works better with those
close to us. My mother, sister and I are often very in tune with each
other, and call just when the other(s) are thinking of calling the one
who first calls. A lot of times we will call about a subject that the
other has also been thinkging about, although they've never discussed
it.
My husband is also very intuitive in that sense. He often will start
talimg about something I'm thinking about, and sometimes, he calls when
I'm at work about something that I'm thinking about then, so it's not
restricted to close proximity.
When I was having my son, and he was not due for several days, my
husband, who rarely stays off work, mentioned that he didn't feel
like going to work. He was then working as a plumber, and the site
he was currently at was over 1 1/2 hours away from our house.
Since he decided to stay home I went back to bed, and app. 1 hour
later, began having contractions. Our son was born that afternoon.
I've always believed he somehow "knew" that was the day.

| I had this happen only once, but my father often had "feelings" about
things.
My experience: It was Christmas time and in the House in Michigan,
I was hanging lights over the kitchen windows. I said, "I feel like
I am going to fall." I was standing on the counter. My wife said,
"You are on the counter, how can you fall." I dismissed it, and
went on with the hangings, and when I got to the counter stove, I
attempted to step over it, and my foot slipped, and I crashed down
on top of the stove, and then on to the floor.
I was hurting pretty badly, as I broke the stove, and landed hard upon
the floor. I will not ignore a feeling again.

1924.6 | some...er...thoughts (;^) | TNPUBS::PAINTER | Planet Crayon | Thu Mar 10 1994 00:29 | 23 |

Happens to me all the time. It's kind of like living the life of Counselor
Troy. (;^)
One explanation is that when you are not 'trying', in the space between
your thoughts - otherwise known as 'pure consciousness' or 'field of
infinite possibilities' - you can 'know' anything.
Most people have it manifest in ways like when you're trying to remember
the name of someone, but cannot...and then sometime later when you're
no longer 'trying', then suddenly it comes to you. It's essentially
the same thing.
The difficulty is that in the west, we are so trained to use our minds
to know things, that the thoughts of the mind crowd out the space, and
our minds are rarely quiet enough to allow what is in the space
between, to come through. Or something comes through, and our mind
jumps in and says, "Nah...that's not logically possible." (;^)
There are meditation techniques that help to quiet the mind though.
Also things like yoga, tai chi, etc...they all help.

| I think our knowledge of the mechanics of how information and
energy are transmitted in nature is very abundant but still
incomplete. That we will probably still find not only new channels
now generally considered 'paranormal,' but also discover some
extraordinary twists to the way we view the processing of conventional
sensory impressions as well, and that both of these will have a direct
bearing on our collective understanding of the kinds of things we
consider 'sixth sense' and so on.
Most things commonly believed to be paranormal in
anecdotal reports are I believe very likely at best primarily
illusions in the hall of mirrors of the mind. But some events
probably have at least a small element of something whose real nature
is almost completely unknown to us at present.
kind regards,
todd

| We just had another occurence.
My step-mother (mother's sister) hasn't been feeling comfortable for
the last couple of days, and mentioned to a neighbor she has a "bad
feeling" about somebody in the family. She could not identify who the
family member is.
Last night she got a phone call that her sister was found unconcious
in her apartment from a stroke.

| I've had 'revelations' all my life. It wasn't till I was about 10 that
I found out that a lot of people don't 'see' things the way I did, nor
did they communicate telepathically......this led me on a great search
to find out why I was so different. No child likes to be different
from their friends. After much research I came to my own conclusion
that whether or not there is a scientific reason (I tend to think it's
a normal brain function ) ....it works for me. Mine range from the
classic 'know who's calling' to 'something's going to happen' ones.
They come and go....and I'm comfortable with them.

This looks like a good note to write this...
Last Friday while driving to a weekend retreat in western Mass.,
suddenly I was overwhelmed with the feeling that former Pres. Nixon
was either getting ready to leave this plane, or had just left. I
had heard that he had lapsed into a coma and was not doing well, but
people have been known to live for years in a coma.
The retreat had no newspapers or television (that was turned on), so
I didn't find out until yesterday evening on the drive back when I
stopped off to see Ro Reinke at her new bookstore in Athol. The
headlines on the newspapers were that he indeed had died late on
Friday night.
It's typical for me to get flashes ahead of time of events that will
take place. For example, at the retreat, I kept getting an image of a
snake sunning itself. Sure enough, while walking down a hill covered
with rocks and leaves that day, I almost stepped on a snake - a brown
one with a black stripe. It moved, and then so did I!
But the one with Pres. Nixon was a bit out of the ordinary.
