| Lorenzo,
It is [also?] called a caul. It presumably indicates that the child
has been gifted with Second Sight. (I'm not clear if that is
precognition or clairvoyance.)

| I was born with the caul. The old ones told my mother it meant that
I would be gifted with the wild talents, but not neccisarily happy in
more mundane matters. They considered it a good sign. That the gifts
outweighted the costs.

Have you noticed anything "un-natural" in your life yet? (such as
second sites?).

1842.4 | WHAT, me?? unusual??? | CAADC::BABCOCK | | Tue May 25 1993 16:11 | 15 |
| You have got to be kidding!!! My whole life is "un-natural", except
I don't see it that way.. To me, this is normal. All the usual stuff,
like knowing who is calling when the phone rings, what is in a box
before you open it, when somwone dear is in trouble. When I want my
kids to phone home, I just tell them to (I think at them). They call
that night, ofter at the same time, tho they live 2000 miles apart.
I have 'call interupt' just to handle them calling at the same time.
Everyone in my family is this way, but they did not all have the caul.
Only my uncle, as far as I know. Even in a family of telepaths, I am
different. I see things they don't. I search for things they don't
know they are missing.
Judy (still weighing the gifts against the costs)

| I also thought that the "veil" that is mentioned not only here but in the
bible refers to ectoplasm that has left the body of a mediumistic person
and covers the body...

| The veiled child is blessed.
My youngest daughter Kirsten is such a child, she was veiled from head
to chest.. IE a full veil.
The doctors removed it, and threw it away... drat. According to
seagoing myths, a vessel that carries a veil can not be sunk or
destroyed. An ancient story goes that Erik the Red had a veil, and
then he died his ship was to be burned in the Fjords, as befits a
Viking. However the fire arrows, did not catch the ship afire the
first time, a second attempt, it started to rain, and the arrows went
out. A third try was simularily aborted, when his wife (widow) asked
to be rowed out to the vessel, and there she went to the hidden
compartment and removed the veil. The last attempt the boat burned to
the waterline and sank beneith the waters.
I would love to have a preserved veil.

| Since it is just skin, I would guess that any 'tanning agent' would
preserve it like leather.
It has been suggested as a medicinal ingredient... (I know not what)
and it appeared to keep ships afloat by some mysterious means.
Could be old married female persons stories. Or even urban (pre)
legends.

| Normally it encapsulates the entire baby and ruptures at birth. In some
cases a second membrane is formed and can cover part of the child, the
head and hands are to likely sites. In some cases the primary membrane
does not rupture and the baby comes out completely encapsulated in it.
It is of a similar nature to another membrane which lines the abdomen.
