Ray,
You might want to read not 1823. Topic "House Guest".
Might make you feel better anyway.

| Kath, Thanks for the pointer. This is my first experience with "one"
that actually moves things. I was only use to the common garden
variety noise makers.
thanks again,

| Ray,
you may just have a playful houseguest who is trying to get your
attention (versus a poltergeist). Try telling it to stop; a regular
garden variety ghost will do as told. Try leaving scrabble pieces
around, and ask 'it' to tell you its name. My houseguest moved
furniture for weeks, and the occasional small item would be moved
from one place to another. Once my friends and I started ackowledging
her presence among us, the stunts to get attention slowed down.
One other thing that I think my houseguest liked -- I talked to
her. When I came home and sensed her in the room, I would turn in
that direction and say hello, ask how her day was, etc. Sounds
funny, I know, I often thought that if another human were watching
me, they would call the men in white. But in my case, the
acknowledgement of her presence made a big difference. I've lived
with her for 10 years now, and still will greet her if I sense her
(but she's not around as much nowadays).
Isn't it something, though, how they can move things!!
Let us know what else happens.

1837.4 | its getting my attention alright | BUSY::RMONTAGUE | | Wed May 19 1993 16:55 | 21 |
| Hi lynn,
Thanks for your response and suggestions. Last saturday
night my "guest" was jingling the latch on my back door in the kitchen.
I though someone was trying to break in! I did yell at it out of
frustration not thinking that was something that may work. Well it
worked for the rest of the weekend. No noises what so ever. I did get
a surprize monday morning though... They back door latch was unlocked.
That door is always locked, I never use it. I locked it and then it was
unlocked again whem it got home from work monday night. I'm glad I also
have a deadbolt on the door. Hope it (not sure what to call him/her
yet) doesn't go after that one. IT is definitely trying to get my
attention. Last night I woke up around 2am and was lying in bed and it
pushed on the mattress making a rocking motion. I got up and looked
under the bed!! He/she also did it one more time around 5am, it was
time to get up anyway. I am noticing a very strong presence in the
morning while getting ready for work.
Thanks again for the suggestions. I will try talking to it, don't know
if I'm ready for the leaving letters out yet.

1837.5 | so, pay attention!! | MR4DEC::LBERMAN | | Tue May 25 1993 17:10 | 17 |
| Ray,
my guest introduced herself to me by walking on my bed one night.
Scared the stuffing out of me, but I told "it" (before I knew it
was a "her" to get off the bed and out of the room. The only other
time she came in jiggled the bed was to awaken me and let me know
that I had left the back door open and the light on.
Since your shouted instruction to knock it off worked on the back
door incident, I would definitely talk to your guest more and more.
Unless you like being awakened by jumpy mattresses (I don't!), you
should say in a firm, non angry voice, to stay out of your bedroom.
I gotta believe you've got a youthful guest, considering that it
really is trying to get your attention.
Have you been able to "feel" its presence? Do you get the sensation
that someone is looking over your shoulder or standing in a doorway
watching you? If so, talk to the presence. Say hello. Be nice -- and
then tell it to knock off whatever you don't like!
regards, lynn

1837.6 | I wish I could get "IT" to do the dishes | BUSY::RMONTAGUE | | Wed May 26 1993 17:07 | 16 |
| Hi Lynn, Nice of you to write again. I have been talking to "it" more
by greeting it when I get home ect.. I don't feel very much presence
in the evening just the noises. In the morning the presence is very
strong. Yesterday I greeted it with a "good morning" and felt it follow
me around the apartment. On the way out I asked it to clean up while I
was at work, but I still had the coffee cup and toast dish in the sink
when I got home. Seems that the noises are getting to be a bit louder
but not as often. Last night I noticed noises in the landlords storage
room which is right behind my kitchen and that door is locked at night.
It may be starting to explore the building which could explain why I'm
hearing less. I asked my girlfriend who lives on the 3rd floor (I live
on the 1st) if she has heard anything, she claims no and thinks I'm
crazy anyway, but I know I definately have a "house guest".
regards,
Ray
