I call it a "Spirit" I have had pictures taken off the wall in my daughters
room and neatly put on her bed. Some times I have had lights turnt on.
Or things on the night stands moved.
Have you ever had someone call your name ? When Know one is there?
That also has happen to me and my Daughter.
I have been told that I have psychic abilities, By a Psychic.

| Yes, I had one in the house where I lived while attending high school.
I saw her several times in my room, my mother heard her, my brother and
several friends saw her in my room. She was pretty harmless, just
stayed in my bedroom over my bed, never did communicate why she was
there, although I did sit up and ask her once. Smiling, she faded
away.
I wondered if she would follow me as I moved around, but she never did.
The place I live now is only six years old, and I've lived there each
of those six years, being the first tenant. One night while laying in
bed, my face down in my pillow, but not asleep yet, and my cat at my
feet, I felt something sit down on my bed. I heard the cat jump off
the bed almost simultaneously and as I slowly looked up I saw the
outline of a relative who passed away eight years ago. She smiled at
me and reached out to brush the hair out of my eyes, and I felt it.
This was very frightening and I kept speaking out loud to myself as if
I didn't believe it was happening. I kept talking to her, saying, "You
are really sitting here, aren't you?" I saw the cat on the floor, all
her hair standing up, looking at the bed. Obviously she saw the woman
too.
When I lay in bed at night I often hear noises that I can attribute to
those of the complex I live in, but there are also noises that make no
sense. That is usually when the cat decides to play the game:
"There's a burglar in your house at 2am" and looks wild-eyed at empty
space.
I was washing my car last summer and thought I heard my name
called...when I looked up I saw the woman from my old house. This gave
me the creeps and I sent off-line mail to someone in here inquring if
it as possible for the woman to suddenly show up.
I have a had a lot of experiences that confirm my belief I have
"guests" and they are in different notes in here...

1823.3 | Let me tell you about my "house guest" | CRONIC::KWALKER | | Fri Apr 09 1993 13:12 | 94 |
|
Well, I've recently (9 months ago) moved to an apartment
complex. It's just myself and my 3 birds in the apartment.
I NEVER hear my neighbors, except when someone runs the water,
or flushes a toilet, then I hear the water moving in the pipes.
But since I've been there, several weird things have happened.
I've come home from work on more than one occasion to find
the mirror in the bathroom steamed up and the shower walls wet
like someone has just taken a shower.
I have a stained glass ornament hanging in my livingroom window,
and I've come home to find it taken down and left on the TV or
the coffee table sometimes.
I live on the third floor, and there is an attic above me, its
unlocked between 8:00 am. and 8:00 pm. so the tenants can
access their assigned storage space up there. But several times
I've heard people walking around up there at 2:00 am. One time
I got up to check the attic door to tell whoever was up there
that they were keeping me awake. But the door was locked.
I was sitting in the livingroom once and had left a box of cereal
on the counter in the kitchen. I heard the box fall off the
counter, which is no big deal, but when I went in the kitchen to
pick it up, it was across the room! I know cereal boxes can't
roll.
I was telling some of my friends here at work about the things
going on and they jokingly keep telling me I have a ghost. And
they periodically ask for a "ghost update".
The last few "really" weird things that have happened have been
when I was asleep. For instance, in the bedroom, the lamp and
the alarm clock are plugged in next to the bed. The plug that
they are in can be shut off and on from the light switch by the
door. So I never touch the switch or else I would have to keep
resetting my clock and alarm. Everyone has some sort of routine
at night, and mine is to get into bed, check my alarm, turn off
the lamp (using the switch on the lamp), put my glasses on top
of the clock, and roll over. One morning, my alarm clock was
off, no power. I thought the power must have gone out. I jumped
up to look at the kitchen clock (battery operated), and found
that I was still ok and would only have to rush a little not to
be late. When I went into the bathroom, I hit the light switch
by habbit, and the light came on. It was then I realized that
the power wasn't out. I went back to the bedroom and flicked the
switch by the door, the alarm came on and so did the lamp!
For me to have done this, I would have had to turn the lamp back
on, get out of bed, and turn it off from the switch on the wall,
get back in bed, and not remember the whole thing. I know I didn't
do it.
I have a TV in the bedroom that I will watch before going to sleep.
I have cable running to it from the livingroom. One night,
I turned off the TV, got into bed, checked my alarm, turned off the
lamp, took off my glasses, and went to sleep. In the morning,
it was snowing, so I turned on the TV to see the weather report.
Cable was out. (so I thought), I started getting ready for work,
later when feeding my birds in the living room, I turned the TV on
in there to check if Cable was back on. It was. When I was back
in the bedroom to finish dressing, I turned on the TV in there to
watch the news while I was dressing. Cable was out again...
But it wasn't, I could here the TV in the livingroom still. So
check the cables in the back. Everything looked fine. I followed
the cable into the livingroom to the splitter. That's when I found
the problem. Normally the cable came in from the jack, to the
splitter, then from one part of the splitter to the TV in the
livingroom and from the other part of the splitter to the TV in
the bedroom. This day, the cable came in from the jack, directly
to the TV in the livingroom.
This means sometime while I was sleeping, someone took the cable
out of the splitter, the cable from the splitter out of the TV
and reconnected the cable directly to the TV. I know I didn't
do it..
There is more, but I won't bore you with them. My "House Guest"
usually pulls something about every 2-3 weeks.
Do I just ignore it, or do I try to figure out what it's up to?
If it is a ghost or a spirit, it's a very mischievous one..
I have a friend who is into numerology. She says my birth number
is 7. She says that "Septon" people are most likely to experience
ESP and psychic awareness. And that is why my house guest is
picking on me. Because he knows I'll see it, or believe it, or
something like that.
Anyway, comments welcome.

Ok, my guest pulled another one. I was getting my
stuff together to go to the laundry room. I have just bought
some new underwear, they came in a package of three, one
pick, one blue, one green.
After all my things were together I opened the package and
took the three pairs out and put them on top of the pile.
I walked into the kitched to throw the package away.
I walked back to the bedroom to get my laundry basket and
the green pair were gone. I looked everywhere, but they're
gone.
My guest has moved things around, but he/she has never
taken anything before..
I think he/she is trying to annoy me.

We had similar things happen in one house. I took off a bra (beige)
one night and put it on a basket next to the bed. In the morning
it was gone. We searched everywhere for that thing, and finally I
got mad and told our friend (we'd been calling it "George" up to
that time, after that we called it "Georgia") to bring it back.
The next morning there was a bra there, beige, but 2 sizes too
small and with a front clasp. Definitely not mine. So I had
another fit, since it seemed to work pretty well the first time.
The next morning, that one was gone, but mine was right where I'd
left it a week earlier!
This guest also managed to get a jar of marshmallow creme and
some other goodies out of a locked safe in the closet. It was
fun for a while, but then it seemed to leave because we never
had anything else happen.

Or,
"Did that really happen?"
I just wondered if any of you with house guests ever had others to

| re. .7
I agree you are the one in control of the situation, just like
none of us would not like a person intruding into our homes
uninvited, the same should be the case with other entities.
The realm where deceased souls pass is separate from ours for
a good reason, those that die must progress, usually onto
their next life. Those that do not and persist in trying
to assert their influence on the physical plane at best could
be called mischievous, at the other extreme, many worst things.
Souls treading the evolutionary path walk the road of
reincarnation, those not interested in their evolution
hang around. If this is so why would one wish to welcome their
presence.
As said tell them to go towards the light, to take their
re birth, that you forgive them and the time has come to
leave. If they persist try placing a lighted candles around
the house. The jumping, or smoking of the flame is an
indication that these spirits are present, and this tends to
discourage them. If this does not work try placing a
photograph of a Divine personality before the photograph,
say Michelangelos depiction of Jesus Christ during the last
judgment where he is casting the spirits to one side.
This worked for someone who was being bothered by a particularly
persistent spirit. This extremely powerful depiction of this
divine personality, as apposed to the more traditional symbol
combined with the candle had the effect of removing a troublesome
entity.

| I believe it can be either one. I've had two female ghosts in
different places that I lived. It was obvious they were women because
I saw both of them plain as day. One was quite distinct, not shadowy
at all, while the other was shadowy but in color, as was the first, so
I could tell they were female.
The one of many years ago had long brown hair, was wearing a purple
cloak that had a fur mantle, and high leather boots that came up past
her knees.
The other one had grey hair and was wearing red lipstick.
I think that there could also be men just as easily seen as women.

1823.14 | Its not the dead you fear, its the living. | BUSY::KVILLANI | | Tue Apr 13 1993 15:53 | 71 |
| I have never seen a ghost. Thank God! in 1989 I had an extremely close
friend of mine pass away. (being 18 at the time) I was so confused and
went through hell. I felt so dislocated from reality, not knowing why,
not being able to say good-bye, wishing I did things this way, etc.
This person had been a teacher my High School, and she had Cancer. I
had graduated in 1987 and I had found out about her cancer in 1985 when
I took her typing class. Because I was finding it extremely difficult
to relate on any level with own mother, I kind of looked up to her. She
was always so supportive, very vibrant, energetic person who just got a
high off being alive. Anyway, being so frightened of death itself, I
really wanted to go to the hospital as I had about 12 hours after I
recieved the phone call that it was only a matter of time. During those
12 hours I so wanted to get the courage to go to her, thank her for
everything she did for me. (here I became a respectful, young lady, as
opposed to when she first met me at 16 years old. I was failing in my
studies, I was totally disrespectful to my teachers, and a real pain in
the #$%. By graduation, I made honor roll 2 times, and the same
teachers that could not stomach me, had me babysitting their children.
Class night I received a scholarship for "that student that has shown
the greatest compassion to his/her fellow human beings, and has
expressed a sincere in his/her chosen field of study.) It had been a
difficult 2 years knowing she had the cancer, BUT I never thought she
was really going to pass away. She always was determined to survive,
and becuase she was so optimistic and seemed strong-willed I really
believed her, because she drilled it into me all the time. It was the
longest Sunday in my life when something told me to call the Hospital,
I just suddenly felt really uncomfortable about her being in the
hospital. Upon calling the hospital and speaking with the nurse, I was
told that it was not likely she would make it to the morning.
She made it through Sunday and technically passed away 4-16-93 at
11:45pm. The medical examiner pronounced her officially dead at
4-17-93. What struck alot of people as odd (at least those who knew
her) thought wow! She had been in the hospital soooo long. She passes
away during the time that most of the school personnel and students
were on a trip to Greece. I myself had just gone back to work that
Monday the 17th after being out for 2 months with an injured back. It
was like she was the center of attention for so long, and when the time
was right she snuck out the back door.
I know I am ranting on about this, but it has been soo long since I
have ever spoken about it. I feared that she was goiing to contact me.
I mean we are not talking about being scared. We are talking about
being frightened to the point of almost having a breakdown. I would
not go out at night. When I was out at night WITH FRIENDS, and we were
sitting at the kitchen table, and her shades were up, I would envision
her face looking through the window. It never happened, but I would
never sit in a room with the shades open for a long long time. I have
been so flipped out about death and stuff like that, I do not want
anything to do with it. I could not sleep for two nights, and
especially after the third night which was the night of her wake. I
dont know to this day if I really heard her or thought I heard her. All
I remember is being halfway asleep and clearly hearing her say "just
pray for me" I woke up screaming so loud I did not go back to sleep.
It took me a long time to be able to be home alone. And on the same
note I feel guilty being so afraid of her. I know she would never hurt
me, on one hand I would give anything to talk to her again. YET! I am
so very scared to. I have to admit one thing, after looking through &
reading some of these notes, my god I am really impressed with
everyones courage that has dealt with it. I go crazy just thinking
about possibly dealing with it. I still do find it interesting to read
about but I just dont want to experience it. For me the difficulty was
that this was the first person that I was so close to that passed away.
One positive thing it did do was put my life in a new perspective. I do
get along much better with my mother, my outlook has changed
drastically. I just know I am going to experience the same intense
fear someday when it happens to another person that is real close to
me. I wish I could get over that fear. How true it is, that saying "the
only thing to fear is fear itself."
keep the stories coming, I have to admit they are interesting.

Re.14
What a beautiful tribute to a very special person in your life!
Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk, wrote much about fear and how to cope
with it. His approach is to 'make friends with your fear', and then
ask yourself what is really behind your fear. Then you may be able to
get to the bottom of it, face your real fear, and then it won't
paralyze you so much after that. It does take time though...be gentle
with yourself.
It does not sound like your friend would do you any harm...quite the
opposite in fact. Because you were so close, if she does try to come
visit you, it may be that she has a message for you about death that
could help you to overcome that very fear. That she's OK where she is,
that she loves you, and that everything really is fine. Although I've
never 'seen' a person who has died, I do 'feel' the presence of certain
people on occasion, particularly my grandfather whom I was very close
to, and still miss every once in a while.
There are many books on the subject you can read too - feel free to
contact me offline, or perhaps others can suggest some here.

>>> Has anyone ever seen any of your guests?
I have never SEEN my guest. (I'm finding I prefer GUEST to GHOST)
But I have heard him/her and I have seen the pranks it pulls.
I have had more than one friend see the wet shower, or things
moved. I never see things as they are moving, only where there
moved to. Even with the green underwear, I was there, but I didn't
see them disappear. I went back in the room and they were gone.
I'm not sure what I would do if I did see it..
I have told it to do something before and it did. That was
a few days before Christmas, it was blinking the second string
of lights on my tree, and I told it to "knock it off" and it
stopped. I then checked the connections on all the strings
of lights and checked all the bulbs for a blinker bulb and found
nothing. About and hour after the second string started blinking
again, and I said, "I said knock it off, you're not funny." and
it stopped and didn't happen again before I took the tree down
2 weeks later.
Someone here at work suggested that since I live in a complex
that has 22 apartments, I might ask some of the other tenants
if they are noticing anything. That it might be having fun with
the whole bunch of us and that's why I only have things happen
every couple of weeks.
But I think I'd feel silly asking them.. The only reason I'm writing
this in here is because I know people from this notesfile wouldn't
think I was nuts. And I needed to ask someone seriously about it.
As for being afraid. No, I'm not afraid. I just think its a
little creepy. I think if there was anything for me to be afraid
of, it probably would of happened by now. It's just a little
annoying not knowing when or why.

1823.25 | Strange stuff at work... | TEMPE::MERRICK | Stark Raving Sane!? | Thu Apr 15 1993 17:58 | 52 |
| We have a building here that a lot of people think is haunted. We've heard
stories about it being a morgue at one time, and about the property being
owned by an old farmer who was benig bought out by city/gvt/something and
mysteriously disappeared, etc, but we don't really know what it was or what
happened. We only know that a lot of weird things happen over there, and
being in security, we hear most of the stories and experience a lot of stuff
ourselves.
People have seen someone over there at the end of this one hall. One morning
(4am) I saw what looked like a white cat dive into the dumpster, but there
was nothing there when I went for a closer look.
One evening my partner came running out of the kitchen (no one likes that
kitchen) because he'd been in there and stopped the swinging doors as he
went through them, then when he got to the middle of the room they started
swinging again.
One Sunday I came out of the hall (where people see someone) and slammed the
door behind me and went on my way. I got about 20 feet down the hall and
the door slammed again -- no one was there and no one was in the building
except my partner and me. I went through another door into an office area
and closed the door softly because I was still looking for someone behind me.
Finally I gave up and headed down the aisle, and all of a sudden the door I'd
just shut slammed. And no one was there. In that same area, only when it
was dark, you could hear someone opening and shutting file cabinet drawers.
The lobby and part of the hall had red tiles and running a cart over them
was never quiet. And sometimes when there was no one else in the building, or
just security and a couple of other people, you'd hear someone running a cart
down the hall, but no one and nothing would be there when you looked.
One night a few years back I had to work til almost midnight and be back by
5am, so instead of making the hour drive home and another hour back, I made
use of the cot in the empty nurse's office. I'd been asleep for about two
hours when I woke up drenched and scared to death. The "dream" I'd had wasn't
a dream, it didn't have that feeling to it at all. It was very black, no light
or sound at all. There was nothing visual to this experience, only feeling on
a very basic level. I was fighting for my life, another being wanted to take
over my body. The being switched from male to female and back again, and used
different arguments and tactics, and finally, thinking about my daughter, I
was able to fight it off (or something). This doesn't describe the feeling
very well. That's the only time I've ever had something like that happen.
After I woke up, I didn't feel anything else, and I didn't feel like whatever
it was really was anything to do with the building, that's just where it
happened. I just knew that small war was finished.
A couple of weeks later, a friend I'd discussed the experience with was
reading through this file and forwarded me a note (I'm not sure which one
now) that describes almost the same thing. Just reading that gave me the
creeps all over again.

| Ellen,
your experience is so similar to my girl friend's that it's prompted me
to reply.
It's hard to know where to start. My girlfriend has always been very
pyschic, been able to astral travel, talk to her (dead) grandmother.
This sounds fantastic, but it is very ordinary if, like her, you happen to
have a strong natural talent.
I was open minded with a cynical, aetheistic background.
We went on holiday to Cornwall for a long romantic weekend. Ghillie
became very nervous, she had had a dream of an old lady who gave her
VERY hostile feelings. As the first evening progressed, her arms became
heavy, she felt disassociated, the kind of feelings that one would
normally associate with being in the middle/early stages of meditation.
I had never seen her worried by anything psychic before.
I cannot describe the whole experience, the worst happened from approx
10pm till 4am. The women made what I can only descibe as a considered
attack. Ghillie was awake through almost all. The women became visual,
threatening, like your own experience, took on many forms. Ghillie saw
the woman both in her mind and physically awake.
I was with her throughout and I have never been so scared for another
person. Although I could not see her physically or in my mind, I could
certainly feel her presence in the room at times.
Ghillie's body kept on arching up, she was obviously scared stiff.
After a few hours Ghillie was becoming more tired. Luckily, so was this
lady. The physical assaults particularly seemed to tire the woman.(it's
amazing what you notice even when scared) I wont go on any more about
Cornwall.....but it certainly wasn't the end of it all.
We came back, made several phone calls to organisations like
Rosecrutions (spelling?), a local psychic healer (who was hopeless).
Then left the matter.
About two months later, Ghillie was washing up and she thought of the
woman absentmindedly. The woman appeared to Ghillie physically...and
scared the xxx!!@ out of her.
Over a period of three/four weeks I became more and more aware of
feeling her myself in the house. I was so worried about this all by now
that I went to the local Spiritualist Church and we had an interview with
one of their healers, a guy called Jack Hoad. Jack is one of those
fellas who immediately makes you feel at ease and at peace.
He explained that the woman was probably attracted to Ghillie because
of her natural abilities, ie because Ghillie could notice her. He
explained that we had to talk to the woman and explain to her that she
was actualy dead as she probably didn't know. We had to explain to her
that in her lifetime there would have been people who would have loved
her and that if she looked for these people with love, they would help
her. We had to project love towards her (hard to do to a person who has
been scaring you...you have to understand them first)
We talked to this woman the same day, ...it worked.
She came back to Ghillie approx 3 months ago and thanked us. I ought to
mention that the lady did me a great favour...the experiences I had
then were more than enough to convince me of the existance of life in
Spirit. Two years later we are both Spiritualists, attend a psychic
development circle. I have read much and changed my life. Not that I
was such a bad person, just that I am more focussed on Spiritual
development now (rather than psychic development, of which I have
little talent)
It took me a few years to learn that to find your soul you must listen
and lead with your heart, not your mind.
.. a bit of a quote...
Where the heart is saying
"this is so" and the intellect is saying, "I dont understand, therefore
I dont believe"
When you are with another human being are you really communicating with
the mind? or are you speaking to a soul and the minds are scurying
around trying to put it all into order and vocabulary?
When your mind asks "why?", you realise how easily it is satisfied with
a superficial answer.
When your heart asks "why?"
it wants nothing but the truth of God.
Faith is not an intellectual thing
it is a feeling.
best wishes

Re: .25
(Hi Ellen)
This note is to substantiate Ellen's entry.
I work with Ellen at the building she was refering to and have noticed
a few things myself. First I'd like to say that I don't easily believe
"stories" I hear and I even try to debunk them if I can. For example:
In this building, when I first transfered here, I was told of a strange
automatic door that would, from time to time, open by itself without
anyone hitting the power button to open it. I checked it out and found
that it did in fact open without anyone pushing the power button. I
also figured out and physically proved why. We carry two-way radios
with us through the building. If someone is standing outside the door
and they key their radio, the frequency from the radio activates the
automatic door mechanism and (of course) opens the door.
I'm not saying there isn't something about this building though!
It just takes a little more to convince me. In addition to what Ellen
has said I offer this....
I work the (haha.....HA!) graveyard shift. The building is usually
empty except for me and my partner. The "kitchen" is not in operation
so all the equipment shut down. When you walk into it you have to walk
all the way to the other side of it to turn the lights on because there
is no switch by the door. At night it is very dark in there (nice
setting, huh?) and the first light you see when you walk through the
door is the digital temperature gage for the big walk in freezer. On a
couple of occasions I have walked in and look up at the gage and the
read-out was 66.6! That's good for a shiver. But what I find really
strange is that the freezer is not running. It's shut down and just
the gage is working. I have gone through there and the gage will read
50 degrees. Two hours later I come back thru and the gage reads 95
degrees! The door is warm but the outside frame is cold! My partner
goes thru two hours later and gets a reading of 60 degrees. Strange???
The temperture gages are working just fine, maintenance checks them
regularly. (The walk-in refrigerator's temperature remains constant!)
Funny I can't get anybody to open the freezer door when it is hot!
ME? Hahahaha, sorry but I haven't try it..........YET!
I have also played the file cabinet drawer game. I go through the
one office area and there are drawers open. I close them. I come
through again a couple of hours later and there are drawers open again.
DIFFERENT DRAWERS!! AND NOBODY IN THE BUILDING!
Dave
P.S. I'm becoming a pretty darn good whistler!

Why do very few people ALWAYS see spirits where ever they live and
most people never see or experience any even where the few people see
them?
I asked the same question in note 1680 because I seem to be able to
find spirits/ghosts/etc wherever I have lived, while my mother,
although she could hear one one of the times, has never seen any of
them.
You may want to check out the answer there. I've always wondered it
myself, not to mention ( sarcastic tone here...) Why am I the lucky
one?
Trust me, seeing spirits isn't fun and it is certainly nothing I like
to tell epeople.
"Yeah, I often see the ghosts of my dead cats or relatives."
You would be surprised how quickly people have to excuse
themselves...their fireplace needs cleaning, or their gutters, or
something else when you tell them something like that!

| Why can a few see and most cant?....
Pyschic abilities, or the possession and strength of them is a natural
ability. Everyone is pyschic but the ability/skill varies. ie all
people receive ideas and inspiration from Spirit, most
people can "feel" if a spirit is near them (though most would think it
to be a draft) a few can hear, fewer can see, very few can enable
spirits to move physical objects.
Everyone's abilities can be improved by training but it can be compared
to musical abilities, everyone can be trained but a Mozart is born
great.
To see spirits means you must be able to perceive a higher vibration
level. Spirit life is as an energy based existance at a frequency above
light speed. A medium basically works like a transformer, seeing with your
spirit eye/ear/body and being able to perceive this through your
physical body. It can be trained, but a brilliant pyschic is born that
way.
Hell of a world 'aint it

| We moved into to a 100+ year old house about 6 years ago. The first
few months things dissapeared like crazy!
The first night we spent in the house I put my daughter, who was 2 at
the time, to bed. She was still in a crib and had a beautiful pink
quilt as her "blankey". Believe me she didn't go anywhere, especially
to bed, without this thing! The next morning I went upstairs to get
her and the "blankey" was gone. I KNEW that I had put her to bed with
it the night before, but just the same we torn the house apart and
never did find it. My husband was sure that it just got misplaced in
the move, but in the past 6 years the "blankey" has never turned up.
About a month later I had our laundry seperated into piles in our
bedroom, all of our jeans, including my favorite OLD pair were the next
load to hit the washer. I went to gather up the jeans and low and
behold my old fav's were gone. I knew for a fact that they were on the
top of that pile because I had just taken them off and added them to
the pile. I rooted around for those jeans for months and never came
across them.
My son had a Detroit Tiger ball cap that his grandfather gave him just
before he died, (the grandfather), and only took it off to take a
shower and when he went to bed. Every night he would hang this hat on
the bottom the lower left bed post. One morning my son came racing down
very upset that he could not find his hat. Well, we did the house
tearing apart AGAIN and the hat has never been found.
My parents came for a visit and my father put his glasses down on the
end table next to the sofa. Five minutes later he reached out to get
his glasses only to find empty space. We did the house search again
and never found his glasses.
I had my clothes for work laid out on a chair in the bedroom one night
only to find my pants missing in the morning. This is the only missing
article that I did find, but it wasn't until about a year later. I was
cleaning out my closet and found these pair of pants in a crumpled mess
in the bottom of a large box in the back of my closet.
I've tried to convince my husband that someone/something took our
belongings, but he is sure that these things have just been misplaced.
He won't even admit to hearing the "bumps in the middle of the night".
Many times we have heard large thumps coming from the upstairs bedrooms
and both of us will charge up the stairs to make sure the kids haven't
fallen out of bed. When we reach the kids rooms they are always
sleeping soundly.
I met someone who lived in our house about 15 years ago and she was
also convinced that we are not alone. My husband still won't have
anything to do with it. Maybe that explains why he hasn't had anything
of his come up missing. I've tried asking for our belongings back but
no such luck. Nothing has vanished in over 4 years, now that it has
something that belonged to each of us, except my husband.
We live in a very small town and it wouldn't take much to do some
research on my house. Just the same my guest seems friendly enough now
and I'm a little frightened to maybe dredge up some unfriendly facts.
I have also been visited by my great-aunt when I was a teen-ager. She
came and sat at the end of my bed a few days after her funeral. At
first I thought it was my mother checking on me but then realized I
could see her and yet see through her at the same time. I said, "Aunt
Betty is that really you?" She just smiled and waved at me and then
was gone.
My husband and I lost our best friend a year ago to cancer and I'm
still waiting for him to show up. I talk to him alot and know that one
of these days I'll find what I've been looking for,
This has turned out to be much longer than I intended! Sorry.
Cheers,

| lv,
You have quite an impressive story. The only part I have a problem
with is your theory that the reason your husband has had nothing of his
taken is because he won't have any part of the ghost theory. I have a
hard time agreeing with this only because I don't think ghosts leave
people alone based on the people's belief...I don't know, but it sounds
kind of weird...
I don't think you would be inviting unfriendly acts by just
investigating who your house guest is. If you were doing it with the
intent to get rid of it, maybe, but if you are just curious...I dont
think anything would happen...
I liked your title...it happens in Ohio too...
There are a couple of neat books out...one called, "Haunted Heartland"
that talks about several states including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois,
Indiana, and a lot more and the haunted houses that have been reported,
haunted sitings too...
It's always interesting because these people don't seem to be after a
lot of money and publicity like some people, including those people
whose house had demons in it, but they seemed just informational...

1823.39 | The ghost of comfort | STRATA::THOMAS | | Thu May 06 1993 04:49 | 78 |
| This mainly for the writer in note .14. I hope this my provied
some comfort to you. I have had several encounters but this is how it
may have started.
One Christmas eve while over my grandparents house back when I was
just about nine or ten years old I became very ill. This was really no
surprise since I seemed to always be sick during the winter months, but
this time I was really bad. I was rushed to the hospital the day before
Christmas eve, the doctor had told my mother that it would be alright
for me to spend Christmas at home as long as I could be watch care-
fully over the next few days. I guess the doctor thought that spending
Christmas in the hospital would be no fun for me or my family.
Being cared for in my grandparents house was no problem and since
it was the holidays the whole brood was there. I had about twenty-six
people in the house to watch me and that was not including the twenty
or so more across the street at my aunt and uncle's house. I come from
a big family.
At this paticular time my grandparents also had a forien exchane
student staying with them. Her name was Totee and she was from Jamaica.
Totee was always nice to us kids, I guess she had no choice since we
had invaded her room over the holidays.
It was Christmas eve and I was sleeping on a cot next to Totee's
bed while my brother and sister slept on the floor in sleeping bags.
My condition had worsened and I had gotten a high fever, sleeping was
not in my mind. Aunt Totee, which all we kids called her, had woken up
to find me all drench in sweat and tossing and turning on the cot.
Aunt Totee woke up my mother and grandparents and they called the
doctor. He said that I was just breaking the fever and that I would be
alright. In the mean time I would just be uncomfortable probably be
tossing and turning all night. My Aunt Totee said that she would take
care of me so that my mother could catch up on some sleep. This my
mother did knowing that I would be alright.
Aunt Totee brought me into bed with her. She kept me covered in
the blankets and applied a damp wash cloth to my head to keep from
burning up. She did this all night long. So time during the night my
fever broke and I finally fell asleep in Aunt Totee's arms.
This was all told to me by mother and by the rest of the family
so don't think I remembered that myself.
About two years after that my Aunt Totee died. The whole family
was never the same. She had come into our lives as a stranger and
departed as family. My brother and sisters and I still have her pic-
ture in each of our family alblums. We still miss her.
The Christmas after her death was very hard the air about my
grandparents home carried a low key of joy for the holiday. It was
Christmas but it was not quite right. What also added to the dreary-
ness of the holiday was that I had again become very ill. Just as
before I was rushed to the hospital and just as before I was sent
home to spend the holidays with my family.
The only thing different about this time was that there was no
Aunt Totee to care for me, not that my mother did no less, it was
just that my mother and father got divorced and this was the first
Christmas with out him.
Most of us kids stayed in Aunt Totee's old room, I got the bed
one of my sisters got the cot and the rest of the brood slept on the
floor in sleeping bags. As before I was struggling with a high fever
with all the extras sweat and tossing all around. This did not go over
with the kids in the room and all left to sleep else where. All except
my oldest sister, she is about three years older than myself. Becki,
my sister, kept me company all night.
Sometime during the night my fever broke and I fell asleep. The
next morning my sister told me of the strange thing that seem to come
over me during the night. It would seem that I begain to talk as if
having a conversation with someone. She also mentioned that she saw
me tossing for awhile then all of a sudden I stopped. I crunched my
legs up and seemed to snuggle against something unseen.
" Normally", said Becki," I think I would have been afraid but for
some reason", she said," she knew everthing was alright."
Becki had mentioned this to my mother and not a few minutes eailer
I had told my mother that Aunt Totee came to me in the night and made
me feel better. To this day my mother says that it was the stranges
thing she had ever known.
My sister, Becki, has also had another encounter, but that can
wait for another time since this story has taken so long. Sorry about
that I have a tendency to ramble on.
I hope this my have brought you some easy of mind about spirits.
Not all are miscievous and will steal your underwear.

| It's been a few days since anyone has added to this note, but I just
found it and decided to add my story. I live in an old house (1870)
on the second floor. And I, too, have a live-in 'guest.'
It's been 10 years in the same place and she is still around. I have
lots of wonderful stories about her, ranging from stuff she has
taken and returned months later (my diaphram!), to her finding an
earring I lost in a store in another town and bringing it home (I
have a witness for this one!), to her waking me up in the middle of
the night by bouncing on my bed (to let me know I had left the back
door open and unlocked), to parlor games with my friends in attendance.
I wish I knew her name, but she has never responded to the request
to tell me, even though I have left paper, pencils, and scrabble pieces
out for her.
She has a fondness for homemade dolls, chairs pushed close to the
fireplace, Xmas mornings, children and mint green clothing. She does
not like men or fire. If she likes you, she will sit next to you, and
if you are really lucky, she will pat your knee! (She scared my best
friend by doing that the first week I was there, and poor Patti
stayed away for weeks!)
The house was built in 1870 as factory housing for a shoe and boot
factory around the corner. The census of 1880 is alphabetical, not by
street address, so I do not know if I can find her that way. The
town library keeps a file of houses with ghosts, and I was the first
to report the place in which I live. My landlords, who live downstairs,
were skeptical at first when I asked if I had a ghost, but admitted
there were lots of strange things going on -- footsteps, water running,
furniture moving. Now they believe!!
Anyway, that's my tale!!

| Something that's happened just recently...
About a month ago we moved into a new apartment, Angel and I, and our
four cats. At night we only leave one cat out, and she usually sleeps
on Angel's bed, but occasionally she comes over to my bed. And she's
really lightweight, so when she jumps on me, she doesn't always make
a big splash.
The last couple of weeks, right after I go to bed, it feel like she
jumps onto the bed, sometimes I can even feel her moving a bit. But
when I open my eyes, she's still on Angel's bed, and there's nothing
on my bed. But I can still feel something moving, and see the blankets
move when there's enough light from outside. Once I turn on the
bedroom light, it stops.
I thought maybe it was the fans causing the sheets to move a bit, so
I turned the fans off one night, and it still happened. I'm not sure
what it is, but it's a really weird feeling... Kiana doesn't seem
to notice anything at all, but a couple of times the other cats have
seemed to sense something on the bedroom floor, but there was nothing
there.

As in .45 I've also noticed that my Birds will sense my Guest
before I do.
Do animals have a deeper or stronger 6th sense?
I've heard Terri-jo (my macaw) talking to something when I'm
walking up the hall to my door. But she'll stop when I get to
the door, and when she hears my keys she does her usual "Hi Terri"
knowing that's what I'm going to say when I walk in.
One of my Cocktiels often has "nite terrors" where she'll be literally
bouncing off the walls of her cage in the middle of the night totally
scared to death. I have to turn the light on and yell are her to
get her attention and then sit with her for a half an hour to calm
her down when this happens, sometimes it takes me five minutes just to
break the terror and get her attention. This also just started when
I moved to this apartment, I just never really connected it with my
guest until .45 mentioned her cats will sense things..
Also I don't think I connected it, because the first time that it
happened, I found a dead honey-bee on the floor near her cage the
next day, so I assumed she had gotten stung. But it's happened
several times since the first one.
If my birds are sensing a presence, then why would Honey (my cocktiel)
be totally terrified of it, and Terri-jo (my Macaw) not be afraid of
it and want to talk to it. And then Baby (my other cocktiel) doesn't
seem to acknowlege it what-so-ever...?
Weird..
