1629.1 | I SAW THE MOVIE TOO | GUCCI::SMILLER | | Wed Mar 04 1992 11:50 | 8 |
| I saw the movie, and the thing that struck me was, how can you blame
the daughters illness and death with the house? She had a bad heart
and was told to take it easy-which she didn't.
I too found it srange that they never tried to get help through a
medium or priest-anything!

1629.2 | Interview on 11 O'Clock News? | USCTR2::NGRILLO | | Wed Mar 04 1992 12:14 | 21 |
| I started watching the movie myself but unfortunately fell asleep - NOT
that I wanted to! During the movie break (commercials) they had the
commericial for the News At 11. It said that they were going to have
the actual family on the news.
Did anyone see this part? Also, what was the ending?
P.S. I was talking with a couple of friends this morning (they did not
see the movie) but mentioned basically what was going on. One of my
friends lives in Grafton and she told me there are some condos in that
town that are built right next to an Indian Burial Ground. One of her
husband's friends was involved with the building and he said they had
found some bones while digging up the foundation. The supervisor told
them to keep on building and ignore it. From story, some strange
things seem to happen in a couple of the condo's. She told me the
other night there was a fire there too and the fire fighters couldn't
get into the building - she said the ax marks are still on the door.
Next day she looked in the paper to see what happened and the story was
never even mentioned in the news??

1629.3 | Well, since it's not a regular film .... | HELIX::KALLIS | Pumpkins -- Nature's greatest gift | Wed Mar 04 1992 12:51 | 13 |

If this were MOVIES or TV, I'd answer on the other side of a spoiler, but
since this isn't, the ending was that everybody moved out, with the principal
family moving to their other home in Montana. Since I don't know where you
fell asleep, I'm not quite sure where to pick things up.
I did not see the 11:00 PM (local) news followup, but from what I've heard
from those who did see it, it didn't add anything substantive.

A friend of mine watched the news at 11, and two things came
out - the family had at least 4 or 5 relatives who had had
cancer, but in the monvie they said there were none. Also, during
the time they bought this house, there was a VERY low housing
market in Texas, thousands of foreclosures. The theory was offered
that they couldn't afford the house and were trying to get out of
it. I wasn't very convinced, like someone esle said, why didn't
they consult a religious or paranormal expert? The whole story
sounded contrived, `let's throw in a little black ooze, a dead
animal or two, a talking street lamp, and cold chills'.

The family the movie was based on was on Donahue a while back (I was home sick,
or when I was recovering from pregnancy). They didn't seem like imaginative or
intelligent folks. Phil's topic was "people who live in haunted houses"
The street lamp didn't talk, but I recall them saying
something about one of the street lamps.
The daughter with the heart condition didn't have it until after living in the
house, and they may have tried something, but not being Catholic, they didn't
go for that exorcism thing.
I didn't see the movie (just the end, when the daughter died, and they moved out)
so I can't compare it to what they talked about on Donahue.
