This is a form of bodywork, isn't it? If so, you could ask
in CLO::MASSAGE. If I'm wrong, just ignore this.

| You're right, Frederick. Alexander Technique is a form of bodywork.
Mary (p.s. Feldenkrais (the person) was a student of Alexander and
evolved Feldenkrais (technique) from Alexander (technique)...

| The Concord-Carlisle Adult Ed has a course entitled Alexander Technique
which starts Feb 25th and runs 5 weeks. I signed up 'cause I was
interested in finding what the Alexander Technique is.

| I heard something about the Alexander Technique this weekend.
Coincidentally (or is anything really a coincidence?), I met someone
who taught this technique and she told me that it has to do with body
movement to reallign the spine. When I asked if this had to do with the
flow of energy between the chakras, she agreed, although she didn't put
it that way.

| Both Alexander and Feldenkrais "retrain" muscles, presumably
back into original childhood flexibility and positioning (assuming
the child was "normal" musculature-wise.) Bad habits, "bad" emotions,
etc., set up various defense postures, which protect whatever is
supposedly being shielded, but cause compensatory malalignments and
stresses. Therefore, by careful manipulation of the muscles, by
impeccable sensitivity, the areas which are blocked are discovered
and "released." The follow-up then consists of retraining into the
natural or desired movement. Many of those people who have utilized
these techniques have made valuable and even miraculous progress in
well-beingness.
Like everything else, however, it may not be particularly useful
to everyone.
