1527.0. "Anyone want to eat some friendship?" by MISERY::WARD_FR (Going HOME---as an Adventurer!) Tue Aug 27 1991 16:00

I will be in the Boston area from Saturday through the
following Saturday (31st - 7th.) Much of my time has already
been "appropriated" but within that time frame it has been
decided that some of us would be having dinner at a place
(that I am totally unfamiliar with) named the Yangtzee River
(sp?) on Route 10 in Littleton [and I don't even know where
Littleton is ;-) .] This will be taking place at 6 p.m.
on Thursday night the 5th of September.
        So00ooo--since there aren't ever any "official" get-togethers,
etc., here's an opportunity for *one.* And since most of you
are in *that* area and I am in California and haven't got any
plans to re-visit that area for a while (although I plan to
go to Barcelona and perhaps other European sites next year,)
I would enjoy the pleasure of the meeting. If it works for you
to stop by for a hello or dinner, please do. There may be a
few people there from a couple of other notesfiles, but I'm sure
that the natives will be friendly, in any case (especially since
they're likely to be compatriot Digital employees. :-) )
Last year there was a similar dinner (on a Friday) and it
was very nice. This event will hopefully be as pleasant.

In any case, please sign up here or send me mail offline so that
I can get a headcount for the restaurant. Everyone is welcome and
read-only's this is your chance to get to join in.

The Yangtze is located next to LKG2 in Littleton, MA. Take Rt 495
to exit 31, left on rt 110 past LKG and there it is (on the left).

Gosh, I was gonna say less than a 1/2 hour from MKO!!! Hmmm, guess
I need to slow down. ;')

It is a very easy commute (all highway) from MKO and you should have no
problem finding it. Contact me offline, if you need further
information or if you're new to the area perhaps to follow someone or
carpool down. There are usually a couple of people attending from
    Southern NH.

    Hi all,

I am one of those "read only" folks for the most part, but have come
to feel like I know a lot of the people in this file, and I have
learned a lot from this file.

Anyway, has a time been set up for this gathering yet? I'm not 100%
sure I can make it, but I would love to come meet some of the people in
this file, and an opportunity to meet THE Frederick, is almost too good
    to pass up? ;-)

The gathering starts at 6:00 in the lounge. I'll probably make the
reservations for dinner itself to start at 6:30, so people traveling a
distance have time to get there. The earlier time gives folks a chance
to meet and talk a bit beforehand.

I'll make the reservations late Wednesday afternoon, so it would be
nice to have a fairly firm number by then.

    See you all soon,

I'm sorry you can't make it, especially since it's my one
*official* DEJAVU-type party of this year.
The official DEJAVU committee has lots to say on this, however,
so write to your official elected representative *official* and
complain! Let him/her know how you feel! N'est-ce pas?
[;-) The above is tongue-in-cheek, since no one really calls
the shots in here...this is a conference of unique and self-reliant
individualists, so all it takes is for *you* to plan a get-together
whenever and where-ever you suggest and then to propose or state it.
Just set up your own note and see what the response is...it doesn't
take lots of effort to initiate, based on what I've seen. Just
    a little courage and trust. :-) ]

I arrived in Boston last Saturday and experienced the same kind of
weather that I'd left (high temps in the 60's and 70's.) That was
disappointing to me because I was looking forward to experiencing
"hot and muggy." Well, yesterday it finally got to be hot and muggy.
It feels good (Hey, if you don't get a chance to feel this once in
a while and yet you have childhood memories of hot and muggy all the
time--like when I lived in Panama--then it *Can* be missed...;-) )
So today it's wet out there and unlike California when it rains---
    it's WARM! I love it!
Anyway, tonight I will be meeting with some of you at the Yangtze
River (not the one in China but the one in Littleton...:-) )
At this point there are about 2 dozen plus mystery guests plus assorted
drop-ins. Like the weather, this too feels good.

    CAST A DEADLY SPELL
    HBO

"Double, double, toil and trouble." In this engrossing fantasy
thriller, it's 1948, and Los Angeles is spellbound, awash in black
magic. Everybody is a witch or a warlock, unless, of course, they
happen to be a zombie or a gremlin. Everyone, that is, but a
so-hardboiled-he's-petrified private eye named H. Phillip Lovecraft (a
nod to the seminal horror writer). Lovecraft -- the type of guy who
sidles up to the bar to order Bourbon. Show it some water, but be
discreet" -- is played to the nines by Fred Ward. He's hired by a
wealthy man to recover an ancient book of incantations that could spell
    the end of the world.

Not since Ghostbusters has an impending apocalypse been so
entertaining. Just as that film threw the paranormal together with the
comedic, this movie intoxicatingly mixes the supernatural and the pulp
detective genre. Prepare yourself for a healthy dose of Spade and
    sorcery.

The atmosphere and special effects are striking in this film ... One
odd thing: in this exceptionally well done TV movie, the boom mike is
visible in a surprising number of scenes. Must be poltergeists.

the title role in "Henry and June."?

(P.s.) It was nice of you to take time out from your trip to
Nashua from New York to attend the dinner. I enjoyed meeting you--
along with all the others who took the time to attend. As usual,
time was too short to really meet everyone. I won't mention the
"repeats" but I would like to acknowledge Dave Pierson, Talligai,
Barb (the silent noter ;-) ) and the infamous "Y". Thanks to all
of you for a very pleasant evening.

1527.22I had a wonderful time!MR4DEC::COLAIANNIWed Sep 11 1991 10:2728
    Hi All!

I would have written sooner, but I had a little accident Friday, and
messed my arm up pretty bad. I was out Monday, and am just getting
caught up. No broken bones, but deep bruises, and a pretty deep scrape.
I think all the good feelings I got Thursday are making me heal really
quickly!! The doctor was even amazed on Monday at how fast it is
healing! Thanks, even though it was residual! ;-)

I had a GREAT time at the dinner! Much good conversation, and lots of
nice people. It was nice to be able to put faces to some of the names I
    see here.

In case anyone is wondering, as far as I know, Fred didn't prove that
he had that "Firm number" referred to a while back! ;-)

As soon as I actually have something to contribute, I'll start
writing. Unfortunately, most of what I now know, I learned right here!
Guess I'll have to get my butt in gear and get to the library, eh?

Again, it was nice meeting everyone there! I'll be there next time too
if at all possible, whenever that may come about!

    Love,

    re: .22 (Y oh Y)

Sorry about your arm...hope it's back to it's usual real soon.

You missed my firm number? Gee, I'm sorry! Nothing's worse than
a number that can't make up its mind (and sometimes numbers seem
to have a mind of their own, if you know what I mean...;-) )

As for heading into the library...ne plus pas necessaire (or
something like that. :-} ) All it takes is a journey into your
own mind...don't need any numbers at all for that...saves gas, too.

Hi Frederick,
It was my pleasure to get to meet you, have some time to talk *(although the
time was definitely too short) and to exchange hugs. (always the best part).

Look forward to more conversation and more hugs.
