1491.0. "End of the World" by MICKY::SIMPSON () Wed Jun 26 1991 09:36

I had the weirdest dream of my life the other night.

I dreamt that the end of the world was about to happen. I didn't know
how I knew, I just knew. I was telling people and it didn't matter to
me whether they believed me or not as I *knew* it was going to happen.
The "start" of the dream was almost exactly 6 mins to the end of the
world and the "countdown" happened as if in real time. The final
moment came and an almighty thunder storm started and in my dream I
heard the loudest clap of thunder I'd ever heard on which I promptly
woke. I must admit I was scared witless for a while!

There wasn't any storm or loud noises going on outside which could be
attributed to the storm in my dream.

I'm sorry I can't give you any dates or times for this event! But if
it happens you can say you read it here first!

I am fairly optimistic. The end is not in sight for many million years.

For millions of years the world has existed, why must it end now?

I am not proclaiming to be a prophet but it was one of them *real*
dreams. You know, one of them which you are not really sure whether
they were real events in your life, or just your nut doing the wobbly
    on you!

	Jimi,

What would the end of the world be like for you? That is,
the end of "your world" - as in not necessarily the physical earth?

Just something to mull over for yourself - I don't expect an answer
unless you want to - I ain't no analyst!

Perhaps it was the end of one of your inner worlds, just as
dreaming of death can often signify something dying within,
as opposed to an external death. Something ending inside of
you ... and with an ending always comes a new beginning.

    Hi Jimi,

Were you in the vicinity of a thunderstorm recently? If so, did
you feel that all hell was breaking loose? Are you...excuse me,
Carla is floating by on her Magic Carpet - "HI CARLA! How's
tricks?" (She came through last night on a large glazed donut -
I was hoping it would be chocolate-covered tonight) - oh, well...
as I was saying, are you worrying about something? Everyone at
    this facility is!

Your dream may be counting down the six short [minute] days left
until the end of the fiscal year, when the DEC world as you know
it will come to an end. That would explain why so many other peo-
ple are involved in the situation. Mentally, you're already living
in this *new* world. And this is a *real* change that is fast ap-
proaching. That may be why the dream seems so real.

Or, as you said, perhaps your nut is doing the wobbly on you. Even
that could have a rational explanation. Perhaps you've been read-
ing T.S. Eliot's poem "The Wasteland," the last section of which is
called "What The Thunder Said." "Da datta..." - (unfortunately,
the thunder spoke in Sanskrit, which isn't one of my specialities.)

Using that logic the world will *never* end, and in fact will become
    increasingly unlikely to end...

    that too might be true
