I have been contributing regularly in VAXCAT::HOLISTIC conference.  Cindy
Painter has recommended that I duplicate the entries in this conference.



	A form of Yoga called the "Raja Yoga" involves no Yogic exercises.
        It involves use of positive thoughts to face a stressful situation.
        This mental thought process helps one to relax.  Under this topic
        I will try to introduce to you a thought for each day of the week.
        Have a nice thought everyday.

				THOUGHTS
    
    Thoughts are the food of the mind.  A new thought everyday will not be
    fresh food but will provide the necessary nutrition and stimulant 
    needed to keep the mind healthy and enthusiastic about life.  In these 
    days of disruption and chaos, this is important.
    
    Each day has its own 'Special for the day' :
    
    Sunday    - Blissful
    Monday  - Peaceful
    Tuesday - Loveful
    Wednesday - Powerful
    Thursday  - Knowledgeful
    Friday    - Purity
    Saturday  - Merciful
    
    Bliss :
    It is happiness beyond the senses. Beyond the laughter, the merriment.  
    Away from the sways of joys I've known. Not lost in the gentle pulls of 
    the winds, not using the eyes to see that which lightens and brightens, 
    not using the ears to be hypnotised by the lilting music, and not using 
    the mouth to taste the sweetness of the first fruit of the season.
    Rather, sitting alone with myself; quietly....silently....thoughts 
    turned within.  Listening to the sound of silence.  Then, thoughts 
    turned beyond, beyond the physical, in tune with the spiritual - the
    peaceful, the pure.
    
    Peace :
    It may seem useless to talk about peace when all around us we see a 
    continual state of 'peacelessness'. It is this state that forces on us 
    the necessity of finding our own source of peace to draw upon to live 
    from.
    Consider the flowers. They too live in this peaceless environment.  
    They too have to endure the pollution and decay of the world of nature. 
    Yet, wherever they are found - by the congested roadside, near the 
    swamps, in the desert, amid the thorns and sometimes even on the dung 
    hill- they are eternally beautiful, gay and fragrant.  It is not by 
    chance that flowers are given on every occasion, even the most 
    sorrowful. Flowers call forth images of peace and tranquillity; it is 
    their nature.  
    We are also like flowers.  We are the flowers of the garden of God. In 
    this worldwide garden of everyday hustle and bustle we too are 
    threatened with polluted and degraded circumstances.  Being flowers, we 
    are expected to live in our natural state of peace and spread our 
    fragrance all around us.
    When we realise that the original nature of our soul is that of peace, 
    we can combine with God- who is the Ocean of Peace - and so become the 
    embodiment of peace...a living, thinking flower.
    
    Love :
    It is indeed most powerful force.  It can take us to great heights and 
    leave us light and airy. Yet, it has been the most abused and misused 
    force. Many degraded things pass for love.
    There is a song which states, 'What the world needs now is love, sweet 
    love'. What the world actually needs is an accurate and correct 
    understanding of love. True love is based on understanding, mutual 
    trust and respect, not simply on emotions.
    Love is being in balance, that is, in harmony with the self, God and 
    our fellow man.  Love is selflessness. Love is not an emotional state 
    confined to whims and fancies, but a transcendent state of 
    consciousness which goes beyond the bodily forms. Love has nothing to 
    do with bodies; love dwells in the soul. We must allow love to flow out 
    and around us. By allowing our love to flow, we become moistened and 
    remain forever fresh, attractive and healthy.
    Without love, all of life's treasures are locked away from our vision 
    and experiences, for indeed "Love is the Key".
    
    Power :
    Gaze at the waves, with caps of white, standing tall like snow-capped 
    mountains. They rise up and move forward with crowns. Crowns of Purity
    and Power, Majestic Masters.
    See their motion: relentless, unaffected by objects in their path - 
    whether dull or glittering, large or small. Tireless, they know not the 
    word 'obstacles'.
    Power is being confident that though a few battles may be lost, the 
    great war will be won - Conquerors. Determined that although sometimes 
    the goal seems far away and oh so high, determined to reach the goal. 
    nothing attracts or distracts - Strong-willed. Being fearless; no weak 
    thoughts of doubt. Having strength and using it to face, without 
    wincing, the impurities within and without; strength to destroy them -
    Brave Warriors. 
    
    Knowledge :
    Education is essential in order to make a living in this physical 
    world, but in order to make living a success, in order to experience 
    every moment of life as new, every day as a day of upliftment and 
    blessing, and to have lasting peace, firstly, knowledge of the self is 
    of utmost importance.
    'Know thyself' we are told; and to this end many an orphan has made his 
    long and arduous search to find, or even to come across just the 
    slightest trace of his/her physical parents. Furthermore , men have 
    travelled far and wide amidst strange faces and in far distant places 
    in an extremely costly search for their roots.
    Today, however , the children of the world have become orphans. They 
    have forgotten their parents and have forgotten themselves. Knowledge 
    of the self as an immortal, spiritual being , is Truth. To delve into 
    spiritual matters and experience the self is indeed the highest 
    education.
    
    Purity :
    We were once all peaceful and pure, but what does being pure mean, and 
    how did we act?
    Impurities are chains that bind, devils that make us vicious, and 
    snakes that make us so senseless it is as if we are asleep, 
    ignorant,unconscious. Purity sets us free. It gives us the keys to 
    knowledge, peace, happiness, power and God.
    Purity is so precious, so rare, so powerful, we have to die for it. We 
    have to destroy the old self, the old vices that are so much part of 
    us. Lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego.
    Purity's light is such that we are not confined by boundaries of 
    colour,sex,race,religious beliefs, etc. but we can see far beyond and 
    experience each and every human being as our friend. Its might is  such 
    that the angry and vicious fires of passion are extinguished and in its 
    place pure cool love glows. Its right is that we can come really close 
    to God.
    
    Mercy :
    To the world, the murderer condemned to die has no mercy. To the 
    murderer, the world has no mercy; and so the long, strong chain of 
    man's inhumanity to man continues. It is the story of one judging one's 
    fellow-being and extracting what one thinks is the price to be paid for 
    an action or non-action. There is always a price to pay.
    Nowadays, it is felt that to show mercy is a sign of weakness in 
    character. Not true. Rather it is a sign of great strength., vision and 
    wisdom. To be merciful is to show an accurate understanding of the 
    situations in life which go way beyond the facts and evidences as they 
    are presented visibly. To be merciful indicates an elevated 
    consciousness, so high, that in spite of the disparities and bad 
    actions, we can have the strength to say "I understand and I forgive".
    It is indeed a most sublime quality. When we live constantly from our 
    source of mercy we are beyond danger.

Mon  Peace
What was the future happens now, what happens now becomes the past - so
why worry.

Tues  Love
Every situation in life must be faced, so why not face it with love?

Wed  Power
If you realise that everyone is an individual with his own unique part to play,
then the power of tolerance is easy to develop.

Thur  Knowledge
If you spend an hour in worthwhile action there is 1000 fold gain.  If you waste
an hour in useless action there is 1000 fold loss.

Fri  Purity
Relationships based on falsehood are like houses built with their foundations
in mud.

Sat  Mercy
If someone is annoyed with you and he is saying bad things, at that moment to
question why he's saying such things is like pouring oil on a fire.

Sun  Bliss
Freedom starts in the mind not by cutting ropes.

	Enablers are the worst enemies of the very people they love the most. - Carrie R. Enablers are those of us who take the responsibility to protect other people from pain. If someone near us feels down or unhappy, we believe it is our job to make them feel better. Despite our good intentions, our enabling has a negative side: In protecting others from pain, we also shield them from a marvelous teacher and motivator--experience. We prevent them from taking responsibility and from living with the consequences of their decisions. When enablers, even motivated by love, gallop onto the scene, they de- prive their loved ones of the motivation they might need to make some changes. Recovery requires change, and change often begins with a conversion experience. Conversion experiences can be rooted in pain. If we enablers are always there to cushion the fall, how are our loved ones going to meet the concrete? Our own growth might be due to those who loved us enough to let us experience the painful consequences of our mistakes. We can pass this loving detachment on to others. I think so... In everything there is balance...I believe it is a wise man who knows when and when not to interfere, to guide someone. I also believe that charity at the wrong time is detrimental. Personally, I thank the heavens for those kind souls put their hand out to me and restored my faith in humanity, just when I needed it. The good they did far outweighed the bad imhho ;-) -Brian

	re: .87, .88 Yes, there is a point at which the choices are to allow the reality to go as it's headed or to make the reality be different (consciously intervening, so-to-speak.) The question that comes up then is whether that has been a positive choice or whether it has been a manipulation. My answer is to make the best choice I know and then go for it. That is, if someone is drowning, it may very well be their karma to drown. ON the other hand, it may be that their karma is having YOU come along and save them. In regards to enabling, perhaps this isn't apparent initially. So, initially, one can offer to help. Once it can be determined (making the best choice possible) that the person is manipulating (whether from "strength" or from weakness) or is into a martyred journey, THEN you can decide that you "won't play" or won't buy into their drama. We do NOT have to be sucked into other people's drama...you CAN get off the gameboard. Enabling, as the term could be applied here, would no longer be operant. Frederick

	The Black Door There's a Middle Eastern story of a spy who had been captured and sentenced to death by a general of the Persian army. The general had fallen upon a strange and rather bizarre custom. He permitted the condemned person to make a choice. He could either face the firing squad or pass through the black door. As the moment of execution drew near, the general ordered the spy to be brought before him for a short, final interview, the primary purpose of which was to receive the answer of the doomed man to the question: "Which shall it be - the firing squad or the black door?" This was not an easy question, and the prisoner hesitated, but soon he made it known that he much preferred the firing squad. Not long thereafter, a volley of shots in the courtyard announced the grim sentence had been fulfilled. The general, staring at his boots, turned to his aide and said, "You see how it is with men; they will always prefer the known way to the unknown. It is characteristic of people to be afraid of the undefined. And yet I gave him his choice." "What lies behind the black door?" asked the aide. "Freedom," replied the general, "and I've known only a few men brave enough to take it." Like so many stories out of the Middle East, this one carries a pretty hefty message. The first is, of course, that we will often choose the familiar, even if it's undesirable, over the unknown, which might be a wonderful opportunity. And second, that few people are brave enough to choose freedom. I'm not saying we should reject the familiar - not by any means. But we should question the familiar. Just because it's familiar doesn't make it good, best, or the best thing to do. When you heard the story about the black door, you probably said to yourself, "I would have chosen the black door. I would have had nothing to lose; the firing squad was certain death." And most people would say the same thing. But actually faced with the choice, would you? How many doors to freedom have we passed up during our lives because we tend to cling so fiercely to the familiar? How many times have events come about that we worried and stewed about - even thought calamitous at the time - and that later proved to be blessings in disguise? Each of them was a black door through which we passed to greater freedom. But at the time, we would have chosen to keep things as they were if we had been given the chance. At any rate, it's one of those stories that makes for interesting discussion at the dinner table, or with friends. Tell the story of the black door, and see what sort of reaction you get. It's good to remember, if we can, that it is often those things we worry about and most fear that turn out to be blessings in disguise.

	Yesterday's answer has nothing to do with today's problem. - Stu B. As little kids, many of us learned to disconnet from pain rather than stay attached. We separated ourselves from the action around us in order to survive. Over time, what we did is what we became--separate. Having almost literally burned the bridge between us and others, we see now that we are stranded. The isolation that was meant to keep anyone from getting at us also keeps anyone from getting to us. We need to rebuild the bridge. People, like islands, need ways to see and reach and touch hands over all that separating water. Making connections is the only way. Unless we can hear each other singing and crying, unless we can comfort each other's failures and cheer each other's victories, we are missing out on the best that life has to offer. The only real action takes place on the bridge between people. Today, I ask my Higher Power for the courage to build another bridge. 	I don't have to feel strong all the time to take care of myself. I can handle making a mistake. It's no big deal. It's part of living. I will love and cherish the child inside me and Never, never let it go. I am with the people I need to be with -- for today. Controlling keeps me from enjoying other people, And it blocks their growth. I will know when the time has come to let go. Other people can't change how I feel. Only I can change how I feel. It's okay to be who I am. I can relax and enjoy myself and other people. Anger helps identify problems, But it usually doesn't help solve them. I don't need everybody's approval. I only need my own approval. It's normal to resist affirmations and other positive thoughts, But I can be patient. I don't have to give up. Today I'm going to give life a chance to happen. I'm going to give myself an opportunity to enjoy it. I have a right to feel anger when I need to, And a responsibility to deal appropriately with my anger. I don't have to do more today than I can reasonably do. Sometimes we grow out of relationships. Sometimes we grow out of organizations. Sometimes we grow out of jobs. 	A Special Valentine Day's Message Everybody wants to be loved. That is a wrong beginning. And it starts because the child, the small child, cannot love, cannot say anything, cannot do anything, cannot give anything - he/she can only get. A small child's experience of love is of getting - getting from the mother, getting from the father, getting from the brothers, sisters, getting from guests, strangers, but always getting. So the first experience, deep in his/her unconscious settles - that he/she has to get love. But the trouble arises because everybody has been a child, and evrybody has the same urge to get love; and nobody is born in any other way. So all are asking, "Give us love," and there is nobody to give, because the other person is also brought up in the same way. 	Dear All, I am helping a friend to recover from her depression. She reacted very positively to the following messages. I hope you find them useful as well. regards, Girish THE PASSING PHASES OF LIFE'S TROUBLES. STOP FOR JUST A MOMENT AND SEE HOW FORTUNATE YOU ARE. Any grave situation that occurs should be considered as a passing phase in this Eternal World Drama of Life, where each scene has its own important significance. If I do not remain aware of this, there is likely to be much confusion and even unhappiness within my life. Let me be fully conscious that in each situation there lies some degree of benefit even if it is only the level of learning a lesson. But then, is it not true that to learn means to acquire knowledge, and is it not said that knowledge is wealth? If I am seeing only the negative aspects of something strange which has ocurred, I am likely to experience sorrow. I might even be drawn to tears and grief. This will of course trap me in a net of self pity whereby I am neither willing nor able to discover what the hidden benefit of that scene may be. Yes, it is true that sometimes the benefit can be deeply hidden, but quite often it is easily apparent. All I need to do is maintain this positive attitude and keep my eyes free from tears and my vision focused on the positive side of the fence. This will definitely save you time, energy and temper. In the hectic hustle and bustle of living, so much is overlooked and so many of our actions are automatic that it is as if nothing special ever happens. We awaken in the morning. Some of us can open our eyes and look out at the world. Some of us can hear the birds sweetly singing. Some of us can say, "good Morning" to the world with our voice and some can get out of the bed healthy and strong. For some, the hustle and bustle starts early because the children have to be off to school and we have to be off to a job. For others the hustle and bustle is in the mind, how to earn the money for food and where next to look for the job. For those not in their homes, but in hospitals and institutions, thoughts of returning home and rehabilitation crowd the mind. Nothing stays the same. The situation we find ourselves in today can change in the twinkling of the eye and the freedoms we took granted can disappear. Do you ever stop to count your blessings to see how fortunate you are? Yes we know that we should do better and it is indeed a healthy thing to seek progress and improvement. But will there be improvement if I simply sit and moan in a corner? Most certainly not! Every now and then during the day, just stop for a moment and see the value of whatever you have, regardless of how little it may seem to you. To someone less fortunate your little is quite a lot. Why not value what you have? Who knows how long you will have it? When you look at a glass containing water, feel not how much empty it is but feel how much full it is.

	Dear All, As I celebrate my birthday today, I wish to share the thoughts in my mind here. regards, Girish A Birthday Wish for Self. Just for today I will be happy. This assumes what Abraham Lincoln said is true, that "most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Happiness is from within; it is not a matter of externals. Just for today I will try to adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my family, my job, my friends and my luck as they come and fit myself to them. Just for today I will take care of my body. I will exercise it, care for it, nourish it, not abuse it or neglet it, so that it will be perfect machine for my bidding. Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration. Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways. I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out. I will do at least two things I don't want to do, as William James suggests, just for exercise. Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress as becomingly as possible, talk slow, act courteously, be liberal with praise, criticise not at all, nor find fault with anything and not try to regulate nor improve anyone. Just for today I will try to live through this day only, not to tackle my whole life problems at once. I can do things for twelve hours that would appal me if I had to keep them for a lifetime. Just for today I will have a programme, I will write down what I expect to do every hour. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it, I will eliminate two pests, hurry and indecision. Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. In this half hour sometimes I will think of God, so as to get a little more perspective into my life. 	As an afterthought... Recently I had a car crash (noone hurt) and wasn't sure what would happen with the other driver, my insurance, the possibility of getting a bank loan for a new car, the situation with the police, etc.. I could very easily have worried myself sick and allowed myself to sink lower and lower, seeing potential(likely) problems everywhere. Instead I tries to adopt much of the attitude/technique that I feel Girish has tried to promote. I stood back and analysed whether I could do anything positive or not. After getting advise from a solicitor, there was no more positive action I could take. It was then that I applied the approach of 'No Action'. I didn't let any worries get to me, I enjoyed the other things in my life and had a good time. When I finally heard back from the other driver, then I could take action again. It was amazing how well things turned out in the end by not taking any action. With the right attitude/approach things do turn out the best!
