| I don't mean to sound negative but I can't help wondering if the
Australian Aboriginal community are aware of and approve of Marc
Nolans works ?
The plight of the Australian Aborignal is a sad one (much like what's
happened to most ancient indigenous cultures and peoples I guess).
Hopefully Mr Nolans efforts are a responsible and sanctioned effort to
tell the story of The Dreamtime and bring about a greater awareness of
this delicate culture.

| Re: .1
Mark Nolan is one of the few white men that actually were accepted by the
aborigines. He spent several years living with them as part of their tribe,
and it was there that he learned the Didgeridoo. From my (limited)
understanding of the Aboriginees, for a white man to be accepted as
a member of a tribe and allowed to live with them and learn all about the
Aboriginal way-of-life this is extremely rare. He was trained by a
Wirrinum (Aboriginal Shaman) in the Didgeridoo and the healing practices
of the Aboriginees - which is also extremely rare for a white man.
I do believe that part of his reason to do a U.S. tour is to give people a
better understanding of the Aboriginal culture and religious belief system.

Didgeridoo?
I always wondered what that was, starting with that Australian
song from 20 years ago, "Tie Me Kangaroo, Down." Now maybe I can
figure the song out.

| Tucson, AZ USA synthesist Steve Roach just came out (on the Celestial
Harmonies label) with a tape/CD that includes a bunch of didgeridoo music
he recorded on location in OZ, and used with permission. The didgeridoo is
lots more fun than his overdubbed synth parts. Sorry, I forget the
title, but it's his latest release.
I really don't think I'd care to listen to an entire album with only
didgeridoo on it. I'm unaware of such an album.

Thanks for the posting, Linda. I'm going to try and make it.
I was down in Australia a couple of years ago and became quite
interested in the Dreamtime. Then one day while in a bookstore there,
I spotted a book entitled "The Secret Of Dreaming" by Jim Poulter, and
purchased it. I used it in a Unitarian summer service last year and
one woman was so impressed by the book that she wrote to the author
and ordered a couple of copies - one for herself, and one for the
religious education program at the church. It is essentially their
creation story. The last few paragraphs in the book are:
"The story of The Secret Of Dreaming thus attempts to convey
the core concept of Aboriginal religion, that man has inherited
a divine consciousness, and with that goes sole responsibility
for the care of the real world.
The essential truth is that the Spirit of Life rests in the
Land, and that Man is its caretaker."
I felt a pull toward the Aboriginal culture while in Australia - it's
incredibly fascinating. However it is overshadowed by the tremendous
injustices the community continues to suffer.
