| Tracy -
Many of the psychics that I have worked with have used psychometry
along with other methods of channeling to tap into the subject's
vibration. It's a fairly common method of divination, not unlike
giving a bloodhound a whiff of a victim's clothing before the search.
(Although I don't know many psychics who would find the analogy
flattering.) :-)
What exactly are you looking for?

David Letterman (of "Late Night With" fame) used to do
a series he called the Psychic Gourmet. A stage hand (usually a difer-
ent one each time) would, before the show, hide the ingredients to a
recipe. The psychic gourmet would find the hidden ingredients and
then prepare the meal. He (the gourmet would hold the arm of the
stage hand and find the articles through psycometry. Could there
be other explanations? sure!

I have been told I possess the ability, but am untrained at using it.
One of my roommates does it much better, almost to the point where the
personality of the previous owner "channels" through him - I guess the residual
aura contains enough information to alter his psychy (sp?) temporarily.
My uncle had a friend who could describe an owner, and get a little "prophecy"
as well out of an item.

| It is a common enough talent that there is probably some documentation
out there. It's done by a lot more people than Cold Fusion is, that's
for sure. I've never done it, but then I've never seen Austrailia,
or done a triple twisting full gainer either, and I think they're
possible. :-) Sorry, weird mood lately.
I did find a lot of verified 'documentation' about people
who have a forboding sense upon entering certain rooms or touching
certain objects used in crimes, and of which they theoretically didn't
know the true history. However, the researchers knew the history
and so of course telepathy was considered an alternative explanation.
kind regards,

David Letterman's psychic may not be psychic at all. He may just
be very sensitive to the involuntary manifestations of the stage
hand. This is similar to the technic that `The Amazing Randi' uses.
He says that it doesn't involve being psychic at all. Gurdjieff
discusses how to develop this talent in one of his books. You just
uses a guessing game with a ouija type board. One person holds the
planchette and thinks of a letter. The other person hold onto his
hand and passes it over the board attempting to feel any change
in the hand.

Yes, I think that is a legitimate pheomenon, but quite different from
psychometry.
I did a mentalism act briefly where I used that technique,
and it is a matter of acute observational and touch sensitivity.
I believe the sensitivity required for true psychometry is also largely
kinesthetic (by 'feel') but much more internally focused.

Given Letterman's penchant for spoof and send-ups, don't
you think that he's just joshing us?

Yes Joel, it is entirely possible that David Letterman
is just joshing us. I did allow for that in my reply (I thought). My
personal explanation is that the Psychic Gourmet was probably touch
sensitive to the stage hands arm flexations. A truer example might have
been if the P.G. had held the stagehands shoe or some other inanimate
personal object of the stagehand.

About Psychometry I have used this many times in the past,(being
psychic myself) it is used quite alot mainly to doost a weak link with
your sitter or to make a link with someone who is not there.I once was
given an object by a man who was trying to trick me (so he thought)this
object was a like some black wood.
After picking up imformation about the people who had touched this
object I started to recieve the true infomation. I got a sharp pain in
my lower face also feelings of being able to rotate my head all the way
round. I also new that I had been berried under thick clay for many
years and I was surrounded with jewlls.
After giving this information this man was the colour of chalk and
said it was a bone off a saxon man which was dug up two years
previous,I had described it perfectly.
You can see Psychometry helps you see, feel, hear etc the whole seen.

| Hi Richard,
Thank you for your reply, I am still interested in this subject.
If I may ask, do you get these feelings/sensations/info/awareness with
everyhting you touch and or pick up, or do you have to concentrate on
the object? Are you able to block out this awareness at will?
Any other interesting objects you've dealt with, interesting histories?

Tracey,
Hi! From what I have seen of people with any amount of psychometry (including
myself), it is kind of like one of your senses (hearing, smell), but you
learn to block or filter (you can't totally turn it off). If you have the skill,
but are not accustomed to using it, it takes concentration to "find" the
places inside yourself where you know the information, but with practice, it
is easier.
Think about the fact that a newborn can see and hear and smell, but has no
way of knowing what is seen or heard until it is explained in some way. This
is how I have experienced a lot of the psychic skills in myself - "feeling"
something, but not certain of the meaning until there is some kind of
feed back or explanation.

One of the most astounding examples of psychometric ability is/was
(I don't know if he's still alive) Peter Hurkos. Several excellent
books have been written about him. He has been known to find a lost
object by handling a letter written to him by the person who lost it.
Having lost something which has enormous sentimental value to me, this
aspect of psychometry is very interesting to me right now.
