There are four components of the "self." They are the physical
(body,) emotions (feelings,) mental (thoughts,) and spiritual (psychic
or intuitive.) Two of these parts are presently immortal yet none of
them is "wrong" or "right." They just "are." Any important and
considered decision would be best made by weighing all the components,
not just jumping to one. E.g., should you engage in a sexual encounter
with someone you just meet? How does the body feel? ("yes, yes!")
What does the intellect say? ("It wouldn't be right for me knowing
this person as little as I do.") What does your "heart" say? ("Gosh,
this person makes me feel so loving.") And what does your intuition
say? ("In my guts, it feels wrong to do this.") We look at each of
the four and then weigh them. Where do you wish to lend your trust?
To your mind, to your heart, to your body? Herein is where decisions
are made. Herein is where with practice one can learn which parts
tell a truth we can understand or believe ("when I think of her/him
I get a painful knot in my stomach.") Only the person making the
    decision can determine this.

There is a difference between "gut feel" and training. Sometimes the
voice that we hear is our mother's voice... (don't do this, don't do
that... or something TERRIBLE will happen).

Know thyself. Know what is baggage and what is you.

| | Study a card in the Tarot called, "The Lovers". Read the symbols
this way: The male represents the conscious, the female the
subconscious, and the angel the superconscious. The female looks
to the angel, and the male looks to the female. But a potential
"snag" in the flow is the snake (imagination), positioned strategically
    behind the female (subconscious).

The imagination is capable of delivering the same kinds of messages
(gut feeling) as the Superconscious, but are usually "false alarms",
or just "for the fun of it".

    Peace,
    Richard

My experience has been that when I'm "balanced" my intuitive feelings
(gut-feelings) are very accurate. When my internal balance is hosed
(i.e. I'm weirded out about something or other) my intuitive feelings
are more are unpredictably inaccurate/accurate. (Since I've moved
to California my intuitive feelings are incredibly accurate. ;-) )

The other thing I've discovered is that flashbacks from my past
sometimes feel just the same as intuitive warnings - which makes sense
at some level because the nature of the flashback is that you are there
in the situation, so if it was fearful and gruesome, the fearful
apprehension will return. I am still overjoyed that I've figured that
    one out.

How can you tell whether these 'gut feelings' were wrong? The only way
to tell is if you had some mechanism to tell you how things would have
turned out had you gone ahead and done things the other way.
Trust your inner self, things would have probably turned out much worse
if you had not followed your 'heart'.

| | Most of my "gut" feelings end up taking me in an inappropriate
direction. Generally, if i ignore my feelings and act (making sure i
don't 'React') my actions are generally appropriate for the situation.
Maybe I didn't know how to listen to my "gut" feelings, but they got me
into trouble more times than they didn't. (;'> Actually I think it
was my ego telling me that the feelings were indeed appropriate even
when they weren't. And I think that this is where the problem lies:
sometimes our own desires get in the way of knowing our real feelings
about something and we end up confusing what we want with what we
really feel about a given situation.
