| Certain dream themes come up over and over for many different people.
This is one of them.
This dream is one of the most common ones for college educated people.
My impression is that it is *more* common for people who were good
about going to classes, etc.
I personally used to have this dream fairly regularly. I eventually
grew out of it.
My guess is -- and this is only a guess -- that somewhere down in your
subconscious you wired a basic "ethic": its important to go to class or
you won't know enough to pass the exam. And the fact is -- you are
*not* going to classes. Result: a minor internal conflict which
surfaces in this dream.
(From your brief description, you have a fairly mild version. As I and
others dream it, since I hadn't gone to class I didn't realize that
they changed classrooms and hence the location of the final exam. My
only chance -- and that is a very, very slender one -- is to take the
exam and maybe, by incredible good fortune, I'll luck into a passing
grade. But I can't find where they are giving it! So I wander the
halls trying to find the right room, not even sure what the subject
is and knowing that after this one, there is another exam for another
subject which I also didn't attend the classes for).

| I used to have a similar dream but it involved having to go back to high school
for some reason. The last time I had it I was wandering the halls looking for
my classroom when I realized I was dreaming. I said to myself, "I don't have
to dream this anymore" and walked out the front door of the school and down the
street. I haven't had the dream since. Maybe you could attempt to do
something similar next time you have the dream to break the cycle.

| Re.0 (Dream of not going to classes)
I've had a similar dream in the past as well, but it hasn't been around
lately.
I think mine was tied to not living up to the standard that someone
else had set for me. It's as if you work really, really hard, but
there is always one thing that you inadvertantly left out or forgot to
do and subsequently get nailed on by someone. When I kicked the
'someones' out of my life and started living by my *own* standard,
the dream went away. Took a lot of work though, since three of these
'someones' were my parents and my now ex-husband. Now my life is
filled with people who accept me as I am.

1271.4 | Relax, id said. | REGENT::BROOMHEAD | Don't panic -- yet. | Tue Jun 05 1990 13:43 | 8 |
| Here's the classical (Freudian) explanation:
This is an anxiety dream. In it, you are failing to do something
which you DID ACTUALLY DO. It is your subconscious's bizarre way
of reassuring you that this impending <whatever> is also going to
turn out all right.

1271.5 | count me in too! | SASE::SOULARD | Here Kitty Kitty...--meow? | Tue Jun 05 1990 16:58 | 19 |
| Count me in! I have this dream too, but it is high school. I find
there is a midterm or some other important exam I must take. I forget
where the room is. I had only attended the class a couple of times yet
the teacher never turned me in. I hung around with a group of kids who
occasionally go to class. We cut school and drive around the beach.
Then I discover I must take this test to graduate. I roam the halls
looking for my class. I can't even open my locker to get my book to
study because I forget the combination. My friends say forget it,
let's go. So we do!
Actually I was basically an above average student, seldom cut class or
school, was on the cheerleading squad. So go figure. I just enjoy the
dream, (yesterday was my 12 year annivesary from graduating high
school) it's kind of neat to be a teenager again, I didn't have a care
in the world back then. I think it's fun to dream, I usually remember
at least 3... bits and pieces. some stay with me all day, so I record
them....

| Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can't believe how much each of
you said is a possibility. I'm going to look more closely at how
I run my group and make some changes. You people are GREAT!

1271.7 | Me too! | BUSY::NPEASLEE | | Thu Jun 07 1990 13:20 | 12 |
| I've had this dream too! In the dream I'm roaming around the corridors
in an old mill building at the U. of Lowell trying to find the class.
I wander and wander and wander but I can't find the room where the
exam is being held. I've had this dream since graduation (about
10+ years ago). Alittle while ago I had a slight variation where
I was standing in the school's registrar's office asking if I had
graduated, they looked in my file and said they had no information
but then when I gave them my married name, they said, "Oh, yes we
have your file." Since that dream, I have only dreamed the other
one once or twice.
