1252.0. "TWIN PEAKS" by CPDW::ROSCH (Ray Rosch VRO6-2/B6 273.5710) Mon Apr 30 1990 18:59

    In TWIN PEAKS there is considerable symbolism scattered throughout...
    I'm particularly intrigued with the 'playing card' symbolism. Is it
    possible that Lynch has taken a set of symbolism from a
    sect/religion/whatever intact and used it?

    Anything is possible, of course, but, having seen several of his films,
    I've been struck by his creative, and highly visual means of telling
    a story. He is very much the individualist, so I doubt that he would
    incorporate any belief system intact, but his own.

    Lynch's background is as a painter, which shows in strong visual imagery
    that he uses.

    I too have been taken with the imagery used by Lynch and Frost, the
    other director. Given their attention to detail and recurring themes I
    have to agree with .0 that it is likely they are drawing on some sets
    of ideas or beliefs which may be in their own experiences as well. Can
    any of the Dejavu Noters validate any of the images used in the "dream
    sequence" at the end of episode 4 for example ? Thanks.
1252.3Not much help, but...POBOX::FREICHELSWed May 09 1990 11:4511
    I recently did a research project on "Twin Peaks" for one of my classes
    at school. I did not, however, find any information that led me to
    believe that they (Lynch and Frost co-write, co-direct, and co-produce
    the program)were using real life experiences. I found it very
    interesting how they came up with the characters - they "built" the
    town first, and then created the characters. Sorry I couldn't be of
    more help. I, personally really enjoy the show. It's so different
    from anything else on TV.

    If it helps:

    The current (6-12 May) TV Guide has several articles on Twin Peaks.
