    Eggs and Easter:

    The time which has been associated with Easter also has been ssociated
    with various pre-Christian rites involving fertility, birth, _re_birth,
    and renewal.  The egg is, of course, a symbol of life-to-begin;
    the Christian lamb symbolism is obvious. Rabbits (bunnies) are
    also fertility/birthing symbols.

    Note that many holidays take on traditions outside their precise
    meaning (Christmas symbols are mostly nonChristian; but we could
    talk for hours on that); occasionally, the diverse-background sometomes
    is synergistic, symbolically.

	The exchange of colored and elegantly decorated eggs in springtime
predated Easter by hundreds of years. Ancient Egyptians and Greeks, to
whom the egg symbolized birth and resurrection, placed them in tombs and
on graves.
