The following request from Dr. Ian Stevenson, an investigator of such phenomena as apparent reincarnation memories appeared in the most recent issue of the American Society for Psychical Research Newsletter (Autumn, '89 -- they're a bit behind in their publication schedule). Dr. Stevenson is known for his thoroughness and rigor, and a number of his books (e.g., Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation) have been recommended elsewhere in this conference. Anyone with information for Dr. Stevenson should contact me. Dr. Stevenson fails to make this explicit, but anonymity is, of course, guaranteed. Note that cases which do not fit into the five specific categories are still of interest, as long as there is some clear veridical aspect to them. Topher ------------------------------------------------------------------------ INFORMATION WANTED: VERIDICAL APPARITIONS I am eager to learn about one or more veridical apparitional experiences [this means that an "apparition", which need not be explicitly visible, somehow communicated unknown information which could be confirmed independently -- TC]. They do not have to be recent, but it would be preferable that living persons or written records be available to corroborate the percipient's telling of his or her experience before it was verified and also to confirm independently the verified details. For the purpose of this investigation, the following types of death-coinciding apparitional experiences would qualify: 1. The apparitional figure conveyed to the percipient information about a death that was neither expected nor inferable; or 2. The apparitional experience conveyed information about the circumstances of the death (or perhaps the burial) that were unknown and not inferable to the percipient. For example, the percipient might have seen the appearing person in completely unfamiliar clothes which corresponded to unusual clothes in which the appearing person had been buried. Apparitional cases that are not death-coinciding are also of interest. Experiences of these types may include: 3. Postmortem apparitions in which the appearing figure conveyed information to the percipient not normally known or inferable, such as where valuable receipts had been hidden; or 4. Reciprocal cases in which a person having an out-of-body experience was simultaneously perceived by another percipient at another place where the first percipient seemed to travel during his or her OBE experience, or 5. Apparitions of living persons seen at a distance from their physical location, who are not in a crisis situation. (A few cases of this type are already on record and more may occur than are known about and reported by investigators.) The persons concerned in such cases should be willing to be interviewed during a thorough investigation of the cases.

Here in Geneva, Switzerland, I've attended a conference given by "Pere Francois Brune" in which he was explaining and letting us listen to RECORDING of voices from dead Entities. They were delivering very interesting messages about the style of life over there... Pere Francois Brune has also written a very interesting book called "Les Morts nous parlent" A complete "new" area which sounds promising !!! Kind regards, Albert. | |||||

RE: .1 (Albert) This doesn't sound like the kind of more-or-less spontaneous apparition which Dr. Stevenson is looking for, but I would like to know more details. Is this the Raudive technique? I.e., something like (there are many variations) a radio tuned between stations is taped or a tape recorder with the input gain turned up but the microphone removed is run in record mode? If so you should know that it turns out that frequently when the spirits are at their most unambigously intellegible, they are announcing the call-letters of radio stations, giving the names of popular records, or discussing current events. Those who honestly believe in this phenomena find rationalizations for distinguishing the clearly discrediting "voices" from what they view as the "legitimate" ones, and present their results without these "misleading" "spurious" voices. While I don't think much of Raudive voices, I am very much interested in hearing about your experience. Even if this was Raudivian, perhaps you can tell me something that will change my mind about it, or which I'll someday put together with something else and change my mind. Topher |
