I would like to ask what people in this conference know about alternative therapies. I would like to join a group to deal with some emotional blocks that will also support? or continue to grow? or hmm that uses spiritualism, meditation, etc. with counseling to realize and release blocks. I have just started looking into all the possibilities and reading pamphlets and quite frankly, I am overwhelmed! I realize everyone has different needs, and preferences and will have to do alot of my own investigating, and trial an error. I am trying to use this note as a resource to get a better understanding of some of the processes used in these alternative therapies. For instance, I've read a few pamphlets on rebirthing, that describes using breathing exercises, release past emotinal blocks, somes blurbs indicate along with counseling? Some don't mention counseling? If you go thru Earthstar you can find an exhaustive list of alternative therapies, which from thier explanations are not very clear to me what is involved. (I can't spell most of the other ones or remember the specific name ;-) like Riekki?). So before I start calling all this places, and being really confused. I thought I'd tap the knowledge in this conference for: descriptions, expierences, perceptions whatever feedback people have on alternative therapy. I live in the Boston area. Alternative may not be the correct word, I mean alternative in the sense of combining spiritualism with counseling to work on the inner self, as opposed to a straight counseling session. Thanks Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, Interesting that you should bring this up. To share from my personal experience, I have worked with astrology for a number of years and went to astrologers for readings. I also went to psychologists for counseling. I always had the desire to find someone who could combine the two and work with me both spiritually and psychologically. I eventually found that person and spent some time with a group of people focusing on personal growth. This person also filled the role of astrology teacher for the next phase of my learning. One of the programs he offered was a training program combining Gestalt therapy techniques with astrology, which provided me with some of the deepest and most meaningful astrology work I have ever done. I know of some people who are providing this type of counseling now - contact me off-line if you would like more infor- mation. Right now I am applying for a degree program at Lesley College in Counseling (most likely Holistic Counseling - but haven't quite finalized that yet). I envision myself working with people and combining psychology, astrology, and mediumship which I feel will bring in a fuller awareness of the dynamics of the psyche on many different levels. All of this is utilized to facilitate healing of the spirit/soul/body/mind. I believe that this will become more and more a part of the mainstream. It's time has come. Carole

Marilyn, I certainly can understand and appreciate your confusion, and it is really important to get the right guide and the right mix of groups. I take a really global view of life and my own development, too. Right now I feel I have a perfect combination. I recommend Ray LeVesque as a Primal therapist type, Acton, 264.0221 (Area Code 508). He was an EAP Director at DEC and now has started his own practice. I go to Nancy Hastings in Concord for my Astrology directions and some good counseling also. She is well known in her field, has an excellent reputation and also psychic powers. I go to CoDA, Codependents Anonymous, Inc. for group support and therapy. It is a twelve step type program and very spiritual and free. You can call me 223-3696 if you need more. M.J.
