    Some readers may be interested in the cover photo on the current (23
    June, 1989) issue of Science.  It shows a mineral specimen in the form
    of an oriental "yin-yang" symbol.  It is formed of grains of garnet
    imbedded in schist.  It was caused by the rotational deformation of
    the schist while the garnet was forming.  The original specimen is
    about 2 cm across (a bit under an inch).  Very striking.

	Re .3 (Norm): Rather than typewriter art, it's easier to tell you how to construct one. Make a circle with radius R. Lightly draw a diameter. Bisect the two radii coming from the circle's center. At each bisection point, strike a semicircular arc so that the circle looks as if it's surrounding an "S." Color one of those teardrop-shaped figures black (so you have a black and a white "teardrop" fitting together and forming a circle) and you have a Yin-Yang shape. In some versions, at the midpoints of the radii, there are contrasring dots of the other color (white on the black half and black on the white half). The Yin-Yang principle is both very simple and highly complex, depending upon which levels mof symbolism one wishes to explore. Steve Kallis, Jr.

	This isn't the greatest, but combined with Steve's desription there should be no question left. . . . . . . . . * . . . . . . . . . . . . . . o . . . . . . . . . This is about the best I could do quickly. I know you must have seen this before somewhere so use your imagination. One side would be white with a little dot of black in the middle and the other black with a dot of white. It has been used to describe many balancing situations, like good vs. evil, and I've also seen it discussed in reference to sex and the second chakra, Svadhisthana (more simply, the sex drive). The discussion I read was concern- ing the balancing of sexual energy. On one hand you could be having too much sex (not good) and on the other hand you shouldn't be a monk (not good either - according to this source). The key is to find a happy medium... and ask him how he got so happy! :-) Guy

	RE: the last few on Jethro Tull It's real interesting though that at the last Music Awards.... Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for best Heavy Metal album of the year. Jethro's album.....Crest of a Knave. john

	Tull might be hard... but he ain't heavy. IRON MAIDEN or perhaps JUDAS PRIEST when compared to Tull will bring out the not so subtle differences between the two types of music. in a meager attempt to bind this in with DEJAVU. There is a note in HEAVY_METAL (#582) that is discussing how different chords cause certain emotions. I dont have the node info but i'm sure some METAL HEAD out there will have the info. ;-)
