1058.0. "Trapped in Nightmares" by UBOHUB::HOOD_S () Fri May 26 1989 12:07

    Hello,

I'm sorry to add yet another 'help me with my dreams' request
but this is really causing me some grief and any help/advice
anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

For several months now I have had the same dream almost
EVERY night without relent and it's wearing me down. I am
sitting in a dark room on a single wooden chair in the centre.
I seem to be younger than I am in real life and am dressed
scruffily with tatty hair and bare feet. There is a dim
glow in the room around me and the chair but apart from that
it is total darkness. I can't see anyone but all around me
there are voices shouting angrily or sort of lashing spitefully
at me. They start of as a sort of rumbling and I'm looking
wildly around me to peer through the dark and try to see who it
is then they get louder and louder until I can bear it no longer.
I then cover my face with my hands and scream loudly as I stand
up from the chair - as this happens I wake suddenly in a sweat
with my heart banging in my chest and I am usually actually
sitting bolt upright as I wake.

This is very disturbing as you can imagine and I have great
difficulty in getting up the courage to go back to sleep
and the dreadful feelings I have on waking sometimes don't
really fade away until lunchtime at work.

Does anyone else have similar experiences?

    Thanks a lot for listening,

    SANDY.

    Sandy,

Sounds like a stress related dream: alone in the dark, angry voices
etc. I have a trick I use to stop reoccuring nightmares which you
may want to try. I look at myself in the mirror (right in the eye)
and repeat the words "I will not dream that dream tonight" .. works

    for me anyway .

    Hi Sandy,

That dream sounds like a real bummer. I dont think I have had any
reoccuring nightmares but I have had dreams in which I could interact
in. If you have any control in the dreams perhaps you can ask out
loud during the dream "who is there!". It may provide you with an
answer and from there you will have something to work with.

    Good luck.

Sometimes recurring dreams/nightmares are simply repeating messages
that we need to understand. Have you tried interpreting the dream?
