| Another mythological connection I always thought was interesting
is that Prometheus, champion of man when the Olympians ruled, was
punished *severely* when he brought fire to man...fire=light, for
sure...is there a correlation between Prometheus=Lucifer=Satan?
Could it be part of the bad press all other regions got at the hands
of early Christians?

1044.9 | Minor Roman/Greek God. | CADSYS::COOPER | Topher Cooper | Thu May 11 1989 13:43 | 11 |
| Lucifer was the Roman name for the Greek god Phosphoros, the Morning
Star (the planet Venus when it appears before the sunrise). In poetry
he was frequently refered to as the Herald of Dawn. There are almost
no known myths about Lucifer/Phosphorus, perhaps because by clasical
times, when most of the extant myths were recorded, the identity of
the Morning and Evening Stars (i.e., Venus/Aphrodite) was well known.
In Christian legendry, Lucifer -- God's Personal Herald, and right-hand
entity -- came to be Satan's name before his fall.
