         I recently received a flyer on this.  I'm only entering this
    note so that others can know something about it should they ever
    encounter it.
       
         The Institute of Noetic Sciences was founded in 1973 by Dr.
    Edgar D. Mitchell, Apollo 14 astronaut, to support research and
    educational programs to expand mankind's understanding of the nature
    of consciousness and the mind-body link.  Over the years, the
    institute has funded a broad range of activities.  The programs
    listed reflect the variety of our interests and our overall 
    policy-to fund on a cost-effective basis those programs which will
    contribute to a better understanding of the inner person and universal
    consciousness.
      
    Sponsored Projects Program.
        The purpose of this program is to sponsor leading edge projects
    on human consciousness that might not be readily funded through
    traditional sources.  In the past, we have provided partial funding
    for a variety of projects, including biofeedback research, assessing
    voluntary control of inner states and physiological processes; cancer
    research on the relationship of psychological factors to cancer
    healing; and remote viewing of randomly selected targets inaccessible
    to normal modes of perception.
    
    REcent activities include:
     
         Tibetan Meditation and Exceptional Abilities
    
         Higher Creativity and Breakthrough Insights
    
         Relationship Between Mind and Immunity
    
         Research on Multiple Personality and Dissociative States
    
         Esalen Institute Soviet-American Exchange Program:Cosmonaut-
         Astronaut Dialogues.
    
    Changing attitudes toward a systematic study of human consciousness:
    A few new trends
    -Dramatic increase in the acceptance of the role of the mind in
    health
    -Widespread recognition of the important role of unconscious mental
    processes in everyday personal and professional life, as well as
    in social and political change
    -Increased openness, especially among business people, about the
    role of intuition in good decision-making
    -General awareness of our unconscious ability to "know" how to
    modify the functioning of our bodies in various respects, as shown
    in biofeedback training.
    -Increased willingness to talk about such formerly taboo subjects
    as death, dying and near-death experiences.

    Hi Frederick,
    
    Thanks for that information.  I read an article on this organization
    in New Age Journal last year, only it was in an interview format
    with Ed Mitchell being interviewed and did not give specifics on
    the organization itself.
    
    I'm a space travel fan (NOT space cadet (;^) and was duly impressed
    with what Ed Mitchell had to say.

    Don - wonderful idea!  When system managers are asked if they are a
    god, most of them reply 'yes'.  (;^)  Either this or they read MOVIE
    notes.
