1021.2 | the magic touch... | CURIE::BERMAN | | Fri May 05 1989 14:33 | 51 |
| Darryl,
Tell me a little more about what you call Pschic
Assisted Healing, because I've never heard that before.
However, I want to relate an ability that I have (and
have successfully taught to some of the friends), in
which I am able to remove someone's aches and pains by
massaging or touching the sore area. In effect, I pull the pain
with my hands (picture my fingers as vaccuum cleaners!),
and it moves up my arms and through my body until I direct
it out of me. The only lingering after-effect is that I cannot
use my hands for 15-20 minutes -- can't hold a pen, can't
type on a keyboard, can't grasp small objects.
The recipient of my massage always feels better, with the
pain completely gone or drastically reduced. I should also
note that 99% of them think I'm nuts when I tell them I can
end their stiff necks, backaches, or sore muscles by touching
them, but they are all believers now.
I have always been able to do this, but thought it was
something everyone can do. I did not know until I was in
my 20's that giving backrubs was not supposed to be painful
for the giver. Unfortunately, my pain threshhold is not very
high, so I cannot work on someone for more than 15 minutes,
but that's usually enough time to make someone more comfortable.
I taught two friends to do this, and they have each taught
a few other friends. I believe everyone can do this, if you
are willing to open your mind to the possibility. It mostly
concerns developing sensitivity to the aura that pain gives off;
for example, I can find the sore spot on someone's back in less
than a minute, just by running my hands over the skin.
I've discovered that the process works faster and more effectively
if I ask the massage recipient to concentrate on my hands, and
try to visualize them as vaccuum cleaners. Everyone thinks it's
really funny, but two purposes are served: 1) it gives that
person something to concentrate on besides the pain, thus relaxing
him/her, and 2) it concentrates the flow of pain/energy
from the area on which I am focused, so that I receive it as a
smooth stream, which is easier for me to absorb.
And if someone is really stubborn about trusting me, I ask him/her
to visualize "pushing" the pain against my fingers. That ALWAYS
works, although it can be quite a painful jolt for me.
Well, I don't know if this is what you are talking about,
but when I read your note, it struck a chord.

That sounds real good to me. Being a professional masseur,
I often wish to utilize energies like that. As it is, sometimes
I help, and sometimes I don't (although I virtually always
provide some sort of pleasure.) What you say reminds me of
the Ellen Burstyn role in "Resurrection". I think one of the
issues that comes up for me around this is the attitude expressed
in the book "2150." That is, if a person isn't ready, you aren't
really helping. Perhaps that is where I get hung up.
As for taking on the person's pain, etc., I think you need
to open yourself up to the next step...which is passing it on.
If the pain can pass to you, then you can pass it on. To who?
Well, not to a person, but why not just to the "cosmos?" I think
that if you work on it, you may actually find success there. If
you are just talking about pain in your hands, then I can provide
a much simpler answer...[don't look now, but it's called "fatigue".]
Virtually every massage I give I must take care to not do a certain
technique for too long...one is for the boredom to the recipient but
the other reason is to avoid cramping in my fingers or hands. Simply
changing a rhythm or stroke can avoid that.
Then again, you may be talking into a different wind.

| re: .2 (Lynn)
I believe that all healing must come from within that person. All the
healer is doing is acting as a go between to your higher self and
your subconscious/conscious mind and giving the body a little boost in
healing itself with some healing energy. Health problems is a way for the
higher self to get messages to the mind without being censored by the ego.
The psychic healer creates a direct link from the higher self to the mind,
bypassing the ego. In many cases there is a large out pouring of emotions
doing the healing, other cases there is a delayed reaction and then sometimes
the person is just not ready to deal with it. If the person is not ready
to deal with it then anything you do will be for the most part ineffective.
Because we do pump energy into the area that has the problem some healing
may take place but it won't last. Still the message is getting to the
mind and must be processed. Granted it may be little more a nag but the
mind still must deal with that message. Also to address some of Fredrick's
concerns about not really helping ( which what he is really trying to say
nicely is doing more harm than good). Which is really a very valid
concern because that is what doctors tend to do. They cure the problem
but blow off the cause. Leaving the higher self with little choose but
to get a bigger 2x4 to get their attention. With psychic healing, the healer
is taken his/her lead from the higher self of the subject. Everyone is
ready for growth, it is just a matter of on what level.
Are you sure you didn't get the notes from my class? Just kidding! One
of the techniques I teach is called "pull outs". Which is nothing more than
pulling the junk (pain, emotion, etc) out of an area, while having the person
push it out. Which sounds the about same as what you do. It does sound
like you are a very effective healer and the only problem that you seem to
have with it is the pain that it causes you. What comes to mind off the top
of my head to try to relieve pain, is to visualize a magnet that will pull the
pain and junk out but will only stick to the outside of your body. Then
often brush it off will one quick determine stroke. You should also ask
permission of the person before you brush it away. After all it is their
pain and they may want it back :-)
I hope that this has answer some of your questions and would be happy to
answer anymore.

It sounds to me like what you need is to be more grounded with the
earth when you are doing your healings. Before you start, just
ground and center, then visualize roots from either your tailbone
or you feet going into the center of the earth. Then, whatever
you pick up, just send into the earth. That way you won't be taking
it personally.

It has been suggested that it is more useful to ground oneself
from "above", i.e., the "cosmos", than it is to ground oneself via
the earth. I don't remember why, but if I can think of it, I will
try to remember to put it here.

1021.7 | grounding from above? huh? | CURIE::BERMAN | | Thu May 11 1989 14:36 | 27 |
| I guess I was not very clear when I talked about the pain I
receive from the person with the aches. The energy flows
through my fingers and palms into my arms -- and I can
usually direct it from my shoulders, down my sides and
legs and out my feet. On occasion it gets blocked, like in
my elbows (ouch!), or feet (double ouch!), usually a direct
result of too much energy coming in too fast.
When I can, I force my pain out manually, by
sliding my one hand down the length of the other arm, forcing
the energy into my fingertips and then pulling it out from there.
If I'm really hurting, I ask a friend to pull it for me.
And where do I send it? Out into the air --
I am very careful not to "throw" it in the direction
of anyone. I aim at the floor, usually, or an inanimate object,
like the wall. The floor is the best, I believe, but I would
be very interested to hear about grounding from the cosmos above.
(Hmm...how would I even try "grounding" myself from above?)
Like I said in my original note, I had no idea that
my experiences were not "the norm." Has anyone else found
themselves able to do this?

re. 2
Lynn,
I have a friend who also has this ability to remove pain
by just touching the _injured_ area. When she has worked
on me, I've found that depending on how painful the area
is (usually the knees) I get extremely relaxed to almost
non-functional. When it's over we both seem to be mentally
tired and end up snoozing for a little while.
I, too, have discovered and been told that I have a healer's
touch though at this time it isn't really trained. After
treating either a person or my horse (yes, I give him a
massage regularly, too and he LOVES it!) I find that I'm a
little weary but not in pain. The only time I've experienced
pain was when a person's minor chakra was blocked and just
feeling their aura caused me to feel sort of an electrical
shock go through my hand chakra and up my arm and out through
the elbow. Talk about a wake-up!
I think the other replies that 1) you must ground and center
first, will help you to deal with the pain. 2) You might want
to take a massage therapy workshop to learn some of the various
strokes (Harvard Community Health Plan offers a few inexpensive
courses). My thoughts on massage being a way to treat the
symptoms and not the cause/problem itself vary. I agree
that sometimes mental stress, emotional imbalance, etc. can
and do lead to physical problems.
But there are times when the more serious types of muscle
problems such as sprains, tears, etc. can be avoided by
massage. A lot of times we do things to our bodies that
by the time we notice them we are well on our way to a
serious problem. Massage is a way to release the spasming
muscle (which we may not feel) and to move the toxic fluid
that surrounds the muscle therefore not allowing it to relax.
This in turn leads to a knotted muscle. Throw in over use,
excercise, etc. and this muscle/tendon/ligament is primed
for a pull, sprain, tear or worse.
Well I've rambled enough for now. I do believe that it is
good to heal the mind as well as the body. And I also
believe some people may have natural gifts/talents in certain
areas. Good luck.

1021.9 | Can "healers" cure themselves? | DNEAST::BERLINGER_MA | LIFE IN THE ASTRAL PLANE | Thu Nov 30 1989 12:41 | 13 |
| Since I was 18 I've been plagued by muscle spasms,
pinched nerves, sprains, tears, pulls and the like. I also believe that
each of us has the ability to heal. My ability, too,is not trained
(developed). As a result I have seen several M.D.s and have been going
to a chiropracter for about 9 years. Neither one (M.D. or D.C.) has
given me lasting relief or hope of freedom from the pain. My question
is can people with developed healing powers relieve thier own pain?
Thanks,
Mark -who has a sore shoulder today (again)

There is a wonderful book out which I use, and it is:
"You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise Hay
It gives me insight about the possible emotional causes of the physical
manifestation of the disease. In fact, I used this thought process this
morning to stop a case of conjunctivitis I had coming on. Sometimes
though, the physical manifestation is too far advanced for me to arrest
and then I turn to traditional medicine temporarily to help my body to
heal.

| You can use the healing techniques on those pearts of your body that
hurt you. Especially laying on of hands techniques can be very
effective when used this way.
In fact, in Reiki II class you learn how to go back and heal your own
past. There are probably other places you can learn the same things,
but this is where I learned it. A couple of people in the class went
back to prior times and found they had hurt part of their body. They
healed it in the past, and they don't recall any symptomes from that.
Maybe they really did heal it in the past, thus don't have anything now
to show for it. Oh well, all the better.

Sahaja Yoga works precisely like this; you learn about your
subtle system and how to heal your problems, including physical
ones such as muscle and back pain, with vibrations.
See note 401.* for more details...
