1015.0. "Spirit Guides" by DYO780::CROUCH () Wed Mar 29 1989 13:51

    	I am new to this conference (as well as to the whole field of
    metaphysics). I have become aware and interested in it from my
    search for information about my Native American heritage (I am part
    Cherokee). I have been "led" to this area by my search. The
    spirituality that is an integral (though, I think often overlooked
    or ignored) part of metaphysics speaks to my heart.

    	I am not a religious person (to understate my beliefs!) in the
    traditional sense. I see now that I have confused religion with
    spirituality. While they *may* be the same, for many idividuals
    (myself included) they are not. This is opening a whole new world
    (universe?) for me.

    	Enough philosophizing! I have read some of the DEJAVU topics
    and seen a complete directory of the note but haven't seen many
    topic discussed which I am interested in. Soooo...

    	Have any of you worked with, or had experience with spirit guides?
     If so, how do they manifest themselves? If it is by an "internal"
    voice which you converse with, how do you know you are speaking
    with a spirit guide and not just *yourself* ?

    	I'll open more subjects later.

1015.1Something to think about...CADSYS::COOPERTopher CooperWed Mar 29 1989 15:537
    > how do you know you are speaking with a spirit guide and not just
    > *yourself* ?

    Why is it important to you to be able to distinguish the two? What
    is "just" about "yourself"?

1015.2Your question is a good one.WRO8A::WARDFRGoing HOME--as an AdventurerWed Mar 29 1989 18:4427
    re: .0 and .1

         It CAN be very important to know where the voices are coming
    from...and again, as Topher says, usually not, perhaps.
    It depends on what the voice(s) are saying and what you are doing
    with the information. IF they are telling you to do drastic things,
    then more than likely it's the negative ego disguising itself (if
    necessary) to lead you away from the real source. If it is
    yammy-yammying away, with negativity, grandiosity, pomposity,
    judgementalness, etc., then the same. If your reality is functioning
    well and you are happy, then perhaps it isn't so important for
    you to look. I believe, however, that spirituality, as you so
    wisely delineated from religion, is an integral and essential
    eventual part of each and all of us. As such, it is the relationship
    with hold within ourselves that will establish the strength of
    the union (communion.) And within *that*, the inner parts of the
    self, including the guides or counselors (or various other names),
    ALL serve a useful part and a living, breathing relationship/intimacy
    can be established and utilized.
          I urge you to pursue your exploration, in spite of what others
    may say (who undoubtably lack the relationship(s) themselves), and
    work towards separating the voices and learning where to place
    your trust. From the accounts of those who have these types of
    relationships, all kinds of wonderful benefits can be a result.

1015.3Just Ask!TILTS::YOSHIIThu Mar 30 1989 12:1013
    Larry,

    You might try asking questions like, "What is your name and why are
    you here?". If they do not offer their name, or you get that feeling
    in the back of your neck, they are probably not there for YOUR highest
    and greatest good. I personally would banish it to the great realm
    if this were the case. If they do offer their name, speak and listen
    in trust and innocence. There are many spirits (animal, ancestor,
    plant, etc.) that can guide and teach you but they may not be what you
    would consider your "spirit guide".

    Re: .1, .2

    	Good advice. Personally, I want to know where it is coming
    from. It's a matter of trust and belief. I've been an analyst
    and scientist so long that it's hard to discount the source. I
    understand that *where* it comes from is irrelevant if the message
    is valid, but...

    Re: .3

    	The simplicity of it! If nothing else works, try the obvious!
     I will try it tonight. I have this fear that all of this metaphysical
    "stuff" is just wishful thinking. My negative ego talking???

    Hi Larry,

    I have experience working with spirit guides, and have entered
    a few notes in this file recounting some of them. If you would
    like to discuss this further, perhaps we could discuss it in
    Mail.  Let me know!

    Hi Carole,

    I am very interested in this conference, but I was never so couraged
    to write in this notes file, because my English is not the best.
    As I read you have experience working with spirit guides I thought
    maybe you could discuss this topic with me by mail too.

    I am from Munich (GY) and you can reach me under All-in-1, Location
    Code @UFH, or you can send me a VAXmail (MUNEDU::WILDGRUBER)

    Hi Carole,

    I have only recently discovered this file, or rather, have had the
    time to read it and I apologize for the long delay.

    I have, within the past 3 weeks, seen my spirit guide. I would
    like to speak with someone more experienced since the event occured
    only once. Please contact me at SWAPIT::HARRIS.

    I'll be waiting anxiously.

1015.11A Question.REGENT::WAGNERMon Aug 20 1990 22:4510
    Does anybody know of any psychics, clairavoyants, etc that may be able
    to determine the names of one's spiritual Guide? An acquaintance had
    asked me if there is a way to determine one's spirit guides so I'm
    forth-putting the question to those who might be more knowledgeable in
    this area.

    Thanks,
    Ernie

1015.12Inside is where it is...MISERY::WARD_FRGoing HOME--as an AdventurerWed Aug 22 1990 14:0416
    re: .11 (Ernie)

         No one needs to tell anyone what the name of their counselors
    (guides) are. All one need do is go into a meditation, call them
    up, and ask them. Then, trust the answer. As an addendum to that,
    however, I will add that very, very often counselors change form
    as we grow (spiritually.) They may appear as a certain form
    for a while as a means of developing trust, etc. (or to engage
    one or draw in their believability or to challenge their ego, etc.,
    etc.) and then later on may change into another form. The same
    goes for the names, although at a certain point, once the rapport
    and trust has been established and accepted, both name and form
    will probably stabilize.

1015.13Very Interesting!REGENT::WAGNERWed Aug 22 1990 16:5030
    Frederick,

    	Thank you for your dissertation on that nature of spirit guides, or
    counselors as you call them. I'm wondering if they are the same because
    years ago, I had been given the names of my spirit guides via my mother
    by a clairavoyant out Indiana way, I think. I was given the
    information that we each have three: one who is a close family member,
    an Indian Guide and I forget the nature of the third. The family
    member is my mother's father, The Indian Guide's name is White Eagle,
    and I forget who the third one is. The name White Eagle sure seems to
    be a common name among the Indians, sort of like the name John Smith is
    in this part of the world. (;'>
    	Anyway, a person for whom I am doing a numerology chart had asked
    me this question, and I don't really think she is of the temperament to
    do any meditation. Nevertheless, This is her belief that she needs to
    know the names of her spirit guides and who am I to try to alter her
    reality. (:'> I will relay your information to her though, explaining
    to her that you do have a different perspective on spirit guides than
    many people.

    I myself, would not be able to trust the results I might get, because as I
    stated elsewhere, I might end up not trusting it because of the feelings
    I did or did not receive. Besides why depend on spiritual entities when
    I can go right to the "SOURCE."

    Anybody else out there have any information on this for me?

    Thanks,
    Ernie
