| I have not had a natal astrocartography map prepared for myself yet, but
it seems from looking at samples shown in astrocartography ads that the maps
are a pretty slick and condensed representation of how the natal positions of
planets and your natal houses would appear from any location on earth.
I am not able to generate this type of global map all at once, yet I have
explored what appears to be the identical concept by casting charts for my
correct birth date/time but at different locations. This is a relatively
established astrological procedure. Astrocartography seems to make it easy
to see broad areas (actually sinusoidal arcs) of the world where certain
conditions would be present in your natal chart if it was cast for that
location. It seems genuinely useful for this purpose.
However, once you identify specific potential locations, a natal chart cast
for that location can yield a more accurate indication of what your life would
be like at that spot. Since the birth time is identical to your natal chart
(adjusted for time zone) the planets end up in identical zodiacal positions.
The natal house cusps, however, will end up being rotated by roughly the same
degree of arc (but opposite direction) as the longitude difference between
the natal and new locations. The natal houses will also be distorted in
varying degrees depending mostly upon latitude differences.
In any case, assuming that astrocartography is a condensed and simplified
form of the basic natal-chart-for-a-new-location technique, then I can relate
one simple example of how the astrological effects may manifest themselves.
I was born in Albany,NY. Five years ago I left a DEC facility in Hudson,MA
to join a start-up company in Rochester,NY. Since the distances are relatively
small (globally speaking) the charts for all three locations are very similar,
and most planets remained in my natal houses for charts cast at all three
locations. However, it turned out that the Sun was positioned in the ninth
house of my natal (Albany) and Hudson charts, but in the tenth house of my
Rochester chart.
The ninth house (Sagittarius' natural house) governs things like higher
education, philosophy, travel, free-thinking, etc. This ninth house education-
oriented progressive work environment is what I enjoyed at DEC in Hudson for
five years. Work may not have been entirely rosy, but after all it was *work*.
The tenth house (Capricorn's natural house) is much more sober and governs
career and work, and in fact is associated with sacrifices for career
advancement. Well ... I knew it was a start-up company and would require a
lot of work ... but work is one thing and *sacrifice* is something totally
different :-{. After three years of 60-70 hour work weeks and tolerating a
long list of personal abuses in the name of company success, I got out.
Well, I have been back at DEC in Marlboro,MA for two years now, and you
couldn't offer me enough money to work in a location that puts my Sun into
the tenth house again ;-}.

| What Todd says about "relocated" charts is correct, in my experience.
Unless a client was born, raised, and now lives in the same town
I usually cast a relocated chart to see how his/her life is manifesting
now. It can yield a lot of interesting information.
My own example, which I'll add to Todd's: my birth chart, relocated
to Westford Mass, where I live, brings two planets into very precise
aspects to the angles of my chart: my Mars placement is *exactly*
on my relocated chart's Descendent (opposite the Ascendent) and
my Sun is *exactly* inconjunct (150 degrees away from) my Ascendent.
The Sun-Ascendent inconjunct has given me quite a bit of distress
in achieving any lasting feelings of inner integration; every time
I feel I'm achieving balance and centeredness, something falls off
the internal seesaw. I'm also much more accident-prone (the Mars
opposition influences this too) and illness-prone (Sun-Ascendent
inconjunct) in this locale. Ever since moving to Westford, I've
been destroying cars -- three totalled in as many years (in all
cases both the other driver and I have walked away unscathed).
The notion that your intrinsic self (planetary placements in signs,
aspects between planets) operates differently in different parts of
the world (this is what influences house cusps) is, I think, valid.
