| In terms of world events I haven't noticed that much
change in the past year. On a more personal scale I've
noticed that most of the people I come in regular contact
with seem to be mucking out their own spiritual/psychic
stables. Personally, I've been constantly confronted
with the challenge of coming into integrity with myself.
I.E. Where do I stand in terms of values, ethics, and
morality. How do I need to live to stay in harmony
with that belief system?
In Tarot terms 1988 is a Universal Strength/Lust year
which means that we are, collectively and individually,
being challenged in order to discover our strengths and
make them stronger and our weaknesses and make them or
the knowledge of them strengths.
As I recall the Harmonic Convergence was supposed to
be the start of this major change in the world as we
know it. To me, change begins at home. If I can get
my own stable swept then maybe I'll have found some
ways of impacting other's worlds and the Universe as a
whole. This isn't a particularly pleasant job to me
but I find if I ignore it it doesn't go away. The
s**t just gets deeper.
I guess then, my answer is yes. I do see changes in me
and the people around me.

| Hey gang, it's only been one year. If something is to happen, I think
one year is a bit soon to see any patterns. For those who like to
read I've typed an article in that raises some interesting points about
the whole Harmonic Convergence event. I've done this without permission
and it's from a Charlotte, NC newspaper authored by Richard A. Underwood,
Professor of Religious Studies at UNC-Charoltte. It was published a few
weeks after Harmonic Convergence.
It's a long one...
============================================
Title: Don't Scoff at 'Harmonic Convergence'
Some Christians (as well as academics and cartoonists) are scoffing at the
so-called harmonic convergence and the dawning of the new Age of Aquarius
with promise of peace, harmony and understanding. Christians, of all people,
ought not to belittle this news of a new age dawning.
The last time something like this happened was about 2,000 years ago, when the
new Age of Pisces the Great Fish (the age now ending, to make way for move-
ment into the new sign of Aquarius) was in the process of dawning. Similar
predictions were made by small bands of people scattered here and there
throughout the Roman Empire. These celebrants, a distinct minority, used
language that was similar to the language we hear today concerning harmonic
convergence: "Peace on Earth and Good Tidings of Great Joy." There was
also an astronomical event of great importance, apparently, that inspired
astrologers from the East to make a journey westward. The journeyers were
called the Three Wise Men.
By some seemingly uncanny synchronicity, the beginnings of Christianity and
the beginnings of the 2,000-year Age of Pisces the fish coincide. Why or how
this is the case is the more puzzeling, since Christian scriptures, as well
as their parent Hebrew scriptures, give express warning against astrology
and fortune-telling -- indeed, against all forms of occult insight and
wisdom that might challenge the authority of the "official" revelation.
The connection between the beginning of Christianity and the dawning of the
new Age of Pisces the Fish goes deeper than mere simultaneity of origins.
Early Christianity adopted the fish as one of its crutial mythological
and iconographic symbols. Apart from its anticipation, from the Christian
point of view, the story of Joanh and the whale (the 'great fish'), the
fish appears as a profound clue to the nature and teaching of early
Christianity. Jesus' first disciples were fishermen. Jesus calls them
to become "fishers of men." One of the great miracle stories involves the
replenishment and multiplication of loaves and fishes.
Perhaps the most striking connection between the Christian symbol of the
fish and the astrological sign of Pisces is the spelling of the Greek
word for fish: ICHTHUS. ("Pisces" is the latin word for fish). ICHTHUS
was adopted by the early Christians as an acronym consisting of the first
letters of the words comprising the name most sacred to all Christians:
"Jesus Christ: God, Son, Savior" (I=Iesus; CH=CHristos; TH=THeos, Greek
for 'God'; U=Uios, Greek for 'Son'; S=Soter, Greek for Savior).
What a remarkable coincidence! The letters of the Greek word for fish
(which is itself a sign of the zodiac created by pre-Christian pagan
astronomical imagination) are an acronym for the Christian sacared name,
and the fish, which is the sign of the new age coming at that time, the
Age of Pisces, is taken over by Christians as one of their prime symbols.
There is nothing in the acient literature to suggest that the early
Christians were selfconscious in taking over the new astrological sign of
the fish. Most likely it was a case of what we today would call uncon-
scious association, or what the Swiss Psychiatrist C. G. Jung called
an instance of "acasual sunchronicity."
In any event, the ancient world was in a state of decay, collapse and
immenent destruction when Christianity appeared on the scene. Christianity
associated itself with cosmic events themselves associated with the move-
ment into the new astrological age of the fish. Christianity replaced the
classical pagan tradition and became "victorious" on a world scale.
Now, once again, as the old sign of the fish runs its course, we are con-
fronted with the dawning of a new sign: Aquarius, the Water Bearer. Once
again there is a minority remnant of celebrants who have become dis-
illusioned with the spiritual degeneracy of the old age. Once again these
remnants, scattered here and there throughout the world, point to astro-
nomical events as a sign heralding a new age in which peace and harmony
might preside.
And once again there are the scoffers. But this time the scoffers should
know that a precedent has been set. When the new religion of Christianity
appeared 2,000 years ago simultaneously with the new Age of Pisces the
Fish, the supremacy of the old pagan culture of the classical world of
Greece and Rome was doomed. Who is to say the new conjunction of the new
Age of Aquarius will not do to Christianity what Christianity did to the
old pagan religions?
God moves in mysterious ways, we are told.

827.9 | Harmonic Electricution???? | JULIET::THOMPSON_LI | | Thu Aug 18 1988 16:56 | 56 |
| Something very strange happened to me the night of this "harmonic
convergence" - keep in mind, I didn't even know what the heck this
thing *was* when this happened to me. Oh, I had heard about it
on the radio, but always changed the station because I figured it
was a bunch of "crazies" doing something wierd (sorry, no offense
intended here - just *my* opinion). Well, let me explain (best
I can) and let all of you "noters" tell me what you think about
it......
Nothing "out of the ordinary" happened through the course of my
day - or evening - I was living alone (my husband was on deployment
in Japan for 6 months) it was immediately after I went to bed, about
10:30 or 11:00 pm. I was *not* yet asleep, but just "drifting off",
you know? I was laying on my side ( as I always sleep) and I felt
the STRANGEST feeling all along the back of my body! It was like
a tingling sensation (like if a part of your body falls asleep)
but more.....(i want to say "prickly", but thats not it...maybe
...well let's just say, it wasn't as "dull" of a tingle as when
your body parts fall asleep - thats the best I can do, sorry)...
Anyway, it just started along the very edge of the back of my body
- like the first layer of skin. Then it got more intense as it moved
*through* my body (or it *felt* as though it moved through my body)
and *as* it was moving, I heard, at first, a faint hum/buz that
got loader & loader as the feeling moved through me. Within a few
seconds, my entire body was "consumed" by this feeling. I was (felt
like I was anyway) completely paralized - I couldn't move at all
- my body was totally stiff. I could almost feel every muscle,
tense. The hum/buz noise got so loud, I could hardly stand it.
I felt that if I didn't *force* myself to move....I don't know,
maybe I would explode or something.....not really, (this is very
hard) it's just that I was so scared & I *knew* I had to move to
make it stop. I was so scared, I called out (actually I think I
said "Oh my God" or something to that effect) I moved (kind of jerked
actually - like I *broke* away from something holding me) and it
was over.
I had a ringing in my ears for a long time after (very loud), I
was in an absolute panic & covered in sweat. I just laid there
in bed - you know when your so scared, you cant move? I finally
calmed my self down & got out of bed - I felt *very* strange
(physically) for a while afterward. I had a headache too - and
my heart was pounding.
I would say that that must be EXACTLY what its like to be electricuted.
It's the only thing I can think of to relate it to. Like a surge
of electricity moving through my body.
I checked with my husband, nothing strange happened to him at that
particular time - nor anyone in my family.
Any suggestions as to what exactly this could have been? I was
scared for days afterward - and it was difficult to get to sleep
again the next few nights...I was afraid it would happen again.

hum/buz noise, there was a thumping kind-of noise (almost twangy

actually *feel* this in my head - a very rythemic, constant thump.
Also, I'm a pieces.....until the note before mine, I didn't know
there was any connection with pieces & this convergence thing.

Ever hear of kundalini? From the descriptions I've read
it sounds like you experienced a bit of it. It is the awakening
of spiritual energy. It starts at the base of the spine and moves
upward. If it reaches the top of your head (Pituitary gland) it
is supposed to be *very* euphoric and enlightening. Most folks
don't reach that intensity and experience something similar to what
you describe. There are many books on the subject if you wish to
dig further. There is even 'kundalini yoga' that is practiced to
help awaken it (I tried it once and it ain't easy!).
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the bit of info.....I wonder if this particular situation
is different though because this feeling did not start at the

until it covered my entire body.
Do you think there is a differenc?

The parent Hebrew scriptures were translated/changed more than once, and
certain "references" to certain things that later became "evil" were made in a
much more positive light than some like to believe today, including astrology.

Sounds to me like a short.... Nerve type.
Picture your body as a mass of wires with mild amounts of electricity
running in a spacific pattern. Now imagin that for some reason
the wires jiggle and possitive wires get connected to negitive wires

headaches, numbness and pain, ect.

| Hi Mrs. T.
I agree with Terry (re .12) that what you experienced
could be a spontaneous kundalini arousal. A good source book to
examine is Kundalini by Gopi Krishna who relates his experiences
when the serpent uncoiled for him. You were fortunate in that the
effects were short term and have not had an ongoing effect. Some-
one close to me had a full blown spontaneous arousal, and it was
not fun at all.
Also, Craig, in your lighthearted reply (.21) you said
that it should be easy to find someone knowledgeable about this
stuff. My experience during my friends trouble was that it was very
difficult to get any guidance at all. Time was spent in a hospital
where they didn't have a clue and little help was to be had in going
to various groups who espouse different types of meditation. I embarked
on a crash course of learning about kundalini, and though I'm far
from being an 'expert' I do know a few things. One of them is that
if someone is determined to take the 'short path' of inducing kundalini
arousal, it is extremely hazardous, even with the direct guidance
of someone who is an expert. Gopi Krishna in his book details the
hazards and not so great effects of such a course. Gopi K. had his
experiences in India and found it very difficult to find anyone
who could help him. Here in the US expert magicians can be found
rather easily; I doubt, because of personal experience, that a
kundalini 'expert' can be ferreted out with ease.
So I too will be an 'idiot' and counsel a slow and steady
course when dealing with the big K. No need for fear and loathing,
but a recognition that when one messes around with one's primal
energy, and the effect of one's practice on the way that energy
circulates through the Chakra-Nadi-Ida/Pingala/Sushumma system
(long winded that), you need to be careful. To not be careful is
to invite an accident that I can only describe as being dosed with
2000 mcg of pure Sandoz LSD. And unlike the artificially induced
trip, it doesn't stop after the requisite number of hours go by.
There was a discussion about this topic in HOLISTIC
under the TM note a few weeks ago. In that note I flesh out my ex-
periences vis-a-vis kundalini. Also, another noter describes his
experience of sudden arousal.
One last caveat, during my panic research of kundalini
a few years ago, I read more than a few books by 'experts'. Without
fail these 'idiots' counsel that a person should be VERY careful
and only proceed with utmost caution with direct guidance under
the auspices of someone who "knows". All I know is that those who
know are difficult to find.
Peace,
Reilly

This is the first time I've responded to anything in the notes file.
I'm a temp at Dec and I really don't know the workings of the workings
here, so I hope it goes alright.
What Mrs. T describes in reply .9 sounds more like the vibrations
Robert Monroe has in his book "Journeys Out of the Body." I too
have experience the vibrations and have also experienced the Kundalini.
They are both different.
The vibrations are associated with a humming noise. As the hum
comes on, you are unable to move. As is fades away, you begin to
move. I was familiar with this sensation before it happened to
me and was not afraid when it did. In fact, I monitored it. It
occurred three times, but never again. I did not struggle against
it. Maybe the struggle is what caused Mrs. T's headache.
I mentioned this to three of my co-workers here and all three had
experienced this and knew of others it has happened to.
As far as the Kundalini goes, you can actually feel the energy move
up your spine. It radiates out, but the snakes' climb is more
noticeable. This was a spontaneous happening and like the vibrations
(which was also spontaneous) never happened again.
I would like to add that I really like this conference. It makes
me feel good to know others are involved in seeking this knowledge
in a part of the country that doesn't offer very much in this area
(compared to California, Arizona, Georgia, etc.). Thank you for
your sharing.

| Kundalini is Sanskirt word meaning - the pure desire of God.
It is true that Kundalini reside in the Sacre bone at the end of
you spinal cord.
You cannot understand Kundalini through any book just as you can
not understand God by going to Theology School. There is no club
to join, no church to attend.
Two thousand years ago, some one like Baptist John and Christ has
the power to raise your Kundalini. That's right, Kundalini is the
Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit.
When Kundalini raise, you feel the cool breeze on top of your head.
It is also called "the breath of life", "Zephyr" in the Old Testmony.
In ancient Greek, it was refered as Pneuma. In Moslim Arabic, it
was called "Assas". In Hebrew Script, it was mentioned as "Ruach".
Only authorized person can raise this Kundalini, just as one
enlightened soul can enlighten another soul. It works like a candle
can lit another candle.
If you are a seeker of the truth, note 401 can mean something to
you. You can also "experience" the truth with your open mind.
Wish I can be of further help.

America's Cosmic Alarm Clock:
The Snooze Alarm Sounds This Summer
By Steven S.H. McFadden
Two years ago on August 16-17, 1987 the event that came to be known
as the Harmonic Convergence acted, in a sense, as a Cosmic Alarm Clock --
sounding a clear tone that awakened millions of people to the acute envi-
ornmental, ethical, and spiritual challenges we face. In unprecedented
numbers, people gathered at sacred places around the earth to make
prayers and ceremony for the healing of the earth.
This summer, again in August, the planets and the fates will conspire
to sound a second tone, kind of a Cosmic Snooze Alarm, which will likely
wake up many millions more, and re-energize those who are already awake.
Mid-August, thus, will be a potent healing opportunity for ceremony,
celebration, and meditation. The Rainbow Warriors -- people of all races
and faiths who love and honor the earth -- will continue to awaken and
discover their sacred power as free individuals and empowered groups.
This summer's "snooze alarm" may not be characterized by the wild
speculation or mass ballyhoo that surrounded the original Harmonic
Convergence. Still, the confluence of cosmic energies and cultural
events in mid-August will likely have a profound influence on human
beings all the same. Spiritual events are rarely marked with neon signs.
An Epoch of Transition
Several things are happening simultaneously to sound this so-called
cosmic snooze alarm. Specifically, August 16-17 will be the second anni-
versary of the Harmonic Convergence -- an event that was said to have
marked the end of the 5,125 year-long cycle represented in the Mayan
calendar, the great stone calendar of the Americas.
According to the calendar's pricipal interpreters -- Tony Shearer,
Hunbatz Men, and Jose Arguelles -- the 1987 date also initiated an
intense, 25-year epoch of transition to mass higher consciousness, a
frame of mind where people are deeply respectful of the living spirit in
all things.
Lots of people immeadiately wrote off the Harmonic Convergence as a
fiction -- a Moronic Convergence of dreamers, paranoids, and charlatans.
But by now, two years after the fact, thousands of personal and planetary
stories have emerged that appear to confirm the specific lore and the
speculation surrounding the event. Specifically in keeping with that
mythology, the last two years have indeed seen the planet rock with
governmental upheaval, economic uncertainty, firey environmental disaster
and brutal weather patterns.
According to the peculiarly American lore of the Convergence, the
upheavals and disruptions are intended to shatter corrupt systems and
practices, so that new, more harmonious and respectful forms may emerge.
The Earth is our Mother, as the Native American song goes, and now is
when we must learn again to take care of her and each other. By any
standard of reckoning, the planet is clearly in transition politically,
climactically, economically, environmentally, and spiritually. Millions
of people have found the mythology of the New Age and the Harmonic
Convergence to be helpful and supportive ways of looking at this
transition. As the late storytellr Joseph Campbell pointed out,
mythology can bring order to the seeming chaos of life. If a particular
mythology helps people to live better, happier, more fulfilled lives in
service to the larger world community, Campbell said, then by all means:
strive to make the myth real.
The Rainbow Planet
At the second anniversary of the Harmonic Convergence this August,
one of the principalcosmic tones will emanate from the tiny planet,
Chiron. Discovered on November 1, 1977 by the astronomer Charles Kowal,
Chiron has since come to be associated with the key: the key to linking
the dull chores of daily life with the rich spiritual realitles so many
people have become interested in over the last decade. Chiron is also
associated with the image of the wounded healer, and the rainbow, which
unites all colors and traditions into a beautiful whole.
The United States horoscope for July 4, 1776, shows the Sun located
at 13 degrees of the constellation Cancer -- exactly where transiting
Chiron will be August 14-19, 1898. Consequently, during the second
anniversary of the Harmonic Convergence, Chiron's principles of holistic
understanding, and holistic healing will infuse America. As the planet
of spiritual initiation, Chiron frequently stimulates people -- and
perhaps in this case a nation -- to make a deliberate choice to
experience life and work as sacred acts. The awaening impulse, though,
may well come through sharp challenges, perhaps even in the form of a
national identity crisis that could extend well into the summer of 1990.
After all, who are we as a group of people? Why are we here as a
huge wealthy, rainbow nation? What is our national purpose and destiny?
Those are important questions that, by and large, heve been overlooked in
recent years under an onslaught of materialism. As a nation we have
seemed to live onyl to make and spend money, our attention diverted from
national purpose by ultimately frivolous pursuits. Meanwhile, problems
in the foundation of the nation's economy, enviornment, ethics, and
social fabric have mounted to the breaking point.
As Chiron comes on to the nationla scene in August, the fundamental
questions of identity are likely to be raised in various ways. And we'd
be well advised to take the questions seriously. Chiron will influence
the U.S. Sun not only in August, but also January 3-10, 1990 and May
13-20, 1990. The events which take place around those times may well
frame important questions for the United States, and at the same time the
events ofr insights may present keys to the resolution of many critical
problems. Bu healing will come only to the extent that people are open
to receive and use the keys.
Shadows On The Moon
IN addition to these events, on Thursday, August 17, there will be a
lunar eclipse at about 3 am EST, polarizing the constellations of
Aquarius and Leo. Lunar eclipses take place at the time of the full
moon, when the moon is darkened by the shadow of the earth. Thus, for a
brief time in the early morning hours of August 16, the soft, reflective
light of the moon will be dimmed.
When the moon is full, the tmeperature on its surface exceeds the
boiling point of water (212 F), at which time it emits infra-red rays
that re several times more intense than the rays it usually reflects from
the SUn. But during the moments of a lunar eclipse, as the earth's
shadow moves over the surface of the moon, the temperarture plumments and
the emission of these infra-red rays ceases.
After studying this phenomenon and resulting happenstances upon the
earth, astrologers have come the associate lunar eclipses with definite
changes in the world. Vermont astrologer Kathleen Johnson says that
lunar eclipses can freeze a moment in time, often acting as triggers that
precipitate major events on both a personal and a planetary level.
The particular degree of the zodiac whcih will be influenced most by
this lunar eclipse has to do with the metaphor of the butterfly -- the
process of tranformation.
Woodstock Revisited
Not so coincidentally, just as some people are recalling the Harmonic
Convergence, and while Chiron is dancing on the U.S. Sun, the whole
nation will be bombarded with a media blitz of memory: the 20th
anniversary of the Woodstock Festival (August 15-17, 1969), whcich was
billed at the time as a "Re-gathering of the Tribes." Many observers
would identify that tribe as the Rainbow Warriors. The concept of the
Rainbow Warriors originates in ancient visions and prophecies of the
Native American peoples who foresaw that when the Earth Mother was in
grave peril, when even the rain had become pioson, people would unite
under the symbol of the rainbow and arise to defend and protect her. The
people would be different races and different beliefs, but the would all
recognize that the earth is, indeed, our mother: that all our food,
water, shelter, clothing, even our bodies, come from her. We must honor
her, and we must give thanks.
By and large, the massive, decentralized tribe of Rainbow Warriors
whcih began awakening and regathering around the time of Woodstock has
been the driving force behind such initiativesas whole, chemical-free
foods, holistic healing, peaceful conflict resolution, solar energy,
geomancy, feminism, and spiritual awareness. While the mainstream
culture has ignored or belittled their efforts, these rainbow people have
worked to develop the models of technology and human relationship
necessary to stop the madness and heal the earth.
This summer as the old tunes play -- we're talking Jimi Hendrix,
Janis Joplin, Joan Baes, Arlo Guthries and more, more, more -- the
powerful harmonic vibrations the music carries will converge with the
available planetary energies to remind and reawaken many people of all
generations. You lnow the basic themes: we are one, love unites us,
give peace a chance, honor earth and each other. Such praises seem trite
in the context of the late 1980's, but they are, after all, just
later-day jargon for what classical scholars would call eternal verities.
No matter what you call them, there's a good reason that they are
eternal: when lived out, they are what animate the human spirit and make
life worthwhile.
Voyages to the Beyond
As the melodies of the old Woodstock songs begin to fade, the
national media will turn its attention to the Voyager II space craft.
NSAS launched Voyager II over ten years ago. Spinning giddily out into
space, the craft passed Jupiter in 1979, Saturn in 1981, and Uranus in
1986. Each time Voyager passed a planet, it beamed back to earth
spectacular photographs and a rich load of scientific data.
Late this summer, Voyager II will finally reach Neptune, the planet
astrologers have long associated with the ultimite spiritual experience
of unity. Thus, immediately after these other cosmic and cultual events
have conspired to influence and awaken people, the first-ever images of
Neptune will begin appearing around the worldl on TV, in newspapers, and
in magazines. Our minds will be permeated with images of the planet most
closely associated with spiritual awareness.
As each person gazes upon the images, something deep iwithin the
psyche will be stimulated -- whether it is noticed or not. Beacuse of
the nature of Neptune, this scientific event has the potential to subtly
stimulate human awareness of the essential unity of all life -- a
perception in direct keeping with the mythology surrounding the Harmonic
Convergence.
Ceremonial Gestures
Over the last 20 years, through dreams, visions, books, workshops,
and experimentation, thousands upon thousands of people have relearned
the basic spiritual gesture of combining sacred time with sacred space.
Withoutneed for priests to intervene between humanity and heaven, these
skilled ceremonialists keep track of auspicious times such as Slostices,
Equinoxes, and planetary convergences. They use these times to offer
thanks and invoke blessings. When such gestures are offered at one of
the world's many sacred sites, they have pontential to be particularly
effective in helping to reestablish a web of healing light around the
world.
Are all of these gestures having an effect? Well, there's lots of
evidence to support any answer you care to give. Each day the media
brings us evidence of planetary degredation and chaos. But behind that
layer of information is evidence of healing: the transformation of
Russia, international conferences on the greehouse effect, the World Bank
awakening to destruction of the rain forests, and on and on.
So is the cosmic glass half-full or half-empty? Many of those who
choose to see it as half full -- and who are also stirred by the myth-
ologies of teh New Age, the Rainbow Warriors, and the Harmonic
Convergence -- will open themselves to the available currents of
spiritual energy with song, dance, and prayer again in Mid-August -- not
at some specific time, but where and when their intuitation and
intelligence guides them.
While humanity has a long way to go physically and metaphysically,
many millions of people have already awakened to the spiritual realities
of our times. This year, particularly in the month of August, under the
lights of the full moon and to the sound of some righteous rock and roll,
the Cosmic Snooze Alarm is likely to wake up a few million more
sleepyheads. It's time to roll out, rise and shine.

I thought there was some contraversy over whether Chiron is actually a
planet (and that Pluto and Chiron are, thus, "twins") or a very large
moon. I'm not certain that its been settled either way.

Charon is the Plutonian moon (or "twin"); Chiron is an asteroid.
Pluto, itself is rather small as planets go, for that matter.

Right Steve K., Charon and Chiron are two different bodies. Charon
is a moon of Pluto. Chiron is an asteroid which orbits between
Saturn and Uranus. As was mentioned in Steve McFadden's article,
Chiron was discovered in 1977. Astrologers are just beginning to
work with the symbolism of this "planetoid". In checking back
in my own life to major events that occurred and then checking to
see the planetary transits that were occurring to my birth chart,
I found the most significant to be Chiron transits.
Discoveries of significant heavenly bodies seem to be connected
to new awakenings in the consciousness of humanity. It will be
interesting to see what the study and observance of Chiron holds
for us.

Charon, though smaller than Pluto, is not a whole lot smaller. It is
therefore a question of choice as to whether you consider Pluto/Charon
to be a planet and its satelite or a double planet.
