823.0. "Goodby" by SWSNOD::DALY (Serendipity 'R' us) Wed Aug 10 1988 13:53

It is with a heavy heart that I make this entry. Friday, Aug 19, will be
my last day here at Digital. My decision to leave Digital makes business
sense, but it surely does tug at my heart strings to leave my noting friends
behind. Though I have left a few times before, that has always been because
of a contract coming to an end. That is not the case here. I am starting a
new venture that could take me away for quite some time. Though I am quite
excited about my new undertaking, I must admit that the lack of access to
NOTES in general, and DEJAVU in particular has hit me harder than I expected.
Chances are fair that I will find myself back here at Digital at some time in
the future, though that seems like slim consolation for the near term loss.
'Till then I know you will be kind to each other. My thoughts will be with
you often.

Jeez, I'm going to miss you guys!

Hi Marion,

I don't often write to this conference because it takes
so long from over here (Munich) but this is just to say
I've enjoyed your entries, and good luck, and if you
ever make it over here...

...peace, John.

Being also a "contractor" (about 80% of my time the past 13 years)
I now exactly how you feel... THE thing I miss (besides colleagues
of course) everytime I leave DEC is NOTES. I strongly believe
it's the most powerfull computer tool ever created. There is
no other way to share such an amount of knowledge on such a variety
of subjects with so many people around the world.

I wish you all the best for your new venture, and hope
that you will meet new interesting people so that it
might somehow compensate a bit for the (temporary ?)
    loss of your noters-friends.

Do you know the words to the song which starts off like this:

"May the road rise to meet you, may the wind stay always

It was always sung as a parting song at a church I attended as a

Marion;
These words were sung by Bilbo Baggins as he left Bag End in the Shire.
He had just left his home and belongings to Frodo, including the Ring. He
was 'off again, off on the Road' he had been longing for, for years.

"Good-bye, Gandalf!
"Good-bye, for the present, Bilbo. Take care of yourself! You are old
enough, and perhaps wise enough."
"Take care! I don't care. Don't you worry about me! I am as happy now
as I have ever been, and that is saying a great deal. But the time has
come. I am being swept off my feet at last," he added, and then in a low
voice, as if to himself, he sang softly in the dark:

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
                Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And wither then? I cannot say.

	Marion,

I've very much enjoyed your contributions to DEJAVU. You've left
behind a bit of yourself here in the heart of the notesfile for
others to enjoy as they adventure their way through the thousands
	of replys. Thanks!

I wish you the best. Take care and may you continue to find light
        on your path.

823.16A Song of BlessingVITAL::KEEFEBill Keefe - 223-1837 - MLO21-4Mon Aug 15 1988 23:4844
    Marion, this one's for you.

    	- Bill

A Song of Blessing	Composed and written by: Joe Wise

(Refrain) The Lord let his face shine down upon you,
the sun rise up to meet you on your way,
the spirit of His love invade the circle of your friends,
your vision keep you changing day by day.

Good times be the jingle in your pocket,
life's hearth-stone there to warm you when you rise.
	Forgiving and for growing be the way you know your soul;
the heart be always open to surprise.

Your life find all its seasons in the hollow of His hand.
His heart will be the ocean
storing all your footprints in the sand.

	(Refrain) --

Falling down be only London's bridges,
Down and out be only words for rhyme.
A suitcase full of dreams be all that weighs your body down,
your life pour out like sweet and good red wine.

And time will tell your story; we will listen once again.
Your song will have its moment.
Leave your sign on the forehead of a friend.

(Refrain) --

Your rest be peaceful, sleep a fond companion,
and wonder mark the roads you need to roam.
If death should carve a canyon in between us for awhile,
then sing this song for me 'til I come home.

(Refrain) The Lord let his face shine down upon you,
the sun rise up to meet you on your way,
the spirit of His love invade the circle of your friends,
your vision keep you changing day by day.

The music that goes with the song makes it ever so much better.
The song is from his album "Take It For Gift: Joe Wise". My wife
and I used it at our wedding ceremony. The record label is Fontaine
    House and it's distributed by:

Pastoral Arts Associates of No. America
    4744 West Country Gables Drive
    Glendale, AZ 85306

although I think you would be able to pick it up locally if you
checked around, especially any shops that carry religious music.

I must say goodbye too. My last day is Friday, and, being a summer

Thanks to all who have responded to my questions. This is probably
