796.0. "Dream - Oak Chest Of Drawers" by SCOPE::PAINTER (Feelin' happy.....) Fri Jul 15 1988 14:00

A friend of mine dreamed recently that he was a piece of furniture
    - an oak chest of drawers. He's not particularly fond of oak
furniture, however he does like pine and cherry.

    Any ideas?

I decided to 'write' this note as opposed to 'reply' since there
are so many 'dream' topics already.

That could simply mean that he not useing a type of skill or gift.
If you notice, a piece of Oak is a hard piece of wood. Not only
it's hard, but if it's a piece of furniture, you know that it just
sits around and do nothing. Being that oak is a hard piece of wood,
your friend could be a very stubborn person, and do the opposit
of what he's supposed to do. I can't really write this like it's
coming to me, but it's the best I could do.

I don't know how rare it is...I have had the experience of
sensing myself somehow as some type of massive mineral (i.e., a
large boulder) in the moments just prior to falling asleep. For
me it has always been a little disturbing to feel like that. What
it feels like is as though I am a large, probably (but not necessarily)
immobile mass of rock which can see and hear and be very aware of
all around me at that time.

Just off the top of my head, I vaguely recall this category from
a survey of dream content. So, while it may be unusual, it isn't
unheard of. I think our dreams are much less limited than what
we can *remember* of our dreams -- the weirder a dream the more
likely it is to be forgotten or transformed into something somewhat
more rational in our memories (this has been demonstrated by asking
about dreams immediately after people wake up and then later on).

For the past three or four nights, I have dreamed about looking
at objects on top of bureaus. No kidding. This note must be
sitting somewhere in my subconscious, having been internally deemed,
for whatever "rational" reason, a handy symbol.

    Could be worse, I guess...

796.30Bureau of Dream InterpretationBTO::BEST_GThu Jul 28 1988 07:5410

I think that this bureau (which would we could refer to as the Bureau
of Investigation) could represent the subjects own unexplored
subconscious mind. I've read that people often times dream of
exploring a house or other unfamiliar territory and this represents
exploration of the unconscious mind. Of course if the bureau is
    empty I'd be worried. ;-)

    Re.30

That has definite possibilities. My friend is just now getting into
metaphysics, mind/body healing, etc., in a big way. In fact, this
was my first guess - that he is on the verge of opening some places
that have been closed for a very long time.

Fortunately his childhood was a good one, so he's a step ahead of
most people and I suspect that whatever he uncovers will benefit
    him greatly.

I would interpret this dream to be a symbol of organizing one's life and
putting things in order. A bureau has drawers in which to put things in an
organized manner. They also tend to be personal things.

From the person who inspired me to enter .0......

Please post these details to DEJAVU 796.

Oak, definitely oak, hard, stained, bowed front with metal handles
that were perhaps not the same age as the chest itself. Antique, four
short cabriole legs, four drawers, grain visible, handsome (if you
like oak). When shuddering, the little metal handles would make a
familiar ting before coming to rest. Sort of helpless feelings or
frustration from not being able to move about, communicate. Nothing
was on top of the chest of drawers and there was no sense of what was
inside. After being conscious that I was the chest of drawers, a sense
of problem came over me, then resolution, only to be followed by
problem. After waves of this, it became apparent that this was
eternal and caused frustration, determination, a twinge of tenacity.

Your responses have been fun and interesting.

    Thank you.
