Greg,
Being sensitive enough to work with the tarot I would think that
you would "feel" energies, whether they be *negative* or *positive*.
How do you perceive the place? How do your thought patterns run
around school versus being away from the area? Do you find yourself
being more depressed just being in the school atmosphere? (Not being
directly connected to if your homework is done or not, that is!
:+) )

RE: .3
I would love to say that I have sensed "negative" feelings about the
dormitory, unfortunately, I haven't since I've been there (and haven't
sense bad feelings anywhere else). Sometimes I have felt anxious
in my _own_ room, almost like expecting someone to walk in to my
room. But when I go and check the door, no one is there. I don't
know whether that has to do with the building, my deja vu (which
is common for me) or a combination of the two.
There are certain rooms, I am told, which do give you a feeling
like there is a presence in the room, but I have never witnessed
this first hand.
It is generally believed that the "entities" (for lack of a
better word) died in a tragic fire that completely gutted the building
in 1949.
I am a Pisces, and am sensitive to people's lives that I read
through the tarot. I have not, however, been "sensitive" in the
physical/astral world that other people I know (psychics) have been.
I've always wanted to develop this side of my sensitivity, but I
have not a clue as to how to go about it.
Sincerely,
Greg

| Everyone who has been there knows that Cassadega, Fla. is
the most evil place on this continent. Plants, animals
and most people can't even grow there. It is something
like an old movie called "Freaks." They even built the
highway around the town because of the *negative* and
vile vibrations. I haven't been the same since I had
a glass of water at the local restaurant. In fact, I
noticed that I have shrunk 4 inches since then. I hope
to be around long enough to see this conference prosper.

| Cassadega, Fla. is populated by warlocks, witches and
other so-called "evil" people. It is, to the best of
my slowly shrinking memory, north of Orlando, towards
Tallahassee, in the center of the state. There are
lots of Sunday newspaper articles on the horrors of the
place, complete with the mysteriously appearing "sinkholes!"
You say you lived there - well, I am impressed, as a
casual visitor, I am still haunted with nightmares,
evil feelings and frequent images of shrinking!

Virtually all of my exposure to Wiccans has been during the
time I have been here at DEC (17 months or so) and based on what
I have seen/read/heard both in these files and away from these files
(stuff I probably would never have previously noted without this
experience) I would say that you are pretty far off base.
If you have personal opinions and personal observations, please
enter them. Otherwise, as has been pointed out in the guidelines
to this conference, you would be wiser in not expressing views as
you did. Keep in mind that it isn't *what* you said, but *how*
you said it that is quite offensive here.

764.13 | I must say something! | RAINBO::R_BROWN | | Thu Jul 28 1988 01:22 | 37 |
| In reference to Entry 764.10:
I sincerely hope that your entry wasn't serious. In case it was, I
strongly suggest that you should take a little time and find out more about
the subjects you are talking about.
1. The term "warlock" has nothing to do with Wicca. It was created by the
inquisition to describe a male practitioner of witchcraft. Anyone with
knowledge of the history of the inquisition knows that their view of
witchcraft had little to do with reality. To them, the average witch
was almost inhuman -- and female. Their writings are looked upon today (even
by most real Christians) as a study in superstition and fear.
2. There were never any witches (wiccans, or any other name you want to
call them) killed in Salem. The whole Salem affair was a hysteria
started by a few teenage girls who lied about their neighbors in order
to escape the consequences of some of their "wicked" actions. These
"wicked" actions were dancing, listening to scary stories from a maid,
and having nightmares. What they started blew out of proportion when
others began using them to accuse people they had grievances with.
Wiccans weren't anywhere near Salem until this century, when the town's
history was used as a tourist trap.
There are other facts I can give, but this note would become longer than
it should be. Instead, I reiterate what I said before: if you are going to
talk about Wiccans (or Blacks, Muslims, or any other people), please make
certain you know what you are talking about. Your description of what
Wiccans are about sounds similar to what certain branches of Satanists
would like to believe about themselves. And if you knew anything about the
people you were talking about, you would know that Wicca and Satanism are
two VERY DIFFERENT religions.
I also reiterate that I hope your entry was not a serious one. If it
wasn't, please disregard mine.

| Reply to .10,
Yeah, I missed the smiley face too.
Warlock is a term only teenagers use to describe someone they consider
to be powerful. Powerful in what is debatable. Some Wiccans consider
Warlocks to be traitors. Adults generally use the term sorcerer,
which could mean anything from the tribal witch doctor all the way
up to Ceremonal Magicians. (What say you Steve?) For many even the
word sorcerer has a negative connotation. Since I'm a neutral I
don't make that judgement (every type and kind of person having
their place on the Mother).
I read that "espose'" in the tabloid. Since most folks consider yellow
journalism a form of satire, perhaps comedy, it probably serves us
(Wiccans) well.
I think the Cassadega, Fla. trip is hype. People will find a way to
feel the way they are told they are supposed to feel about a certain
locality, whether it be a city or a haunted house.
Oh, BTW, which Salem were you talking about??

Besides what has already been said - Wiccans do *NOT* worship the
devil, I think you should keep the Corporate valuing differences
policies in mind when writing. You are talking about someone else's
religion here, which you probably don't understand. All of the
things you've stated have been said about other groups (Jews,
Catholics, Quakers, others). If you had substituted one of those
now more popular groups I have no doubt that you would be given

I agree wholeheartedly with .23. As I am very new to this

file I have learnt quite alot in a short time. However, I too could
have been very easily led astray by .10's remarks. Some people
are very impressionable and maybe just maybe if I had read .10 as
the very first note I would have a preconceived notion of Wicca
etc. Even though I personally do not know anyone that practices
Wicca etc. just something inside upset me when I read the note.

their bosses expect them to meet. Moderators can't be expected to
constantly monitor this (or any other) note file.
If someone was offended by .10, they had the choice of taking the
issue up directly with the author of the note in question. Said
author would then have been obligated by the rules set forth in
1.2 to set the note hidden, until there could be some accomodation
worked out with the offended party.

I would take .10 seriously, but the part about the tabloids threw
me. It CAN'T be serious, can it? Last tabloid I read said the
moon is really the skull of a giant space alien.
As for wiccans, I'm pretty neutral toward them. I think their religion
is off-base, but they DO seem to have more respect for nature than
members of other religions. I know one Wiccan "high-priestess."
Her religion is little more than superstition as far as I am concerned,

None of you can know what a difficult week this has been for me.
I honestly thought I had put the happy face at the end of my note
that upset most everyone, I honestly thought I did. In fact, I
was sure I did, until I read all the replies, I reread my note,
and to my horror, the happy face was left off, so was my name.
I see that some of you saw through the "dark" humor, but there was
absolutely no malice intended or implied. Nevertheless, it was
crass and tasteless, and I want to apologize to all of you who
were offended or upset. I would have written this sooner, but I
was overwhelmed by the response and the nature of the responses.
I would like to leave that style of noting to those who subscribe
to SOAPBOX, so should some of you.
The position of the planets was something I had to consult to try
and explain to myself why I embarked on such a bizarre journey.
I think I found my answer. The moon was in Aquarius, mercury was
entering Leo and opposing the full moon in Aquarius. This made
a square to my mercury and venus, and a direct opposition to my
ascendant, pluto and mars. I was in essence, under a great deal
of astrological pressure. This is however not an excuse, but an
attempt to understand my outburst. Usually, I am a mild mannered
Clark Kent type of guy, you know the type, double Libra, sun and
moon conjunct in the 3rd house. I hesitate about merging onto
the freeway everyday, I just don't understand what came over me.
Again, please accept my apology for that horrible note, just as
I will try and forget the intensity of some of your more *spicy*
answers. I really hope that this puts an end to this melee. But
I somehow know that it won't. So, if it makes you feel better,
go ahead and tear my already bleeding flesh apart, pour salt into

said, "great, I'm glad something has finally been scheduled there".
She said, "By the way, Have you ever heard of Cassedega, Florida, they

I am the author of the base note and would love to discuss ghosts
at Kenyon. I have since graduated, and am again working for DEC
as a temp.
Kenyon has a long history of purported ghost stories. Most are
the result of more than a few fires and accidental deaths on campus.
Old Kenyon, a dorm, burned in 1949, killing (I think) 9. Supposedly,
when they rebuilt it, the exterior was the same, but the interior
levels were scaled down, and when you see ghosts, you only see the
waist up or the waist down, depending what level you're on! I've
never seen any ghosts in the building, and I lived in it for 3 years,
but on my side, the east side, no one died. On the west side, there
were deaths.
I talked with a class-mate of mine recently who lived on the
west side and he said that he and others have heard strange noises
and something like "Jim, look out!" when there has been no one in
the hallway. Also, the showers get turned on by itself.
I have to admit that the 3rd floor in the West Wing of Old Kenyon
_feels_ different. My ex-girlfriend, who is more experienced in
the occult, described it like someone "threw a blanket over things,
muffling the hallway." Visual muffling, instead of aural. That's
probably the best way of discribing it.
Also in Caples dorm, someone fell down the elevator shaft, and
his ghost haunts the building. Covers being pulled off sleeping
students, a tap on someone's shoulder, things like that.
In the old pool, which is now the dance studio, someone died
after attempting a dive, hitting their head on the crossbeams and
breaking their neck. One time, the swim team was having a meditation
session in the dance studio. One of swimmers smelled urine and
was so upset that the meditation was ended early. Supposedly, urine
smell is the sign of the devil. Others have seen wet footprints
*starting* from the edge of the now filled-in pool and walking toward
the door.
Like I said, I never saw or experience any of these phenomena
(except the "muffled feeling") but there were enough rumors and,
privately, others that I know have experience something on campus
to make them believe something not readily explainable was happening.
BTW: re .45 Pobox::freichels
Are you related to Mea Freichels '90, who I graduated with? Just
curious.......
