A psychic can only tell you your 'probable' or 'possible' future.
Events which may happen in the future, provided you follow a par-
ticular path (which you yourself have mapped out)...but you always
have the option of detouring and taking another path (again, which
you have previously mapped out). In summary, a psychic can tell
you what is in your future PROVIDED YOU CONTINUE ON YOUR PRESENT
PATH. This is not cast in stone and you DO have the free will to
change the outcome.

I hope you won't let something like that dictate your life. Besides
I think it's awful that any "reliable" psychic would tell someone
something like that. You have the freedom to choose your own
path; look for happiness and you'll find it.

I dont let what she said dictate my life. That one statement she
made is the only one that concerns me and that I think about.

It's a wise person who rules the stars, and a fool who's ruled by
them.
I believe this applies not only to astrology, but to just about
everything. In "Love, Medicine and Miracles", there are several
cases where a doctor would come along and say to a patient, "You
only have X amount of time to live." Sure enough, the patient dies
right on schedule. Then there are those patients who say, "No,
I'm *NOT* going to die in X amount of time - I want to live!", and
miracles have been known to happen such as tumors shrinking and
going away without any traditional medical or scientific explanation.

| It's your decision. Use the info to help you determine which
way is right for you. It's hard to accept, but what we do,
where we go is all determined by nobody but ourselves. Psychics
don't make our choices, we do.
Be careful of creating a 'self-fullfilling prophecy'. If you
don't like what you hear, change it then don't worry about it...

| Try another reading, recommended to you by someone whom you know you can trust.
It might be just the ticket to overcoming your worries about the present
situation.
And I wholeheartedly agree that reputable psychics should not make such
predictions. I learned from reading, exactly what Deb Wolbach said; readings
can point to the path which you are on at this moment, and everything you do
between now and then effects the outcome.
Good luck

Your psychic was a shmuck. I know someone in a situation very similar
to yours, except the psychic told her that one of her two kids would
die. She has one kid now, and I suspect is wary of having another
for fear of reaching the magic number. Sure, you can treat what
the psychic says as bunk (which it probably is anyway) but it is
hard to forget something unpleasant regardless of who says it.
Look, did the psychic predict her own death? If not, then why should
you believe what she has to say about someone you know?
Throw a can of worms on her grave and get on with your romance.

| A fortune teller once told my great-grandmother that she would
have just two children, a boy and girl, and no more; and amazingly
enough, she *did* have a boy and girl - and then nine more children
after that!
Amazing how some people pretend to predict what has not yet
happened, nor is the future "fixed" along one certain path, especially
by those who are intelligent enough to make their own destinies.

Look at it this way... If he makes you happy and you make him happy,
GO FOR IT!!! I know several people who had gone to Gloria James.
From what I know about her, I think she is totally irresponsible.
Also, she seemed to be very accurate about past and present things,
but her track record for the future isn't very good at all.
It is so rare to find someone that you love that also loves you.
Nuture the relationship! If it makes the two of you happy, GO FOR
IT!!!......

If what the psychic said really does come true, then I would still
stand by this statement:
"It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved
at all."
If I were given a choice of spending 1 hour with a truly loving
person even knowing that one of us were to die at the end of that
one hour, I would not for a moment hesitate to do so.
If you live each moment to the fullest without fearing 'something
in the future', then you will have no regrets about how you spent
your life.
The only thing to fear is fear itself.

I concur with the above responses. Indeed, if he asks you to marry
him, and you want to marry him, if the "prediction" bothers you, elope!
Get _past_ the "just-before-marriage" jitters. You'll discover
that you _do_ have Free Will.
Not onlyy will you have taught yourself a valuable lesson, but you'll
be happy, rto boot.
Best luck.

| I have heard about instances of GJ giving people similar
readings. For example, a friend of mine who is a psychic, told
me of a woman who came to her for a reading. The woman was extremely
upset because GJ told her that her son would drown. Laurie did a
reading and told her "keep your child away from water." Last I heard,
the boy was alive and well.
Don't worry. Be happy. :)

I can't understand why any psychic would feel the need to say that.
Especially if they wanted to stay in business very long!
I went to a psychic reader once and he told me exactly what was
on my mind. There were very few things that I couldn't explain.
It was very therapeutic though, since I had not dealt with a few
things in my life that I needed to and he thrust all those things
in my face(figuratively) so that I had to deal with them or become
a blubbering mass of jell-o. But telling someone about a death
really wouldn't be useful in most (99.9%) cases.
If you look at the sessions in the sense that they tell you something
about yourself and not about actual events then they are good.
Otherwise they can be very destructive to attitudes. Try asking
yourself questions about how you feel about what they talk about.
What are your reactions? What can you learn about yourself from
your reactions? It's really a much brighter outlook when seen in
this way.
Do not fear - and do what you know is right.

749.18 | Negative is not Positive | MARKER::AREGO | | Fri Jun 17 1988 12:14 | 19 |
| just tuned in, however; I have heard of this psychic in Hingham.
the feedback I've received from folks is that her readings are
always negative and upsetting. (She must have serious problems
herself)
Some advice: Only go to a psychic via referral from reliable, stable
people. It can be fun and enlightening if you are stuggling with
questions, etc. And, as one of the other responses indicated, you
are the one with the free will, and should use it!
Over the years I have dabbled with many readings, astrology, etc.
I've had great readings and terrible events forecasted. If the
reader was a respectable, caring psychic, and the reading seemed
troublesome, I would change course immediately and looked within.
Sometimes I'd go back several months later to find a whole different
and more positive forecast. This proves to me anyway, that one
does rule his/her own future.
Stay positive!
