Perhaps Seth is looking for another medium to speak through!

I don't remember saying anything about 'Seth notes', but I will
try to explain him. Seth is/was a 'personality' that came through
in OUIJA sessions to Jane Roberts and her husband Joseph Butts. Seth
is supposedly 'not of our own plane of existence', and yet he speaks
through Jane Roberts (a spiritual medium).
What started out as OUIJA sessions, turned out to be a string
of 'sessions' in which Seth came through and explained the nature
of reality...so to speak. Hope this helps....the books are great!

interested in this subject. Where might I find these "Seth" books
and how long has this been around? Is it well known?

Hi,
I first heard of Seth and Jane Roberts around 1978. The book
"Seth Speaks" was one of the first I read in which the philosphy of
creating your own reality was presented. It expanded my way of
thinking about myself and the world in ways that I never would
have imagined. I have a lot of respect for the work they did
and would recommend the books highly.

Had you done your "homework", you would have discovered note

there in other topics...use SEARCH to find whatever other references
there might be.

Oh, but I DID do my homework, and I DID find other Seth
material, but nothing ever went into what he was trying to say.
My only purpose in bringing this "obviously used" subject up
again, is that I would like to invite forum on his views. To
date, all that has been said has been about the author, her husband,
and other incidental info. I've been reading this notesfile for
some time, and I get the impression that everyone is on the same
wavelength, but in different directions. I get the impression that
while there are other avenues of inner exploration, there are
equally as many methods. What I would like to ask again, is
from those who have read Seth, to give me their inputs on it as
far as it's validity to them. This must be asked, if anyone is
to make a final judgement (for me, at least)...many views must
be taken into consideration, and I would like to hear those opinions.
Tha's all! When the original questions have been tossed about
accordingly, then I will probably ask for more opinions on other
topics he has raised, since I believe that they are socially
valid.

I knew it was a typo...just had to razz ya! Anyways, the best
collection of Seth material I have found to date has been the Ben
Franklin book store (across from the Worcester Library). I don't
know if that is much help, but if you live near there, that's a
good place to start. Although I still don't know what order the
books were printed..still waiting for that info (hint, hint out
there!). Hope this helps!

700.11 | Quite similar to Edgar Cayce | NEXUS::ENTLER | | Tue Apr 12 1988 11:57 | 11 |
| It has been quite sometime since I have read the Seth material.
In fact, I know there was other books that came out after I had
read what I did. I found a lot of what was mentioned in the Seth
books built upon, added to, or coincided with much of what was also
mentioned in Edgar Cayce's books. They seemed to be on about the
same wave lengths.
Like others, I found that by reading these books, it opened up
my mind and myself to become more easily able to accept things as
they are and look deeper into them for understanding.
Of course being a Gemini, I have always been able to look at
both sides of most situations.

700.12 | | CSC32::WOLBACH | | Tue Apr 12 1988 12:10 | 14 |
| The first book written by Jane Roberts was The Education of
Oversoul Seven. This book was written before she started
"channeling" Seth (if I recall, it was actually written be-
fore she was aware of Seth's existance; I believe it was
based on 'dreams' that Seth sent her, to prepare her for
his arrival.) I HIGHLY recommend this book. There is also
a sequel (The Further Education of Oversoul Seven), not sure
if this was written before or after Seth Speaks.
Jane Roberts has died.

700.13 | 'Seth' as an aspect of Jane's consciousness; | SSDEVO::ACKLEY | Aslan | Tue Apr 12 1988 12:38 | 51 |
| In "Adventures In Consciousness" Jane says she believes Seth
was an aspect of her own consciousness. He may also have some
sort of separate existence, but she clearly stated that her ego
as Jane and as Seth were both parts of one larger consciousness.
Seth's viewpoint is almost entirely 'cardinal', in that he always
emphasized being in control, choosing, deciding. He downplayed
the mutable or fixed aspects of consciousness that were more expressed
by the 'Jane' part of the total Jane Roberts personality. For
this reason, I believe the Seth personality is incomplete, representing
what would be only one portion of a completely integrated person.
Even so I found some of the Seth material interesting and even
valuable.
There is a good book, the title of which I don't remember offhand,
but it was written by Ira Progoff about the psychic Eileen Garrett.
He traces the development of the personalities of her guides, and
demonstrates quite convincingly that in this case, these so-called
spirits were actually split-off and personified portions of her
own psyche. In Eileen Garrett's case, this personality split was
deliberately encouraged during hypnotic 'medium training', while
in Jane Robert's case, the personified aspect seemed to appear
spontaneously. Since Jane herself described similarities
in "Adventures In Consciousness", I believe it is clear that 'Seth'
is not a roaming independent spirit to be tapped into by anyone with
a Ouija board, but was a manifestation of part of the total
personality complex developed in the context of Jane and Robert's
marriage.
It is interesting to note that *every* time Seth 'came through'
Jane, that her husband (and many other people) would give her
undivided attention, taking notes and listening carefully. I am
*not* saying that Seth was faked, but there was obviously a lot
of room for Jane to be unconsciously motivated to continue producing
'psychic' events. Her own theories about Seth, as I mentioned
above, seem to confirm my theory that Seth was a part of Jane, and
not a separate spirit.
The 'Seth' books are very interesting, but it has seemed to
me that other of Jane's writings are actually better than the Seth
books. I think her novels and poetry are quite good, and the
books she wrote in a more integrated state of mind have seemed to
me to be a lot more sensible than the Seth material. "Adventures
In Consciousness", is for instance, by *Jane*, not Seth.
Alan.
PS RE .11 I disagree that the 'Seth' material was similar to the
Edgar Cayce material. Edgar Cayce constantly delivered verifiable
information; medical diagnoses that were verified by medical doctors.
The Seth material, on the other hand, consists almost entirely of
take-it-or-leave-it unverifiable assertions.

re: .0 (and a few other replies)
Actually, last night (late) I entered a reply (after Carla's.)
Wouldn't you know that DMATE2 wouldn't accept it. Grrrr!! Anyway,
I wanted to express that I wasn't as "upset" as my note reflected.
I apologize now for the "accusation." Had you referred to your
research or the other note, it would have clarified the issue, but
I take responsibility for "jumping to conclusions." Sorry.
Seth for me is too "dry", although I do not take issue with
most of what he has to say. There are very many people who value
what he says, highly. It's like so many other channeled sources
of information (yes, even Lazaris) in that we can neither prove
nor disprove what the claim is concerning the source. So, as some
people are quick to note, it becomes more important to judge the
information, not the informer.

| re: .15
As the weeks go by, I've been finding more and more information
on Seth and other 'relative' personalities...it seems as though it
goes a bit farther than I originally anticipated. It also seems
as though my focus has been bit tunneled. With the current nature
of NOTES in general, it's very easy to feel 'picked on' when expressing
one's views.
Anyway, I do want it to go on record that I still 'feel' that
the information presented in these various 'personalities' are valid.
It seems to explain many things, and answer many questions. It
is only a matter of opening up the mind to these insights and theories.
After all, we only use a small portion of it, supposedly, do we
not?

| What each of you should be aware of is that what is called "Channeling"
has been around for thousands of years. From the Oracle's of Delphi
to those of Ancient Egypt. Now in the "80's" this practice takes
on the vogue appearence of something new. There is a spirit world
that is just as real as (if not more so) the physical realm we inhabit
now. It is populated by both Angelic as well as Diabolical beings.
The innocent interest from Doonesbury to the inordinaetly curious.
Involvement with such practices and practicioners will place those
at great risk. Read your Bible; the Old and New Testament says much.

I read the "Nature of Personal Reality" nearly 10 years
ago and found it very interesting; very. I couldn't get
into "Oversoul 7" though.
Seth has since been rekindled, so to speak, in my life because
of what a woman I really did't know said to me last year. I knew that the
woman's husband had died and when I saw her I expressed my
sympathy. She said she's found great peace because of the
comfort she's received from her Seth beliefs. I was shocked because
I've never met anyone who's read any of the material. To further
my shock she said she knows that I'm a believer too...hmmm
I haven't seen this woman since - but it was just so bizarre.

Sandy,
I recently saw that you can rent Seth videos at Unicorn Bookstore in
Arlington and at Horai-Son in Brookline.
Seth Speaks was my first indoctrination into alternate realities and
such back in 1976. I remember as I read it, I had to put it down every
page or so because the material freaked me out (in a good way), and
somewhere deep inside it rang true.
Anyway, good luck with the videos and the Seth material.
