692.0. "CRAZY KEET!" by USRCV1::JEFFERSONL (EPHESIANS 5:26-27) Tue Apr 05 1988 15:10

       I recently bought a parakeet, and I must say that, this is one
    strange bird. He likes to listen to the radio/tape deck; and when
    I turn the music off, he goes crazy flapping his wings. Not only
    that, he climbs up the side of the cage and hang upside down from
    the top: then he sits on his perch, and lean foward, under, and
    through the other ,perch; then, he goes crazy again flapping his
    wings, when I turn off the light. Why do parakeets act like that?

    Re .0 (Lorenzo):

    Maybe he's lonely. The music might soothe him. You might want
    to check with a bird specialist to see whether he (or she, as the
    case may be) would be better off with a companion.

    Some of the activities, though, sound just like exercising.

    Don't think there's anything paranormal about his activities, though.

    Don't worry, I don't! (smile).

     I already know, that there is nothing paranormal about this bird;
    I had already thought about getting an companion for him/her.

    Thanks for the response

    Be aware that if your bird has another bird as a companion,
    they will bond to each other and not to you. However, if
    you are not home a lot, a companion is an excellent idea.

    I had a parakeet once that would dance - even though he had another
    parakeet for a companion. He would also sing. I just got the idea
    that he liked the music...

    Our Budgie likes music too, especially certain synthesized tunes.
    Then he goes wild!
    Our parakeet is just plain crazy - all the time!
