Lately I've noticed several notes dealing with issues of emotional
pain or unhappiness. A good conference to look at for other views
on such issues is QUARK::HUMAN_RELATIONS (hit the SELECT or KP7 key
to add to your notebook). HUMAN_RELATIONS is the descendant of the
old (now banned) SEXETERA file, with a much stronger emphasis on
psychology and social relations and a decreased emphasis on the purely
sexual.
Most of the folks in HUMAN_RELATIONS are friendly and supportive. Some
will share their own emotional experiences, others (like me on rare
occasions) will get into a more intellectual debate about their pet
theories of social/sexual/family interactions. There are a few caustic
or otherwise unfriendly contributors from time to time, but not a lot.
The quality of moderation is generally very high.

680.2 | RELIGION | MEDIUM::CONNELLY | Tonight when I chase the dragon | Thu Mar 24 1988 21:16 | 14 |

The conference REX::RELIGION deals with general religious issues
that might be of interest to many DEJAVU participants. There have
been some problems of tolerance between Christian and Pagan members
of the conference in the past, and at one point the conference was
shut down for a prolonged period of time. Since the conference
reopened, it has slowly rebuilt its credibility but still does not
attract responses from many of the previous participants.
I believe that the moderator team originally consisted of all
members of the Baha'i sect, but several of the original moderators
stepped down when the conference reopened and have been replaced
by adherents of other mainstream Western religions. Please correct
me if any of the above information is wrong.

680.3 | A Note of Clarification | SCOMAN::HAKIM | | Fri Mar 25 1988 11:41 | 18 |
| RE: .2
Your info is correct. One minor correction I'd like to make is that
the Baha'i Faith is an independent religion with its own Scripture,
and Laws. It is not a sect of another religion. Since sect is defined
as; "A group of of people forming a distinct unit WITHIN A LARGER
GROUP and UNITED by COMMON BELIEFS." or; " A religious denomination."
Therefore, Sunnies are a sect of Islam, and Catholics are a sect
of Christianity. In both examples, a Sunni considers himself or
herself to be a Moslim, and a Catholic is a Christian (i.e. follower
of Christ) in the deepest sense. This definition (i.e. sect) does
not hold true about the Baha'i Faith.
I apologize for the long explanation.

Kamran Hakim

680.4 | HOLISTIC | ARCANA::CONNELLY | Hill of dreams | Fri Mar 25 1988 18:20 | 8 |

Holistic health and some other New Age-related issues are the subject of
the conference HYDRA::HOLISTIC. The emphasis is on physical health and
relief from various ailments (including through vegetarian diets, herbal
remedies, etc.), but there are also discussions of disciplines such as
yoga, Silva Mind Control, TM, etc. I can't say very much more about it
since I only can find time to read it sporadically, but there are quite
a few participants who are in both HOLISTIC and DEJAVU.

Adult Children Of Alcoholics - ACOA (or of Emotional, Physical or
Sexual Abuse as well....it's all about the same when you get to
the bottom of it all).
It's restricted, so contact MEIS::TILLSON for access.
Also a good book - "Bradshaw On: The Family", by John Bradshaw.
Highly recommend it.
