Common or Group Vision In the books: Way of the Shaman by M Harner Healing States by A Villodo and S Krippner Wizard of the Upper Amazon by F Bruce Lamb Rio Tigre and Beyond by F Bruce Lamb (to name only a few) they talk about peoples of the world using certain plant stimulants such as the vision vine and the sacred mushrooms in order to obtain a common group (tribe or warrior) view of a problem. They use these plant drugs to help a group clearly see the problems one member of the tribe is in growing crops, hunting, health problems, etc and then the grow will determine the cure or corrective measures needed to resolve the problem. I am interested in knowing if anyone in this conference has had experience in developing group visions without the use of drugs. Thanks, peace

.0 peace It is my opinion that the sweat lodge ceremony, done properly by a close group, could achieve this. As I said a couple of notes back, there's something about 'general- purpose', large group sweats that doesn't appeal to me. 'Yuppy sweats' is, I think, how John M. might call them. This is where you show up in time to enter the lodge and sweat. My idea of a sweat would be for a group to gather with a particular purpose in mind; spend an afternoon respectfully and properly preparing the lodge, stones and fire. Then join prayers in the lodge FOR ONLY that one particular purpose; praying for a common vision. I think it's possible. Jay | |||||

In his seminars on experiential shamanism Michael Harner does a type of journey called the 'spirit canoe'. In this, an entire group works together to journey together for a common purpose. Check the Interface catalog. Michael usually does some seminars through them every year. Lance |
