| Paul,
Exactly how has she been seeing her grandfather? During
meditations? In dreams? While doing regular day-to-day
activities?

I don't want to get into too much detail here, but she thought
she saw him some distance away out her window. It would be
pretty easy to put this down to eyestrain, but the resemblance
must've been very strong since she went outside to look for the
person (unsuccessfully).
In the King story, the woman sees various people that she
knew (including her husband) in mundane settings...but the
apparitions never last very long or seem visible to anyone
else.
This is clearly different from having a vision of a relative
at the moment of their death, when the spirit might be "saying
goodbye" to a loved one. Here and in the story, the person
had been dead for a long time. I was just wondering if anyone
else (besides King) had heard of this less common phenomenon,
even though there's probably a mundane explanation.

| Some cultures do indeed make this association -- but most do not.
I know of many such occurances, some of them with fair veridical
content (i.e., containing details which seem to indicate a paranormal
connection) but there doesn't seem to be any strong connection with
the experients subsequent death.
A conventional explanation for the experience is that the subconscious
is trying to bring to conscious recognition something associated
with the grandfather. It doesn't have to be terribly direct --
the subconscious is frequently subtle. A story told, a place visited,
or whatever...
A less conventional explanation has much the same consequence.
The grandfather is attempting to communicate something, and his
appearance is sufficient to communicate it.
I would suggest that your friend concentrate on the image as seen
(clothing worn or posture or whatever might be part of the message)
and just see what that reminds him/her of. Write down or sketch
anything which comes to mind, no matter how irrelevant seeming.
When finished (and not until finished) he/she should try to relate
that to their current life.

| Funny thing I found this topic, I just spent my entire Saturday
night talking with my fiancee's family about this.
There family seems to have had many supernatural experiences.
The music go's on by itself on occasions, My fiancee was unable to
sleep one night, because everytime he shut off his light, he felt
someone sit on the bed next to him, when he turned on the light
nothing was there, when he turned it off something sat down again
(this went on all night). There have been tap's on the shoulder
when no-one's home, and footsteps/soft voices when no one else is
at home. The entire family has experienced some of these, and even
a few guests - except me (sigh).
When my fiancee's brother Jeff was 7 years old, he saw his gradfather
and great grandmother - they had both died when he was very young
and therefore he never knew them.
Well, here's the story....
One morning my fiancee's mother had to take one of her son's to
school because he missed his buss. She left Jeff at home to get
himself ready for when she came back. Jeff fell back asleep on
the living room floor right after she went out the door.
Sometime later (?) he was awakened by soft slow music and looked
up to see 2 figures, which he could see through dancing in the
doorway. (an older woman in a blue lace dress, and a man in a black
suit with a white shirt and a drop of blood on the collar) They both
looked at him and smiled and kept on dancing. then Jeff got tapped
on the shoulder and didn't dare to look behind him. He crawled
across the floor and ran to the neighbors house in just his undies.
When his mother got home he came running from the neighbors - and
frantically told her the story. She got out the picture albums
and had him look to see if anyone in the album was who he had seen.
He pointed out a woman (my fiancee's mothers grandmother) but he
said the man with her was not the one he had seen today - then he
flipped the page and pointed out a man (my fiancee's mothers father
- who had killed himself[explaining the drop of blood on the suit])
My fiancee's mother then proceeded to tell Jeff that he had nothing
to worry about, that his grandparents had come to watch over him
while she was away. (she was scared tho - because she had heard
the same story as in the opening note - and he was leaving that
weekend to see his father in Florida)
Thankfully the story about his grandparents coming to take him proved
false.
Jeff says to this day he remembers this as if it were yesterday(it's
been 11 yrs) and is still nervous to be alone in the house at night.

The blue lace dress that the woman was wearing, and the black suit

I want to announce an Open House Invitation tonight for all the
dead. Come one, come all. Refreshments available. No living
guests allowed. If you are not dead, you can't come.
I have been waiting for ghosts for a long time. The closest
thing I came to a ghost was some rats in the basement and
noises in some creaky houses. I will promise much hospitality.
Oh yeah and please don't block the driveway. It is the yellow
split-level on the corner in Worcester, Ma.
See You All There

My father died last February, this past weekend my mother spoke
to a cousin of my father. This person had visited the village in
Greece where his family and my father come from. His sister lived
next door to my fathers house. She had told him that a week
before my father died she had a dream of my grandmother (father's
mother who died five years ago.). She asked my grandmother, What
are you doing here? My grandmother said waiting for Jimmy (father's
name).
Just a note My father was not ill, he died of a heart attack
complete surprise to everyone. So its not like my fathers cousin
knew he was going to die.
Any comments?
