655.0. "Dr. John Lilly's Levels of Consciousness" by NEXUS::MORGAN (Heaven - a perfectly useless state.) Sun Feb 14 1988 23:41
All of this material came from Dr. John Lilly's Book
_The_Center_of_the_Cyclone_. It has some interesting stuff I though I'd
share with the participants of this file. I don't agree with much of
it but somethings really appealed to me.
Beliefs Unlimited
In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true either is
true or becomes true within certain limits, to be found experimentally
and experientially. These limits are beliefs to be transcended.
Hidden from one's self is a covert set of beliefs that control
one's thinking, one's actions, and one's feelings.
The covert set of hidden beliefs is the limiting set of beliefs to
be transcended.
To transcend one's limiting set, one establishes and open ended set
of beliefs about the unknown.
The unknown exists in one's goals for changing one's self, in the
means of changing, in the use of others for the change, in one's
capacity to change, in one's orientation toward change, in one's
elimination of hindrances to change, in one's assimilation of the aids
to change, in one's use of the impulse to change, in the form of the
change itself, and in the substance of change and of changing.
There are unknowns in my goals toward changing. There are unknowns
in my means for changing. There are unknowns in my relations with
others in changing. There are unknown in my capacity for changing.
There are unknowns in my orientations toward changing. There are
unknowns in my assimilation of changes. There are unknowns in the form
into which changing will put me. There are unknowns in the substance
of changes that I will undergo, in my substance after changes.
My disbelief in these unknowns is a limiting belief, preventing my
transcending my limits. My disbelief in all these unknowns is a
belief, a limiting belief, preventing my transcending my limits.
By allowing, there are no limits, no limits to thinking, no limits
to feeling, no limits to movement. By allowing there are no limits.
There are no limits to thinking, no limits to thinking, no limits to
movement.
That which is not allowed is forbidden. That which is allowed,
exists. In allowing no limits, there are no limits. That which is
forbidden is no allowed. That which is not allowed is forbidden. That
which is exists is allowed. That which is allowed, exists. In
allowing no limits, there are no limits. That which is forbidden is
not allowed. That which is exists is allowed. That which is allowed,
exists. To allow no limits there are no limits. No limits allowed, no
limits exist.
In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true either is
true or becomes true. In the province of the mind there are no limits.
In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true either is
true or becomes true. There are no limits.
John Lilly likes to refer to things he has experienced in computer
like terms. His writings indicate that he thinks that there are a
multiplicity of programmers working for the big Programmer, all
programming the Cosmic Computer (universe). Now this programming is
not the kind we normally consider as programming. His term refers to
creative action that leads to more creative action, the chicken and the
egg. This creative action follows divine laws or paths of allowance.
Programming is the (Etic) way the universe works and metaprogramming is
our (emic) interpretation of those programs and a re/application of
them in other parts of our lives.
The programs of John's cosmic computer are as follows:
1. Holy Law - the limits within which we work, think, feel and
are; it is a shining program boundary around our operational space.
(The specs for the OS.)
2. Perfection - the computer doing perfect programs and
programming perfectly all being, all matter, all consciousness.
3. Holy Work - our activity, our being, the Creators, the
Programmers.
4. Freedom - doing the operations with joy within our defined
limits. We are free of being within the computer, free to do the
programming, free to be metaprogrammed by God's Will.
5. Holy Love - what we receive, is what we give as we do out
perfect thing. As we are linked, so we are loved and
love--objectively, realized, essentially, purely.
6. Omniscience - a sure transparent knowledge of the whole
transparent computer, who runs it, who runs us, the group; knowledge
of the void out of which all this came; the links with the void.
7. Sobriety - inside the operations is that state of us that is
reverence, love, staying within known limits. There is a lack of
fantasy about truth. There is knowing truth directly.
8. Equanimity - a very high state in which everything is balanced
in supreme joy, and functions are smoothly done with others; the power
of the cosmos flows through us.
9. Holy Truths - all of this plus God Himself is the truth with
certitude.
10. Veracity - I live my truths fully, truly.
11. Courage - There is no sign of doubt or fear of minus 3; I am
sustained by my strength, our strength.
12. Detachment - being one of the programmers outside of the
cosmic computer, programming it as it needs programming, objectively,
realistically, in tune with the creative flow.
13. Innocence - the innocence of childhood, accepting what is
happening with dedication and without question--being in the cosmic
group without question.
This is a summary of Dr. John Lilly's levels of consciousness as
written up in his book _The_Center_of_the_Cyclone_.
Gurdjieff States Samadhi Description
Vibration of Cons- Level
Level sciousness
--------- ---------- ------- ----------------------------------
3 +3 Dharma- Making the Ma'hdi. Classical
Megha Satori. Fusion with universal mind,
Samadhi union with God, being one of the
creators of energy from the void,
in the Ma'h center above the head.
6 +6 Sasmita- Making the Buddha. A point
nir bija source of consciousness,
energy, light and love. Point
of consciousness, astral
travel, traveling
clairaudience, traveling
clairvoyance, fusion with other
entities in time. In the Path
mental center of the head.
12 +12 Sananda Blissful state, making the
Christ, the green quatub
realization of Baraka, the
reception of divine grace,
cosmic love, cosmic energy,
heightened bodily awareness,
highest function of planetside
consciousness, being in love,
being in a positive LSD energy
state. In the Oth emotional
center in the chest.
24 +24 Vicara The level of professional
satori or of basic satori. All
the needed programs arre in the
unconscious of the biocomputer,
operating smoothly, the self is
lost in pleasurable activities
that one knows best and likes
to do. In the Kath moving
center in the lower belly.
48 +-48 The neutral biocomputer state,
the state for the absorption
and transmission of new ideas;
for the reception and
transmission of new data and
new programs; doing teaching
and learning with maximum
facilitation, neither in a
positive or negative state,
neutral, on the earth.
96 +-24 Negative state, pain, guilt,
fear. Doing what one has to do
but in a state of pain, guilt
or fear; the state of slightly
too much alcohol; of a small
amount of opium; of the first
stages of lack of sleep.
192 -12 Extremely negative body state
where one is still in the body
as in an intense migraine
attack, in which ones
consciousness is shrunk down
and inhibited and the awareness
is only in the presence of ones
pain. The pain is such that one
cannot work or do ones usual
duties. A limitation is place
upon oneself. one is isolated,
a bad inner state.
384 -6 Similar to +6 except that it is
extremely negative. A purgatory
like situation in which one is
only a point source of
consciousness and energy; fear,
pain, guilt in the extreme,
meaninglessness is prominent.
768 -3 Like +3 in that one is fused
with other entities through
the universe but these are all
bad and one's self is bad an
meaningless. This is the
quintessence of evil, the
deepest hell of which one can
conceive. This can be an
extremely high energy state
lasting eternally, though by
the planetside clock one is
there for only a few minutes.
No hope in this state. No hope
of escape from it. One is there
forever.

655.1 | How to handle new systems, new spaces | NEXUS::MORGAN | Heaven - a perfectly useless state. | Mon Feb 15 1988 00:05 | 29 |
|
Here are some interesting suggestions from Dr. John concerning
what to do when confronted with new space. This formula allows
skepticism and belief.
1. Examine whatever one can of where the new spaces are, what the
basic beliefs are to go there.
2. Take the basic beliefs of that new area as true.
3. Go into the area fully aware, in high energy, storing
everything, no matter how neutral, how ecstatic, or how painful the
experiences become.
4. Come back here, to our best of consensus realities, temporarily
shedding those basic beliefs of the new area and taking on those of the
investigator impartially dispassionately objectively examining the
recorded experiences and data.
5. Test one's current models of this consensus reality. (I think
here Lilly is referring to the reality outside of the new space.)
6. Construct a model that includes this reality and the new one in
an more inclusive succinct way. No matter how painful such revisions
of the models are be sure they include both realities.
8. Do not worship, revere, or be afraid of any person, group,
space or reality. An investigator, an explorer, has no room for such
baggage.
