I went to a Chiropractor as a kid. We had go to New Hampshire cuz they
were illegal in Mass. The things I remember are; the problem I was having
was corrected (not sure if it was related to the visits to the chiro-
practor or not) and I always left there VERY relaxed and quiet which was
not my nature (I was a hyper-active kid).
The latest in spine maintenance is DECspine (oops sorry, that's the FS in
me) actually I'm talking about spinology, which was mentioned in another
note. The difference, I believe, is that Chiropractors manipulate and
adjust the spine, while with spinology an individual is counseled and
taught how to correct mis-alignments themselves. It would seem, then,
that 'adjustments' would be done by the individual rather than having to
go back to a chiropractor regularly.
I'm wondering if there are spinologists practicing INSANE DIEGO??

| I've been very happy with my chiro. - he's helped conditions even
an orthopedic M.D. was no help with.
Many chiro's today are working with massage therapists and other
bodyworkers. It's actually a good idea to get a massage before
a chiro treatment, since your muscles and connective tissue will
be relaxed, and won't pull you out of adjustment so fast.
Some misalignments can actually be due to connective tissue problems,
and in that case, deep connectvie tissue bodywork can be very
helpful in maintaining adjustments/alignment.

Hi Jay,
I believe there are Spinologist practicing in "Insane Diego". As
for the statement Spinologist teach to to "adjust" your own spine,
that's not quite the case. Spinologist help your body to "adjust"
itself (some Chiropractors take the credit for it rather than saying
your body has the intelligence to do it with alittle help).
Spinologist believe that maintainance of your spine is the best thing
you can do for yourself. A very basic definition of Spinology is:
A philosophy and practice which seeks to be instrumental in keeping
the body free from distortions of the spinal nerve-energy so that
life potential may be more fully expressed. Spinologist do not
"adjust". Spinologist call what they do "checking the spine"
which is basically what they do. If nothing is out of place they
do nothing (though I don't know of anyone that doesn't have something
out of alignment). It's like checking the oil in your car. You don't
always need to add oil but it's a good idea to ckeck it periodically.
They apply a gentle "thrust" which helps *your body* to put the bones
of the spine back into place. Since the man I live with is a
Spinologist I have my spine checked all the time. Even if we weren't
"mates" I'd have my spine checked on a regular basis. You just feel
so wonderful when nothing is constricted and I strongly believe it
has made a change in my life (health, outlook on life, etc).
Anyway, I think I've gone on long enough. If anyone is interested
in what Spinology is all about, I can put you in contact with my
Spinologist, Joe DeCaria.
Peace,
Marie

| Just a note to keep with the "tone" of this notes file and chiro/spinal
adjustments - My personal experience with adjustments also gives
me very clear mental pictures of what issues are actually blocking
my body.
My picture of things being out of place or blocked in my physical
body is in direct correlation to what else is going on with me
emotionally and spiritually. After having gone to a very gifted
chiropractor and holistic doctor for years, I am very comfortable
and feel free to truly "look" at the blocks as they release. It
is a constant source of amazement to me at what pictures are there
waiting to be seen (without fear). I also find it very helpful
in dealing with everyday issues, as well as my spiritual quest.
Does this happen to others?

| I, too, have gone to a chiropractor for many years (ever since my
Saturn return--rules the bones, you know ;-)). Your technique sounds
quite interesting and I plan to see if I can apply it when I next
go for an adjustment. I tend to be one of those people whose bodies
let them know when their emotional or mental or spiritual lives
are out of joint. I've heard of the technique, mostly used by people
faced with life-threatening illnesses, of delving into what the
physical illness represents. It sounds like your experience at
the "stretch" (my own affectionate term for my chiro) kind of parallels
that, and more--that the release of the block brings about a strong
sense (vision, if you will) of what caused it.
Will let you know what I find out,
Marcia
