618.0. "More on dreams" by TOPDOC::SLOANE (I haven't seen your %^&*! shoggoth!) Wed Jan 06 1988 17:00

Hello. You haven't missed me, but I'm back anyway. I haven't been
following DEJAVU (and other notes files) for the past 2 or 3
months because of work and some intense issues in my personal
life, but I hope to remain at least a reader and a sometimes
contributor. I will be as skeptical as ever.

Two nights ago my father, deceased some 16 years, appeared to me in a
dream. It is hard for me to say for sure whether this was *just*
a dream, or something more. What has made these dream-appearances
*something more* in the past has been the predictions he has
revealed to me in previous dreams, every year or so.

These predictions - sometimes trivial, sometimes substantial - have
always come true in the past, and most concerned events and outcomes
I usually was not at all aware of. I could not have dredged them up
from the depths of my subconscious, despite my "rational feelings"
of cynicism and skepticism.

This last dream had a remarkable clarity. My father appeared rather
faded, and although nothing was said about it, I received the
feeling that this was the last or next to last time he would be
able to do this. He told me two things he thought would happen,
over the course of the next few months, one very sad, and one not so
sad. I do not feel comfortable in revealing them, but will let
you all know when and if things do occur, and if anyone wants to
send me a reminder every few months, that is certainly OK.

What is also remarkable is the wonderful feeling of peace and
inner harmony the dream-appearance has invoked in me. Even though
it resurrected in me memories and feelings of his and other
deaths, and his message was more sad than happy, it has left me
with an inward calm that I have not felt for months.

- -

I've been reading some of the notes of the past few months that I
missed. Cindy, I'm glad you had a chance to visit your uncle
before his death. Marie, we lost a 5-year-old boy several years
ago. Learning to live with that was the most difficult thing
we've done. I hope you are making progress. I think death is
harder on those left behind.

Speaking of death and dreams, my mother (who is dead) often appears in my
dreams. A few nights ago I had a dream where a voice told me that when
someone dies, their "spirit" inhabits the dream world of a living person's
mind. So if a person you loved dies, they can inhabit your dream world.
When you die, you and all your dream inhabitants go to someone else's dream
world. That is why characters whom you do not know or recognize can appear
in your dreams. Mind you, I don't necessarily subscribe to this, but it
is interesting, no?

I very rarely dream about people I don't know, but when
that rare happenstance occurs and I do dream about an
unfamiliar character they are always playing an extremely
significant role in my dream (sometimes more significant
    	even than my *own* role).

So true. My only experience with losing someone I love
(my dog) happened a year ago, and he still inhabits my
dreams at least once a week. I always wake up feeling
very good and happy that I saw him.

RE: 2 I have a cat that I lost 10 years ago that visits me in my
dreams, it is understood in the dream that he is visiting me via
dreams literally. Once we went to the apartment we shared (the
building has long ago been torn down), in this dream I walked into
the living room and saw myself bending over my record player putting
on a record, then the self I was watching took a deep intake of
breath, as if frightened and turned around quickly to look in my
direction. At this point I awoke. The thing that is strange about
this is that I remember the day this happened in that apt and
thought I heard someone behind me and was really scared! I turned
around to see only a very faint rush of light.

Another interesting dream event happened last night, I dreamed very
vividly that a friend was killed in an auto accident. It was so
real that I still feel as if I have lost a friend even though I
know that she is okay and have told her about the dream in hopes
that she will be okay. I am concerned though because I have dreamt
other events (my mother's death for instance) and they had this
same very vivid quality. The intensity of the feelings of dreams
is always amazing to me, they seem more "real" that awake-time sometimes.

RE: .3

Other people who have dreams that seem to come true have found that
they are not inevitable. Given that the dream was "truly" precognitive
it is quite likely that it is a warning and its consequences may
    be avoided.

618.5snow falling dream...COMICS::SHARMAMon Sep 12 1988 10:3729
There are so many topics on dreams that I was not sure where to post
my question, so, I shall ask it here as this is the latest entry.

It is, believe it or not, summer in the UK, so this dream came as
    quite a surprise.

I was feeling a little exhausted in my dream and it was time for
me to go to some theatre or some such place. So, I implicitly excused
myself from what I think was the party in my house. I got out of
the house and found it to be snowing very heavily and one guy was
trying to move his car (a white Mercedes 190, I think). I think
this guy was trying to push the car on his own with doors (at least
two of them) open and pure white snow falling very heavily.

Can someone possibly throw any light on its meaning or implication?
This only thing I can say is that the white colour esp of the snow.
There was also a cherry red 3-series BMW standing near by among
other cars, all parked in a disorganised manner!?

The weather has been reasonably sunny, so I don't know where snow
    came from.

I have been trying make a few decision in my personal life. I am
not sure if this dream is related to anything but it did leave a
    strong impression.

    Thanks for your replies.

I got my hands on a copy of a publication called "Dream Network Bulletin".
It is a very interesting bi-monthly that has articles, how-to tips, info on
experimental dream work and notices of dream related events. It's one of
those that you won't find at your local newsstand. If anyone is interested,
the address is:

    Dream Network Bulletin
    POB 1321, Dept A.
    Port Townsend, WA 98368

The subscription rate is $18.00/year.

Terry

Usual disclamer: no financial interest, don't know the folks, etc. Just a
good publication.
