575.0. "The Morning of the Magicians" by NEXUS::MORGAN (Contemplating a Wheaties Hell) Sat Nov 21 1987 18:38

Found this entertaining book in the psychology section in our public
    library.

Pauwels seems to be arguing for the existence of secret societies
and possibly a super secret secret society.

Since I'm currently on page 31 I haven't really gotten to the meat
yet. I did notice that Robert Anton Wilson patterened his newish
book _The New Inquisition_ on this book.

Any comments pro or con about this book?

A very interesting book. But I thought it went too quickly
through complex tales, each of which might deserve it's own book.
For me the greatest value of it was that later, when I found some
of the books that they had used as references, I had had an
introduction. This lead me to read _The_Spear_Of_Destiny_, by
Trevor Ravenscroft, a very intersting book on Hitler's involvment
    with the occult.
The way I remember _The_Morning_Of_The_Magicians_, was that
there was very little "meat", but many interesting references
and aside remarks. I thought the authors tried to cover too much
material in the book, but found it interesting anyway.

    Reply to .1; Alan,

Thanx Alan, that exactly what I'm looking for. Good criticism.
575.4Good but no indexesCSC32::M_BAKERWed Dec 02 1987 17:387
I have all three books in worn paperbacks. I enjoyed them quite a bit.
The one thing that frustrated me was the lack of an index. After the
first reading I badly wanted to go back and re-read the parts on specific
subjects. I had a great deal of trouble finding what I remebered
having read earlier. Now that I have sticky notes, I can try it again.
