| When I was young, and they packed me off to school
and they taught me how not to play the game.
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success (yech!)
or if they said that I was just a fool.
So to my old Headmaster, (and to anyone who cares);
before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers.
Well you can excommunicate me on my way to Sunday school
and have all the Bishops harmonize these lines.
I don't believe you: you have the whole damn thing all wrong
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
"Wind Up"

| Simple Man, Simple Dream by John David Souther
recorded by Linda Ronstadt on her "Simple Dreams" album
What if I fall in love with you
Just like normal people do
Well maybe I'd kill you, or maybe I'd be true
When I go down to get a job sometime
It seems people can read my mind
And make money disappear while they're talking sweet and kind
Well in some ways I am like a child
You never seemed to know it
And if a kind word ever crossed your mind
You never tried to show it
When people don't know what you mean
They may laugh at you and call you green
They'll say your words are stupid and your plans are only schemes
Truth is simple, but seldom ever seen
Let nothing come between.
Simple man, simple dream

Imagine, by John Lennon
imagine there's no heaven
it's easy if you try
no hell below us
above us only sky
imagine all the people
living for today....
imagine there's no countries
it isn't hard to do
nothing to kill or die for
and no religion to
imagine all the people
living life in peace....
imagine no possessions
i wonder if you can
no need for greed or hunger
a brotherhood of man
imagine all the people
sharing all the world....
you may say I'm a dreamer
but i'm not the only one
i hope someday you'll join us
and the world will be as one

| WELTANSCHUNG
The Trinity of divinity
Is a fractal of infinity,
The solitude of our seclusion
But a fragment of delusion.
Trapped in corporeal illusion
Playing with the torch of fusion
We fight and love and laugh and cry
And strive to look beyond the sky,
To nuclear-fired stars ablaze,
Massed in clouds of stellar haze
Warming rocky islets in the void
And seeds of forms 'most humanoid.
Who multiply and procreate,
More of the inanimate
In living tissue, spirit-lined
To house the universal mind.
Each creeping bit of protoplasm
Searches in it's operant spasm
To touch itself across the chasm
Communication is life's orgasm.
So these realities it seems,
Insinuate into our dreams
To fill our memories with reams
Of vague and misty elsewhere scenes.
But all that ws is ever there
And power enough for us to share
If we but see our own reflection
In each other's recollection
Of time there was when space was one
And space burst forth for time to run.
The Holy process had begun
To fashion Father, Ghost and Son.

THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL
by Linda Creed and Michael Masser, sung by Whitney Houston
"I believe that children are our future.
Teach them well and let them lead the way.
Show them all the beauty they possess inside.
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be.
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
Never found anyone who fulfilled my need
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me.
I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadow
If I fail, if I succeed, at least I'll live as I believe.
No matter what they take from me,
They can't take away my dignity,
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me.
I found the greatest love of all inside of me.
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all.
And if by chance that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love."

I am free
I am free
And I'm waiting for you to follow me.
If I told you what it takes to reach the highest high
You'd laugh and say "nothing's that simple".
But you've been told many times before,
Messiah's pointed to the door
No one had the guts to leave the temple.
I'm free
I am free!
And I'm waiting for you to follow me.

as we go down life's lonesome highway
seems the hardest thing to do
is to find a friend or two
a helping hand, someone who'll understand
but when you feel you've lost your way
there'll be someone there to say ...I'll show you
say you, say me, say it for always
that's the way it should be
say you, say me, say it together natural
Say you, say me - Lionel Ritchie
................................................................
Your eyes, look to them deeply
and you will see how deep is the love you are
If you would know every moment
the truth of your person, so noble and free
your fears would fade and be transformed
into dance and song and love you can't withhold from sharing
Go on, straight to your meadow
wait for the moon and wild geese to call to you
If you but hear an echo within you
know you are meant to be just where and who you really are
Your Eyes

................................................................
Name your price, a ticket to paradise
I can't stay here anymore
and I've looked high and low
I've been from shore to shore to shore
If there's a shortcut I'da found it
But there is no easy way around it
Light of the world shine on me, love is the answer
Shine on us all, set us free, love is the answer
Who knows why, someday we all must die
We're just homeless boys and girls,
and we are never heard
It's such a lonely, lonely world
People turn their heads and walk on by
Tell me, is it worth just another try?
Light of the world shine on me, love is the answer
Shine on us all, set us free, love is the answer
And when you feel afraid, love one another
And when you've lost your way, love one another
And when you're all alone, love one another
And when you're far from home, love one another
And when you're down and out, love one another
And when your hopes run out, love one another
And when you need a friend, love one another
And when you're near the end, love one another
We've got to love one another
Light of the world shine on me, love is the answer
Shine on us all, set us free, love is the answer
Love is the Answer

You can't go back and you can't stand still
If the thunder don't get ya
Then the lightning will
Chorus B
Won't you try just a little bit harder
Won't you try just a little bit more
Round, round, robin run around
Got to back where you belong
A little bit harder, just a little bit more
A little bit further than you've gone before

Small wheel turns by the fire and rod
Big wheel turns by the Grace of G_d
Everytime that wheel turns round
Bound to cover just a little more ground
Bound to cover just a little more ground

Witch Hunt by Rush
The night is black without a moon
The air is thick and still
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely torch lite hill
Vision distorted in the flickering light
Faces are twisted and grotesque
Silent and stern in the sweltering night
Mob moves like demons possessed
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right
confident their ways are best
They say there are strangers who threaten us
Our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness too dangerous
In our theaters and bookstore shelves
And those who know whats best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves
Quick to judge, quick to anger
But slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand

| DESPERADO performed by the Eagles
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
You've been out riding fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one, but I know that you've got your reasons
These things that are pleasing you will hurt you somehow
Don't you try the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me some fine things have been layed upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get
Desperado, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're driving you home
and freedom, oh freedom
Well that's just some people talkin
Your prisoner's walking through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the wintertime,
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day
You're losing all your highs and lows,
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
Come down from your fences, open the gate
*It may be raining, but there's a rainbow above you*
You better let somebody love you before it's too late.

| Fate took a freeway to my room.
Said too much while he stayed
And left too soon.
Bright on an evening sea
Washed in with the tide,
Deep in each others dreams where
All but dreams had died.
Wretched in your thoughts,
Gentle hate within the
Love you brought.
Words fade like flowers shadowed
There beneath your wall,
Wind cries from every angle
Dead leaves left to wait for fall.
And in my darkest hour
When I can find no light
My goals are out of sight
And nothing warms the night
I close my eyes
And with such sweet surprise
I can be anywhere,
I can be anyone.
And in my darkest hour
When I can find no light
My goals are out of sight
And nothing warms the night
I close my eyes
And with such sweet surprise
I can be anywhere,
I can be anything,
I can be anyone,
I can be anyone.

| AI GARIMASU (There is Love) by Grace Slick
I tried, you were tireless
And I love you, child that I see
And I see you trying to lean toward kindness
Now, that's what I like to see.
Oh, yeah, that's what I like to see!
I like to feel love
And I wanna see love.
Ai Garimasu, sometimes loving in the rain
Some feel like steel, some taste like candy
Ai Garimasu, the same in any language
The same in any name
Call it what you feel, call it whatever's handy
We don't have to know the name!
We don't have to have the same name!
We don't have to have any name at all.
'Cuz you gave me your number, now I know
Just exactly who to call.
Too bad you can't hear Slick sing this, she really belts it out
with *feeling*. It's on the Red Octopus album (with Play on Love,
and Miracles).

Day after day I'm more confused
Yet I look for the light in the pouring rain
You know it's a game that I hate to lose
And I'm feelin' the strain, now ain't it a shame
Wo give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Beginnin' to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
Now, I'm countin' on you to carry me through
(Repeat chorus)
And when my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue,
The guitar's coming through to soothe me.
Thanks for the joy that you're giving me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
They help me along, makin' me strong
(Repeat chorus)
Take me.
Jacob's Ladder Performed by Rush, Lyrics by Lee & Lifeson
The clouds prepare for battle
In the dark and brooding silence
Bruised and sullen stormclouds
Have the light of day obscured
Looming low and ominous
In twilight premature
Thunderheads are rumbling
In a distant overture
All at once,
The clouds are parted
Light streams down
In bright, unbroken beams.
Follow men's eyes
As they look to the skies
The shifting shafts of shining
Weave the fabric of their dreams...

| We Don't Need Another Hero by T. Britten, G. Lyle
(Are you listening, Ollie?)
Out of the ruins
Out from the wreckage
Can't make the same mistake this time
We are the children
The last generation
We are the ones they left behind
And I wonder when we are ever gonna change
Living under the fear, till nothing else remains
We don't need another hero!
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
Thunderdome
Looking for something
We can rely on
There's got to be something better out there
Love and compassion
Their day is coming
All else are castles built in the air
And I wonder when we are ever gonna change
Living under the fear till nothing else remains
All the children say-
We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond (the)
Thunderdome
So what do we do with our lives
We leave only a mark
Will our story shine like a light
or end in the dark
Give it all or nothing!
We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
Thunderdome
All the childen say
We don't need another hero
(We don't need another hero)
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
Thunderdome

Raindrops falling; winter feels so gloomy
Hear a knock upon my door
Stranger calling
Eyes that look like mine
Says "you know I've called before"
What is veiled now soon will be shown
Come walk with me through the unknown
Familiar stranger
Should I know your name?
Did we meet some time ago?
I feel uncertain; shadows whisper to me now
Sudden wind begins to blow
What is veiled now soon will be shown
Come walk with me through the unknown
Darkened doorways; strangest things can happen
Don't know who you're talkin' to
You find yourself
Lightning strikes you now
You could be lookin' back at you
What is veiled now soon will be shown
Come walk with me through the unknown
What is veiled now soon will be shown
Come walk with me through the unknwon
Familiar stranger, should I know your name?
Did we meet some time ago, are you someone I should know?
Did we meet some time ago?

| BLUE COLLAR by Bachman Turner Overdrive
Walk your street, and I'll walk mine
And should we meet, could you spare me some time?
'Cause you should see my world, meet my kind
Before you judge our minds
Blue Collar
Sleep your sleep; I'm awake and alive
I keep late hours; your 9 to 5
So I would like you to know I need the quiet hours
To create in this world of mine
Blue Collar
I'd like you to know, at 4 in the morning
Things are coming to mind
All I've seen
All I've done
Those I hope to find
I'd like to remind you, at 4 in the morning
My world is very still
The air is fresh under diamond skies
Makes me glad to be alive
Keep that beat, and I'll keep time
Your restless face is no longer mine.
I rest my feet while the world's in heat
And I wish that you could do the same
Blue Collar.

Written by Tommy Shaw, performed by Styx
*********************************************************************
<...relax...*take it easy*>
You see the world through your cynical eyes
You're a troubled young man, I can tell
You've got it all in the palm of your hand
But your hand's wet with sweat,
And your head needs a rest
And you're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're kidding yourself if you don't believe it
Why must you be such an angry young man
When your future looks quite bright to me
And how can there be such a sinister plan
That could hide such a lamb
Such a caring young man
And you're fooling yourself if you don't believe it
You're killing yourself if you don't believe it
Get up!!!
Get back on your feet!
You're the one they can't beat, and you know it
Come on!
Let's see what you've got
Just take your best shot, and don't blow it

SHARE THE LAND performed by the Guess Who
Have you been around
Have you done your share of comin' down
From different things that people do
Have you been aware, you got brothers and sisters who care
About what's gonna happen to you in a year from now
Baby I'll be there to shake your hand
Baby I'll be there to share the land
And help you give it away when we all live together
I'm talkin' about together, now
Did you pay your dues
Did you read the news
This morning when the paper landed in your yard
Do you know their names?
Can you play their games
without losin' track, and comin' down a bit too hard
Baby I'll be there to shake your hand
Baby I'll be there to share the land
And help you give it away when we all live together
Together, together
You know I'll be standin' by to help you with your worries
No more sadness, no more sorrow, no more bad times
Everyday come sunshine, everyday everybody laughin'
Everybody singin' and talkin',
Everybody walking by the river
smiling, laughing, digging each other
I'll be there...call me if you need me
Call me; call me! Call my name, I'll be runnin' to help you
PEACE TRAIN by Cat Stevens
Now I've been smiling lately thinking about the world as one
And I believe it could be someday it's going to come
'Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country
Come take me home again
Now I've been smilin' lately thinkin' about the good things to come
And I believe it could be something good has begun
Peace train, soundin' louder
Glide on the peace train
Yes peace train, holy roller
Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train
Get your bags together; go bring your good friends too
'Cause it's gettin' nearer; it soon will be with you.
Come and join the living
It's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer
Soon it will all be true.
Peace train, soundin' louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes peace train, holy roller
Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train, oh please train
Now I've been cryin' lately
Thinking about the world *as it is*
Why must we go on hating?
Why can't we live in bliss
'Cause out on the edge of darkness there rides a peace train
Peace train, take this country!
Come take me home again
Come on peace train
Yes it's the peace train!
Come on now peace train
Oh please train

| Fight the Good Fight
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
( Triumph )
The days grow shorter and the nights are getting long,
feels like we're running out of time.
Every day it seems much harder telling right from wrong ;
you've got to read between the lines.
Don't get discouraged,
don't be afraid to care,
make it through another day,
make it worth the price we pay.
The good book says its better to give than to receive,
I do my best to do my part.
Nothing in my pockets and I've nothing up my sleeves,
I keep my magic in my heart.
Keep up your spirit,
Keep up your faith baby,
I'm counting on you,
You know what you've got to do.
Fight the good fight every moment,
Every minute, every day.
Fight the good fight every moment,
It's your only way.
All your life you've been waiting for your chance,
see where you fit into the plan ?
Try the best to love your own destiny,
and give and take the best that you can.
You think that time and money can buy your Soul some rest,
You'd better think something else instead.
You're so afraid of being honest with yourself,
You'd better look inside your head.
Nothing is easy, nothing good is free, but,
I can tell you where to start.
Take a look inside your heart,
There's an answer in your heart.
Fight the good fight every moment,
Every minute, every day.
Fight the good fight every moment,
Make it worth the price we pay.
Believe every moment of your lifetime,
Every minute, every day.
Fight the good fight every moment,
Make it worth the price we pay.
if the plans were changed
you can beat us with wires
But the sun is shinin' down on me and it's here to stay.
That's why I'm tellin' you, I just want to celebrate
Another day of livin'
I just want to celebrate another day of life!
Don't let it all get you down, no no
Don't let it turn you around!
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all,
I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and a paper, and I made up my my own little sign
I said "Thank you, Lord for thinkin' 'bout me
I'm alive, and doin' fine!
Wo, sign sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery, breaking my mind
Do this don't do that
Can't you read the sign?
The song does sound like other stuff I've heard the Family Stone
Wasn't Rare Earth one of the mellower groups? Maybe I'm mistaken.
If you think of it contact me off-line and let me know if it is
have the record store order it for me.
Always On My Mind
(The way Elvis sung it)
Maybe I - didn't treat you....
Quite as good as I should have...
Maybe I - didn't love you...
Quite as often I as could have...
Little things I should have said and done...
I just never took the time....
You were always on my mind...
You were always on my mind.
Maybe I - didn't hold you...
All those lonely, lonely times...
And I guess I - never told you...
I'm so happy that you're mine...
If I made you feel...
Second best...
Girl, I'm so sorry I was blind...
You were always on my mind....
You were always on my mind.
Tell me.
Tell me that your sweet love hasn't died...
And give me...
Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied...
Satisfied...
Little things I should have said and done...
I just never took the time....
But you were always on my mind...
You were always on my mind.
| Dialogue extract from the TV show "Soap"
Scene: Corrine's baby is possessed, and the family is up in the
baby's room, praying. The priest (Corrine's husband Tim...) is
reciting the Catholic exorcism, and is lifted up and thrown out
of the window by the devil inside the baby. Jessica hangs her head
as the devil laughs, and says "it is useless for you to fight me.
This baby is mine, and you will all be mine. Give up, and come
to me!"
Jessica (who you'll remember appears to be a bit flighty, nonassertive,
and a bit dizzy), walks in front of the group and addresses the
devil.
"We will never give up. Never. There is not a man or a spirit in
this world or any other that can break my family. We've come through
too much in our lives already to give it all up to you! We've come
through sorrow, and seperation, and death, and destruction. And
we're still together. (Gathering the family around her) Because we
love each other! *And love is what holds us together*. So, if you
intend to stay, we will fight. And let me tell you, we will fight
to the end! And with God's help, you will never have us. And you
will never have this baby! Never!!! You have come to the wrong house!!"
The devil gives out a horrible cry, the darkness leaves the room,
and the last thing you hear is the cry of a healthy, normal baby.
Fade out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
( Savuka )
Copper Sun sinking low,
Scatterlings and fugitives,
Hooded eyes and weary brows,
seek refuge in the night.
They are the scatterlings of Africa,
Each uprooted one,
On the road to Phelamanga,
where the world began,
I love the scatterlings of Africa,
each and every one,
in their hearts a burning hunger,
beneath the Copper Sun.
Ancient bones from Old Uvai,
echos of the very first cry,
"Who made me here, and why ?...
beneath the Copper sun."
African Idea,
African Idea,
Make the future clear,
Make the future clear.
And we are scatterlings of Africa,
both you and I.
We are on the road to Phelamanga,
beneath a Copper sky.
And we are scatterlings of Africa,
on a journey to the stars.
Far below we leave forever,
dreams of what we were.

( Savuka )
The world is full of strange behaviour,
every man has to be his own saviour.
I know I can make it on my own if I try,
but I'm searching for a great heart to stand me by.
Underneath the African sky,
A great heart to stand me by.
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart,
I see the fire in your eyes.
I'm searching for the spirit of the great heart,
that beats my name inside of you.
Sometimes I feel that you really know me,
Sometimes there's so much that you can show me.
There's a highway of stars across the heavens,
The whispering song of the wind in the grass.
There's the rolling thunder across the Savanna.
A hope and a dream at the edge of the sky,
and your life is a story like the wind.
And your life is a story like the wind.

O, I am the eagle, I live in high country
In rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky
I am the hawk, and there's blood on my feathers
But time is still turning, they soon will be dry
And all those who see me, and all who believe in me
Share in the freedom I feel when I fly!
Come dance with the west wind and touch all the mountaintops
Sail o'er the canyons and up to the stars
And reach for the heavens, and hope for the future
And all that we can be, not what we are

On my mind constantly
In my arms in where you should be
I love you here by me, baby
You let my love fly free
I want you in my life for all time
Caught up in the rapture of love
Nothing else can compare
When I feel the magic of you
We stand side by side
Til the storms of life pass us by
Light my life, warm my heart
Say tonight will be just the start
I love you here by me, baby
You let my love fly free
I want you in my life for all time

I see myself within your eyes
And that's all I need to show me why
Everything I do
Always brings me home to you
Ever and ever...
Now I know my life has given me more than memories
Day by day

In every moment there's a reason to carry on...
Sweet love showing us a heavenly light

Sweet love showing on us every night

Now melodrama doesn't make me weep
Any more, 'cause
I haven't got time for the pain...
I haven't the need for the pain...
I haven't got room for the pain
Not since I've known you (repeat last 4 lines)
Suffering was the only thing
Made me feel I was alive
Thought that's just how much it cost
To survive in this world
Til you showed me how
How to fill my heart with love
How to open up and drink in all that white light
Pouring down from the heavens
Haven't got time for the pain
Haven't got room for the pain
I haven't the need for the pain
Not since I've known you

sometimes I feel like I am leavin' life behind
my hands are movin' faster than the movin' of my mind
thoughts and generations of my dreams are yet unborn
i hope that i will find them 'fore my movin' gets too worn
if only i could live to see the dawnin' of the Dawn
so we go on movin', trying to make this image real
straining every nerve not knowing what we really feel
straining every nerve and makin' everybody see
that what they read in the rolling stone has really come to be
and tryin' to avoid a taste of bad reality
on an early new york morning, a mirror in the hall
showed to me a face i didn't know at all
lines were drawn around a pair of eyes that opened wide
and when i looked into them i found nothin' left inside
so i walked into a little room, and whistled like a sigh
as dawnlight closed around me though my head was still in gear
thinkin' thoughts of playin' more and singing loud and clear
trying to reach a friend somewhere and make that person smile
and maybe pull myself away from that old lonesome mile
and it often comes to haunt me in the morning
all my friends keep tellin' me that it would be a shame
to break up such a grand success and tear apart a name
but all i know is what i feel whenever i'm not playing
and emptiness ain't where it's at, neither is feelin' pain
so what is gonna happen now is anybody's guess
if i can't spend my time with love, i guess i need a rest
time is getting late now and the sun is getting old
my body's getting tired of carryin' others' loads
and sunshine's waitin' for me a little further down the road

| Okay here, we go.
Sometimes I feel the spirit
Sometimes I feel so sad
Sometimes I feel so near it
Other times I hurt so bad
Some days it all feels wonderful
and some nights I want to cry
Sometimes I feel like my dreams can become real
Sometimes I just want to let them die.
Remembering and forgetting,
that's the game that we play
We drift so far we forget who we really are
Till we remember,
that love is the way,
To remember.
The light that shines inside all of us is brighter,
brighter than the sun, but sometimes we ignore it,
we are so busy trying to get things done.
Sometimes it all seems so important,
what we say and how we do.
Then sometimes I feel the silence
and I know what's really true.
Remembering and forgetting
that's the game that we play,
We drift so far we forget who we really are.
Sometimes illusions we create can seem so real
that we lose sight of the love so easily.
Sometimes we get so lost inside the pain we feel,
till we look around and see
that learning to be free is just
remembering and forgetting,
that's the game that we play,
we drift so far,
we forget who we really are,
till we remember
that love is the way,
to remember.

and your world is wrapped in darkness and

Cause all your situations

Open up your vision and see past the reasons why,
Open up your curtains, see the sun there in the sky
and know that its been shining
even through the cloudy days and
see it warm inside you
as you sing this simple phrase
There is nothing to need, hide from or fear,
I am whole and complete right now and right here
there is nothing to need, hide from or fear
I am whole and complete right now and right here,

The wars outside are raging
getting fearser every night
while ignorance and hatred
are stirring up the fight.
And minds and souls are dying
cause they know no other way
as nuclear desctruction
draws closer every day,
but the children of our planet
are asking us to cease
and use the gifts God gave us
to find the way to peace
and you know we can fulfil their prayers
before they lose their youth
when all of us together
have realised this truth
TYhere is nothing to need, hide from or fear,

The song Love is the Answer, whose lyrics appear in 545.11 was

and John Ford Coley stole nearly every nuance from the Utopia version.

Somehow the lyrics just seem to be speaking to me at this point

We Said Hello Goodbye
We said goodbye to a dear old friend,
Then we packed our bags and left.
feeling sad, is the only way
Said I'd always return the key,
A roof over our heads
gave a smile, it's the only way.
only way.
(Chorus)
Turn your head, and don't look back.
Set your sails to a new horizon.
Don't turn around, don't look down.
Ooh, There's life, across the tracks.
And you know it's really not surprizing,
It's gets better, when you get there.
Ahhh
Well it really don't matter much where you are,
'cause home is in your heart.
It's a feeling, that you wake with one day.
Some people keep running all of their life,
and still find they haven't gone too far.
They don't see, it's the feeling inside.
The feeling inside.
Ohh
(Chorus)
Turn your head, and don't look back.
Set your sails to a new horizon.
Don't turn around, don't look down.
Ooh, There's life, across the tracks.
And you know it's really not surprizing,
It's gets better, when you get there.

ALREADY GONE by the Eagles
Well I heard some people talkin' just the other day
And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf
Well let me tell you, I got some news for you
And you'll soon find out it's true
And then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself
'Cuz I'm already gone
And I'm feelin' strong
I will sing this victory song.
The letter that you wrote me made me stop and wonder why
But I guess you felt like you had to set things right
Just remember this, my girl
When you look up in the sky
You can see the stars and still not see the light.
And I'm already gone
And I'm feelin' strong
I will sing this victory song
Well I know it wasn't you who held me down
Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free
So oftentimes it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key
But me, I'm already gone
And I'm feelin' strong
I will sing this victory song.
Hoo hoo hoo, my my!
Hoo hoo hoo

"MY LOVE"
by Julio Iglesias/ Stevie Wonder
My love is warmer than a smile
My love gives to every needing child
If anyone should ask you who's my true love
tell them my true love is ever letting all their love come through
My love sees love with not a face
and lives to love thru time and space
If all of everything about my love fits to the tune of you
then you can say that you are my love too
Let my shine throughout the world
to every mountain top and steeple
Let it be felt by every soul til loves all over
Let it reach out to every heart
to every disinfranchised people
til it is present and no more is pain all over
Our love sees love's the key to peace
We'll pray to all the world wars have ceased
Should you or anyone you know enough to say they feel as we
Then let our universal song be free
Say words of love to all we see
to rich or poor for love is equal
let us lift up humanity
spread love all over
Let all it forces join as one
So to rebuke all signs of evil
through every valley, land and sea
Our love' all people

When I feel like an eagle my soul has no place on the ground.
From "A Star is Born" soundtrack
******************************************************************
As soon as you are able, well than I am willing
To make this break that we are on the brink of
My cup is on the table, my love is fillin'
Waiting here for you to take and drink of
So if you're tired of the same old story,
Turn some pages!
I'll be here when you are ready to roll with the changes!
I knew it had to happen, felt the tables turnin'
Got me through my darkest hour
I heard the thunder comin', felt the desert burnin'
Until you poured on me like a sweet sunshower
So, if you're tired of the same old story,
Oh baby turn some pages
I'll be here when you are ready to roll with the changes.
Keep on rollin', keep on rollin'.....

WOMAN IN THE MOON from the soundtrack of A Star is Born
(the Streisand/Kristofferson version).
I was warned as a child of 13
Not to act too strong
Try to look like you belong but don't push, girl
Save your time and trouble
Don't misbehave
I was raised in a "no you don't" world
Overrun with rules
Memorize your lines and move as directed
That's an age old story; everybody knows that's a worn-out song!
But you and I are changing that tune
We're learning new rhythms from the woman in the moon
Little sister, little brother
Keep on pushin'
Don't believe a word about things you've heard about
Asking too much too soon
'Cause they can hold back the tide,
But they can never hold the woman in the moon.
I believe there's a best of both worlds, mixing Old and New
Recognizing change is seldom expected
As I've long suspected,
They believe that strange is a word for wrong
Well, not in my song.
'Cause you and I are changing that tune
We're learning new rhythms from the woman in the moon
Now little sister, and little brother
Keep on pushing
Don't believe a word about things you've heard about
Asking too much too soon
'Cause they can hold back the tide,
But they can never hold the woman in the moon.

Six by six
From wall to wall.
Shutters on the windows,
No light at wall.
Damp on the floor,
You got damp on the bed.
They're trying to get you crazy,
Get you out of your head.
They feed you scraps.
And they feed you lies
To lower your defenses,
No compromise.
Nothing you can do.
The day can be long.
You're mind is working overtime
You're body's not too strong.
Hold on! Hold on.
Hold on! Hold on.
Hold on! Hold on.
They put you in a box
So you can't get hurt.
Let your spirit stay unbroken
May you not be deterred.
Hold on.
You have gambled with your own life
And you face the life alone.
While the builders of the cages
Sleep with bullets, bars and stone.
They do not see your road to freedom
That you build with flesh and bone.
They take you out,
The light burns your eyes.
To the talking room.
It's no surprise.
Loaded questions from clean-white coats.
Their eyes are all as hidden
As their hyprocratic oath.
They tell you how how to behave,
Behave as their guests.
You want to resist them,
You do your best.
They take you to your limits,
They take you beyond.
For all they are doing
there is no way to respond.
Hold on. Hold on.
They put you in a box
So you can't get hurt.
Let your spirit stay unbroken
May you not be deterred
Hold on.
You have gambled with your own life
and you face the night alone.
While the builders of the cages
sleep with bullets, bars and stone.
They do not see your road to freedom
That you build with flesh and bone.
Though you may disappear
You're not forgotten here.
And I say to you,
I will do what I can do.
You may disappear
You're not forgotten here.
And I say to you
I will do what I can do.
And I will do what I can do.
And I will do what I can do.

| ALIEN by Jefferson Starship (1980)
Are you an alien
Are you from this earth
Would you care to tell me details of birth?
Did you just emerge from thin air
Can you even tell me, are you really there?
Jet age dreams from days gone by
The circles in the forest where they danced beneath the sky
Beneath the sky
Beneath the sky
Do you know my thoughts
Can you read my mind
Would you dare to tell me what it is you find?
Go on, tell me what you find
What lies hidden in my mind
I can see through you, I can hear you too
I can feel you touch my mind!
Did they paint your face in ancient times?
Would they talk about you in the Celtic rhymes?
Can I just reach out, and pull back your shroud
Would you let me hold you
Would it be allowed?

I WANT TO SEE ANOTHER WORLD Jefferson Starship
(197 (4?) )
I want to see another world
For me and my child
I want to lay it to
Me and you
If we can, maybe we can do
I want to see another world.
I think you might see a big ship up in the sky
Like an eagle, like a stallion
It might be a burnin' silver wheel that you know you can fly
Ooh, look up to the sky
Look up through the darkness
I think it might be Love...
I dunno.
I want to see another world
For me and my child
I want to lay it to
Me and you.
If we can, maybe we can do
I wanna see another world
I wanna see another world
I wanna see another world.
Can't you try to get along with each other
Sister and brother
Father and mother
Everyone to another
Can't you try to get along with each other
Sister and brother
Father and mother
Everyone to another
Can't you try to get along with each other...

| HERE SONG, by the lovely Wilson sisters of Heart, Ann and Nancy
Today, summer day
Warm and green and gray
Wake up in the morning making love to me
Old man Lover child
How do you keep that smile?
In the rain and in pain, all the same
All the same
Smiling through the rain
You know I gotta stay
here.

LEATHER AND LACE Stevie Nicks
Is love so fragile, and our hearts so hollow
To shatter with words, impossible to follow
You're sayin' I'm fragile
I try not to be
I search only for something I can't see
I have my own life, and I am stronger than you know.
Yet I get this feeling, when you walked into my house
That you won't be walking out the door
Still I carry this feeling, when you walked into my house
That you won't be walking out the door
Lovers forever, face to face
My city or mountains, stay with me stay
I need you to love me, I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me my lace
You in the moonlight, with your sleepy eyes
Could you ever love a man like me?
And you were right, when I walked into your house
I knew I'd never want to leave
Sometimes I'm a strong man
Sometimes cold and scared
Sometimes I cry
But that time I saw you, I knew with you to light my nights
Somehow I'd get by.
Lovers forever, face to face
My city or mountains, stay with me stay
I need you to love me, I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me my lace
Take from me my lace.

| Some of Shelly's Blues by Mike Nesmith
Tell me
just one more time the reasons why you must leave
tell me once more why you're sure you don't need me
tell me again but don't think that you'll convince me
You said
about falling in love again you'd rather be dead
when someone breaks your heart you cry your eyes red
but there's nothing so hard about the life that you've led
As far as I can see there's no reason for goodbye
you're just runnin' scared and that's something I won't buy
so you lose
I won't let you go with nothing to show but more blues
all this talk about leaving is strictly bad news
so you settle down and stay with the boy that loves you
so you settle down and stay with the boy that loves you
Rock me on the Water Jackson Browne
Oh people, look around you
The signs are everywhere
You've left it for somebody other than you to be the one to care
You're lost inside your houses
There's no time to find you now
Oh your walls are burnin' and your towers are turnin'
I've gotta leave you here, and try to get down to the sea somehow
CHORUS
Rock me on the water
Sister won't you serve my fevered brow
Rock me on the water
And I'll get down to the sea somehow
The road is filled with homeless souls, every woman child and man
Who have no idea where they will go,
But they'll help you if they can.
Now everyone must have some thought
That's gonna pull them through somehow
Oh, the fires are raging hotter and hotter
But the sisters of the sun are gonna rock me on the water now
Repeat CHORUS
Oh people, look among you
It's there your hope must lie
There's a seabird above you, gliding in one place
Like Jesus in the sky
We all must do the best we can
And then hang on to that gospel cloud
When my life is over, gonna stand for the Father
but the sisters of the sun are gonna rock me on the water now
Rock me on the water, sister won't you serve my fevered brow
Oh rock me on the water, and I'll get down to the sea somehow
Rock me on the water
The wind is with me now
Oh rock me on the water
And I'll get down to the sea somehow
I gotta get down to the sea somehow

| RUNNING ON EMPTY Jackson Browne
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In '65 I was 17 and running up 101
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind
Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive
In '69 I was 21 and I called the road my own
I don't know when that road turned onto the road I'm on
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind
Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I don't know about anyone but me
If it takes all night, that'll be alright
If I can get you to smile before I leave.
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels
I look around for the friends that I used to turn to
to pull me through
Looking into their eyes I see them running too
Repeat chorus
Honey you really tempt me, you know the way you look so kind
I'd love to stick around but I'm running behind
You know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find
Running into the sun but I'm running behind
LOVE ALIVE Ann Wilson/Nancy Wilson/Roger Fisher
The sky was dark this morning
When I raised my head
I stood at the window;
Darkness was my bane.
Suddenly a sunbeam thrilled me to my weary heart
It was the prettiest thing I'd ever seen
I knew I had to keep my love, keep my love alive
Keep my love
Keep it alive
Oh, baby I want you to roll me
Hold me in your love
No more habits, promises or jive
Ever since I was a baby girl
I wanted one thing most in this world
It was to keep my love, keep my love alive
Yeah, I gotta keep my love alive
You're up there under the spotlight; your silver trophy shines
With all you got, my lord! you must get high
You need a whole lot more than money
You need more than to survive
You gotta keep your love, now keep your love alive
Keep your love, keep it alive....

The Weapon
Part II of Fear
We've got nothing to fear -- but fear itself?
Not pain or failure, not fatal tragedy?
Not the faulty units in this mad machinery?
Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry?
With an iron fist in a velvet glove
We are sheltered under the gun
In the glory game on the power train
Thy kingdom's will be done
And the things that we fear
Are a weapon to be held against us...
He's not afraid of your judgement
He knows of horrors worse than your Hell
He's a little bit afraid of dying --
But he's a lot more afraid of your lying
And the things that he fears
Are a weapon to be held against him...
Can any part of life -- be larger than life?
Even love must be limited by time
And those who push us down that they
might climb --
Is any killer worth more than his crime?
Like a steely blade in a silken sheath
We don't see what they're made of
They shout about love, but when push
comes to shove
They live for the things they're afraid of
And the knowledge that they fear
Is a weapon to be used against them...

Grand Designs
A to B --
Different degrees...
So much style without substance
So much stuff without style
It's hard to recognize the real thing
It comes along once in a while
Like a rare and precious metal
Beneath a ton of rock
It takes some time and trouble
To separate from the stock
You sometimes have to listen to
A lot of useless talk
Shapes and forms
Against the norms --
Against the run of the mill
Swimming against the stream
Life in two dimensions
Is a mass production scheme
So much poison in power
The principles get left out
So much mind on the matter
The spirit gets forgotten about
Like a righteous inspiration
Overlooked in haste
Like a teardrop in the ocean
A diamond in the waste
Some world-views are spacious --
And some are merely spaced
Against the run of the mill
Static as it seems
We break the surface tension
With our wild kinetic dreams
Curves and lines --
Of grand designs...

Losing It
The dancer slows her frantic pace
In pain and desperation,
Her aching limbs and downcast face
Aglow with perspiration...
Stiff as wire, her lungs on fire,
With just the briefest pause --
Then flooding through her memory,
The echoes of old applause.
She limps across the floor
And closes her bedroom door...
The writer stares with glassy eyes --
Defies the empty page,
His beard is white, his face is lined
And streaked with tears of rage.
Thirty years ago, how the words would flow
With passion and precision,
But now his mind is dark and dulled
By sickness and indecision.
And he stares out the kitchen door
Where the sun will shine no more...
Some are born to move the world --
To live their fantasies
But most of us just dream about
the things we'd like to be
Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
For you -- the blind who once could see --
The bell tolls for thee...

To slay with pen or sword
I grow weary of the battle
And the storm I walk toward
When all around is madness
And there's no safe port in view
I long to turn my path homeward
To stop awhile with you
When life becomes as barren
And as cold as winter skies
There's a beacon in the darkness
In a distant pair of eyes
In vain to search for order
In vain to search for truth
But these things can still be given
Your love has shown me proof

| Mission
Hold your fire --
Keep it burning bright
Hold the flame
'Till the dream ignites --
A spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission
I hear their passionate music
Read the words
That touch my heart
I gaze at their feverish pictures
The secrets that set them apart
When I feel the powerful visions
Their fire has made them alive
I wish I had that instinct --
I wish I had that drive
Spirits fly on dangerous missions
Imaginations on fire
Focused high on soaring ambitions
Consumed in a single desire
In the grip of
A nameless possession --
A slave to the drive of obsession --
A spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission...
I watch their images flicker
Bringing light to a lifeless screen
I walk through
Their beautiful buildings
And I wish I had their dreams
But dreams don't need
To have motion
To keep their spark alive
Obsession has to have action --
Pride turns on the drive
It's cold comfort
To the ones without it
To know they struggled --
How they suffered about it
If their lives were
Exotic and strange
They would likely have
Gladly exchanged them
For something a little more plain
Maybe something a little more sane
We each pay a fabulous price
For our visions of paradise
But a spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission...

| The Finer Things
Steve Winwood
While there is time,
Let's go out and feel everything,
If you hold me,
I will let you into my dream.
For time is a river rolling into nowhere,
We must live while we can
And we'll drink our cup of laughter.
CHORUS
** The finer things keep shining through
The way my soul gets lost in you.
The finer things I feel in me
** The golden dance life could be.
Oh I've been sad
And have walked better streets alone,
And come morning
There's a good wind to blow me home.
So time is a river blowing into nowhere,
I will live while I can,
I will have my ever after.
** chorus **
We go so fast, why don't we make it last,
Life is glowing inside you and me.
Please take my hand, here where I stand.
Won't you come out and dance with me?
Come see, with me, come see.
And lovers try
'Til they get they best of night
and come morning
They are tangled in the light.
So time be a river rolling into nowhere.
They love where they can
and they think about the night so swift.

bows and flows of angel hair
and ice cream castles in the air
and feather canyons everywhere
i've looked at clouds that way
but now they only block the sun
they rain and snow on everyone
so many things i would have done
but clouds got in my way
i've looked at clouds from both sides now
from up and down, and still somehow
it's clouds' illusions i recall
i really don't know clouds at all
moons and junes and ferris wheels
the dizzy dancing way you feel
as every fairy tale comes real
i've looked at love that way
but now it's just another show
you leave 'em laughing when you go
and if you care, don't let them know
don't give yourself away
i've looked at love from both sides now
from give and take, and still somehow
it's love's illusions i recall
i really don't know love at all.
tears and fears and feeling proud
to say "i love you", right out loud
dreams and schemes and circus clowns
i've looked at life that way
but now old friends are acting strange
they shake their heads, they say i've changed
but something's lost and something's gained
in living every day.
i've looked at life from both sides now
from win and lose, and still somehow
it's life's illusions i recall
i really don't know life at all

| WINDS OF CHANGE Jefferson Starship
Walk softly through the desert sand; careful where you tread
Underfoot are the visions lost, sleeping like they're dead
Hang on - wind starting to howl
The beast is on the prowl
can you hear his strange cry
winds of change are blowing by.
Mountains crumble and cities fall, don't come to an end
Let's get in on the desert floor, waiting for the wind
Hang on - wind starting to howl
The beast is on the prowl
can you hear his strange cry
winds of change are blowing by
You've got your life planned carefully, but you left out one detail
The hidden hand deals just one round, and the winds of change prevail.
Hang on - it's starting again
there's no shelter from the wind
like a fire from the sky
Winds of Change are blowing by!

| MY MAN written by Bernie Leadon, performed by the Eagles
Tell me the truth, how do you feel
Like you're rolling so fast that you're spinning your wheels
Don't feel too bad, you're not all alone
We're all trying to get along.
With everybody else trying to go their way,
You're bound to get tripped, and what can you say?
Just go along till they turn out the lights
There's nothing you can do to fight it
No man's got it made 'till he's far beyond the pain
And we who must remain go on living just the same.
I once knew a man, a very talented guy
He'd sing to the people, and people would cry
You knew that his song came from deep down inside
You could hear it in his voice, and see it in his eyes
So he'd travel along, touch your heart and then be gone
Like a flower, he bloomed till that old
Hickory wind called him home
My man's got it made; he's gone far beyond the pain
And we who must remain go on living just the same
We who must remain go on laughing just the same.

| Uncle John's Band by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter 8/74
Well the first days are the hardest days,don't you worry any more,
cause when life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door.
Think this through with me, let me know your mind.
Woh-oh, what I want to know, is are you kind?
It's a buck dancer's choice my friend; better take my advice.
You know all the rules by now and the fire from the ice.
Will you come with me, won't you come with me?
Woh-oh, what I want to know, will you come with me?
Goddamn, well I declare, have you seen the like?
Their walls are built of cannonballs, their motto is "Don't tread on me."
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide,
come with me, or go alone, he's come to take his children home.
It's the same story the crow told me; it's the only one he know.
Like the morning sun you come and like the wind you go.
Ain't no time to hate, barely time to wait,
Woh-oh, what I want to know, where does the time go?
I live in a silver mine and I call it Beggar's Tomb;
I got me a violin and I beg you call the tune,
anybody's choice, I can hear your voice.
Woh-oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?
Come hear Uncle John's Band by the riverside,
Got some things to talk about, here beside the risin' tide.
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide,
Come on along, or go alone, he's come to take his children home.
Woh-oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?

| Rhymes and Reasons John Denver
So you speak to me of sadness, and the coming of the Winter
The fear that is within you now, it seems to never end
And the dreams that have escaped you,
And the hope that you've forgotten
You tell me that you need me now
You want to be my friend
And you wonder where we're going
Where's the rhyme,
Where's the reason
It is you who cannot accept
It is here we must begin
To seek the wisdom of the children
And the graceful way of flowers in the wind
For the children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers
Their laughter and their loveliness could clear a cloudy day
Like the music of the mountains, and the colors of the rainbow
They're a promise of the future, and a blessing for today
Though the cities start to crumble, and the towers fall around us
The sun is slowly fading now, and it's colder than the sea
It is written from the desert to the mountains they shall lead us
By the hand and by the heart, they will comfort you and me
In their innocence and trusting, they will teach us to be free
For the children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers
Their laughter and their loveliness could clear a cloudy day
And the song that I am singing is a prayer to my believers
Come and stand beside us; we can find a better way.

MY LAW- TIEME RANAPIRI
----------------------
THE sun may be clouded, yet ever the sun
Will sweep on its course till the Cycle is run.
And when into chaos the system is hurled
Again shall the Builder reshape a new world,
YOUR path may be clouded,uncertain your goal:
Move on - for your orbit is fixed to your soul.
And though it may lead into darkness of night
The torch of the Builder shall give it new light.
YOU were, You will be! Know this while you are:
Your spirit has travelled both long and afar.
It came from the Source, to the Source it returns-
The Spark which was lighted eternally burns.
IT slept in a jewel. It lept in a wave.
It roamed in the forest. It rose from the grave.
It took on strange garbs for long eons of years
And now in the soul of yourself It appears.
FROM body to body your spirit speeds on
It seeks a new form when the old one has gone
And the form that it finds is the fabric you wrought
On the loom of the Mind from the fibre of Thought.
As dew is drawn upwards, in rain to descend
Your thoughts drift away and in Destiny blend.
You cannot escape them for petty or great,
Or evil or noble, they fashion your Fate.
SOMEWHERE on some planet, sometime and somehow
Your life will reflect your thoughts of your Now.
My Law is unerring, no blood can atone-
The structure you built you will live in - alone.
From cycle to cycle, through time and through space
Your lives with your longings will ever keep pace
And all that you ask for, and all you desire
Must come at your bidding, as flame out of fire.
ONCE list' to that Voice and all tumult is done-
Your life is the Life of the Infinite One.
In the hurrying race you are conscious of pause
With love for the purpose, and love for the Cause.
YOU are your own Devil, you are your own God
You fashioned the paths your footsteps have trod.
And no one can save you from Error or Sin
Until you have hark'd to the Spirit within
Attributed to a Maori.

| Peaceful, Easy Feeling written and performed by the Eagles
I like the way your sparkling earrings lay
against your skin so brown
and I want to sleep with you in the desert tonite
with a billion stars all around
'cuz I got a peaceful, easy feeling
and I know you won't let me down
'cuz I'm already standing on the ground.
and I found out a long time ago
what a woman can do to your soul
aw, but she can't take you anyway
you don't already know how to go
and I got a peaceful, easy feeling
and I know you won't let me down
'cuz I'm already standing on the ground.
I get this feeling I may know you
as a lover and a friend
but this voice keeps whispering in my other ear
tells me I may never see you again
but I got peaceful, easy feeling
and I know you won't let me down
'cuz I'm already standing on the ground.

| Live Or Die
She brushes her hair from across her face,
Denies the pain that has left its trace
On a chorus girl in a street ballet.
The dance is sweet, but she never sees the light of day.
And it's killing me, but I just won't give up on her now.
I never had a dream so real, that told me more about the way I feel.
Hold me, 'cause I'm going down.
I'll meet my angel on the edge of town.
If I live or die.
The road is long and its hard enough.
It don't make a difference if you're out of love
If you live or die.
She kneels in church trying to find the light
By the midnight oil burning every night.
And if the world is cold, its the same old line,
Wasting the years like a criminal without a crime.
And its killing me, but I just won't give up on her now.
I never new it hurt so bad, missing a girl that I never had.
I don't need you watching over me.
I've looked up from the bottom of a broken heart,
And my tears have set me free.
But tonight's the night I don't want to cry alone.

545.91 | The rose, by any other name... | MISERY::WARD_FR | Going HOME--as an Adventurer | Fri Nov 02 1990 14:13 | 53 |
| I don't normally pay much attention to lyrics (and/or I can't
seem to understand them) but due to Lazaris using the following in
workshops now for about a year (usually AFTER the Saturday meditation)
that I've started listening to the words. They are remarkable.

THE ROSE--sung by Bette Midler
Some say love it is a river,
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love it is a razor,
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love it is a hunger,
an endless, aching need.
I say love,
it is a flower,
and you,
its only seed.
It's the heart,
afraid of breaking,
that never,
learns to dance.
it's the dream,
afraid of waking,
that never takes the chance.
It's the one,
who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give.
And the soul,
afraid of dying,
that never learns to live.
When the night
has been too lonely,
and the road
has been too long,
and you think
that love is only
for the lucky
and the strong,
just remember
in the winter
far beneath the bitter snow,
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose.

| Hi Frederick,
How does Lazaris use The Rose? Do they play the song in the background or
does he actually recite the words? Since it has been a long time favorite
of mine, I'm curious.

| re: .92 (Ro-se-y)
A part of your name is very evocative...;-)
Actually, after doing the meditation (which is anywhere from
45-60 minutes long) and we're all sitting there in the semi-dark,
many of us having cried hard or been heavily into our emotions,
Lazaris, having "counted us out" of meditation, has us blow our
noses (those who have to) and then close our eyes and then plays it,
without comments of any kind. It has a powerful affect in that
atmosphere. Just listening to the tape this morning, while I
wrote down the lyrics, brought tears to my eyes.

| Faeire Song
Written by Amy Frandon and Leslie Ritter (of the Interspecies
Connection, on their album Amy & Leslie)
The rocks are speaking, the full moon is high
The trees are just dancing delight
The soft-scented wind smells like nectar so sweet
I'm home in a warm summer night
My fingers are tingling from the earth down below
Little spirits dance free on the lawn
This rich, dark night is alive on its own
And rocks me until the dawn
The night time is filled with the other side
It's the gypsy who brings us the dreams
Its warm, sweet breath can lead you away
For all is not as it seems
So into the darkeness, I'll melt right away
With the faeries, the night owls, and trees
I was born of a dark summer night
And I come into light on its breeze

Don't go changing
to try and please me
you never let me down before
And don't imagine
you're too familiar
and I don't see you anymore
Don't go tryin'
some new fashion
don't change the color of your hair
You always have my
unspoken passion
though I might not seem to care
I said I love you
and that's forever
and this I promise from the heart
I couldn't love you any better
I love you just the way you are
I need to know that
you will always be
the same old someone that I knew
What will it take till you believe
in me, the way that I believe in you
I said I love you
and that's forever
and this I promise from the heart
I couldn't love you any better
I love you just the way you are

Dedicated to someone I love so dearly.
I love you for the happiness
you bring me each day.
For all your words of kindness
and your ever-thoughtful way.
I love you for the tenderness--
the sweetness in your heart.
The special way you always say
"I will miss you" when we part.
I love you for your patience
when I do something wrong.
And your happy laughter that lingers
that lingers like a song........
I love you for the gentle way
you cheer me when I am sad.
And for many little things
you do to make me glad.
I love you for the faith and strength
that you have given me.
And for the lovely things in life
that you have helped me to see.
I love you for your love for me,
so constant and so true.
But most of all I love you , Dear,
just because you are you.

Love is an invitation.
I simply enjoy to be with you;
I enjoy to share my heart with you.
There is nothing to be achieved through it.
Just the sharing itself is my reward.
I am an invitation for all those who are
seeking, searching, and have a deep longing
in their hearts to find their home.
I am an answer to the question...
that is more a quest than a question,
more a thirst than a verbal, mental inquiry,
more a thirst that one feels
in every cell and fibre of his being.
I am a reminder, a remembrance of the lost home.

| Two wonderful love songs from Sylvia Nilsson, SUBUD Stockholm
LOVE
When we love we tend to worry about the ones we love,
but should we?
That will only put a hindrance in their way.
If we really love then we would never worry, nor would we.
We would leave it all to God, and pray,
And so in order to grow we must love every one and let them go,
just love to set them free, that's the only way, that we,
can help each other along, love and leave each other to get
strong, just leave each other in God's care which is always,
always there.
LOVE IS LIKE MUSIC
Love is like music, once it starts it grows and grows
Love is like a wind it must go on, it glows and glows
If you love you are rich indeed, you can't go wrong
If love is your, all that you need, will come along
It's only love that you can give and give and give
and still have more and more as long as you may live
Love is a gem that shines and sparkles inside you
and like a gem it must be real it must be true
It's only love you can give and give and give
and still have more and more as long as you may live
Love is a rose that grows inside us all from birth
love is the greatest gift from God to man on earth

545.102 | The Long and Winding Road | TNPUBS::STEINHART | Pixillated | Tue Jun 25 1991 10:45 | 40 |
| From the Beatle's Long and Winding Road
reprinted without permission
apologies for gaps in my remembrance
The long and winding road
that leads to your door
I've walked this road
so many times before. . .
Don't leave me standing here
lead me to your door.
The wild and windy night
that the rain blew away
has left a pool of tears
waiting for the day.
Don't leave me standing here,
lead me to your door.
I heard the most moving performance of this at a Paul Winter Consort
performance for winter solstice at St. John the Divine Cathedral in New
York. (which is a MUST see for spiritual seekers) The song was sung
unaccompanied by a woman with a gorgeous voice. The longing, sadness,
and hope rang out in the cathedral. It perfectly expressed the winter
solstice - a time of longing for the sun to return, a time of renewing
close relationships against the winter chill.
About St. John the Divine: this cathedral is being built by New York
youth using medieval stone-cutting techniques, under training from
European masters. Inside and out, there are wonderful sculptures
including a cast-iron fountain that is very magical. There is a huge
natural crystal in one alcove that is lit from beneath. Several
alcoves are dedicated to the natural environment.
The Paul Winter Consort performs regularly at St. John, which they
consider their home base. St. John is on the Upper West Side of
Manhattan. This is an Episcopal church.

| Waterfall
Sometimes it takes a rainy day
Just to let you know
Everything's gonna be all right, all right.
I've been dreaming in the sun
Won't you wake me up someone
I need a little peace of mind.
Wake me from this dream that I have
Dreamed so many times
I need a little peace of mind.
Oh I need a little peace of mind.
When you open up your heart to the living
All things come spilling in on you
And you're flowing like a river
The Changer and the Changed
You've got to spill some over
Spill some over, spill some over, over all
Filling up and spilling over, it's an endless waterfall
Filling up and spilling over, over all.
Filling up and spilling over it's an endless waterfall
Filling up and spilling over, over all.
Like the rain falling on the ground
Like the rain falling all around
Sometimes it takes a rainy day
Just to let you know
Everything's gonna be all right, all right
(I know, I know, I know all right)
Filling up and spilling over it's an endless waterfall
Filling up and spilling over, over all
Filling up and spilling over it's an endless waterfall
Filling up and spilling over all.

LEAN ON ME...
Sometimes in our lives
we all have pain, we all have sorry.
But if we are wise
we know that there's always tomorrow.
LEAN ON ME
WHEN YOU'RE NOT STRONG
AND I'LL BE YOUR FRIEND,
I'LL HELP YOU CARRY ON.
FOR, IT WON'T BE LONG
'TIL I'M GONNA NEED
SOMEBODY TO LEAN ON.
Please, swallow your pride
if there are things you need to borrow.
For no one can fill
those of your needs that you don't let show.

by Extreme II More than words
Saying 'I love you' is not the words I want to hear from you
Its not that I don't want you, not to say
But if you only knew - how easy it would be to show me how you feel
more than words is all you have to do to make it real
Than you wouldn't have to say that you love me - I'd already know
What would you do? if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel - that your love for me is real
What would you say? if I took those words away
than you couldn't make things new - just by saying 'I love you'
More than words
more than words
now that I have tried to talk to you and make you understand
all you have to do is close your eyes and just reach out your hands
and touch me, hold me close; don't ever let me go
more than words, is all I ever needed you to show
than you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cause I'd already know
